What specification does the external power supply / wall wart need to meet? USB-C power supplies have a wide variety of current and voltage capabilities (e.g. 5V, 9V, 15V, and any number of amps). From what I've read, they haven't even bothered to put this in the manual.
I'd want to use the HDMI input, so I'd need to supply power. Can it be 5V USB, like an old iPad charger? If so, how many amps does it need? Have you tried it? If so, what was the power supply / phone charger you used? Did it have USB A socket or a USB-C, and how many amps does it say on it?
