I cover most of my hook with power bait but always leave the lower hook & barb exposed. I know we all do things differently but this works well for me. Beautiful trout, great adventures!

Going Ice fishing for first time tomorrow at a lake in idaho that has common 24” inch rainbows and Tigers. Super excited hopefully we have luck and the fish are on!

I'm surprised you don't have a auger with a drill attachment. Simple design and they work well. I made one out of ready rod but you can buy then also. Look like a fun time out on some sketchy ice. One thing you might want to invest in is some Ice Safety Picks that go around your neck in case you break through and you can pick your way back onto solid ice.
Had the same issue that you're having. Rainbow trout especially stock trout will swim by and nail the bait quick just tasted. If they like it they'll spin back around and swallow it
Great video as usual! The reason your fish isn't as crispy as it should be is because you over crowded the oil. Always do fish in batches so the oil stays hot...your cooking has come a long way though!!
I think maybe when they can't find bugs, they see snails moving slowly and go for them. I've caught some with tiny pine cones - my guess is the fall from a tree and the trout attacked them so their buddies didn't get them first. I've caught some with 6 or 7 inch sinko type worms in their belly. Those trout were doomed to die anyway since they would starve
Stocked trout "thinking" - try catching a wild on corn or powerbait...trout that have never been hatchery fed. But nice 'bows - good for the freezer..and eventually the tummy
Not to be a Debbie downer but, man, when your done drilling holes, put cover back on those auger blades! Dull or not , ruin your outing real quick! Especially you using it for rod prop! Obviously speaking from experience here! 12 miles back in on sleds , right through insulated rubber boot and hit artery. Great video!
