  • Every now and then, some asks me why I watch Sister Wives. I don't seem to have much in common with the Browns, and yet, here I am - still watching and talking about the show! Well, the psychology studies suggest that I watch Sister Wives because it relates to some dreams I have for my own life! Do you agree?

I started for the curiosity. I stayed for the vengeance.

I started watching out of curiosity. I was hoping to see a big loving family “making it work”. I stopped for awhile after Kody divorced Meri and married Robyn. I had clocked her from the start as being manipulative and figured she was going to divide the family. Kody started getting angry, taking things out on the OG13 kids and OG3 wives. I stopped watching for a bit. Then, started again when there was talk of Christine possibly leaving. Vengeance! Now the ultimate tragedy has happened and I’m just plain sad 😢 i don’t know that I can watch one more episode of that show. Thank you for this video and explanation. I always love hearing your take on things! Have a great week😊 Hugs! 💖🌸

You have the sweetest affect and it's a pleasure to watch your videos! I started watching Sister Wives from day one. Was curious, and i felt it would be interesting and so different. Kept watching because I grew to care about the OG women and kids, still do. My heart has ached for them since the tragedy 💔. 🙏

Candice does have the sweetest affect. Originally I didn't want to like her because she reminded me of a person who hurt me. However quickly I noticed just because Candice looked like the individual and has a gentle voice like the specific individual, her disposition and openess was far more authentic .... she won me over

I started watching out of curiosity, during the pandemic. After catching up, on earlier episodes, I was so appalled by Kooter and Snobyn Sobyn Rob’em, I was going to stop watching. Then I heard rumor Christine was leaving Kooter. So I kept watching, out of vengeance, to see Kooter get his smackdown.

I started out of curiosity, and quickly lost interest. I told my daughter in law "the only person that guy is in love with is himself."
It was boring. Meri was crying all the time, Christine was losing her mind, Janelle kept gaining weight, and I stopped watching years ago. When I heard they were breaking up, I started watching again. Went back and watched old episodes to watch the unravelling. I was back for the vengeance.
Kody was scaring the heck out of me, I figured he had the makings of a family annihilator. So I guess it's a relief that only one of the kids is now dead, instead of all of them. But I will not be able to watch it any more, I'm done

For me it definitely started with family--I had two tweens at home, and I enjoyed seeing how the family handled the older kids' attitudes. Over the years it morphed into not being able to look away from a train wreck and cheering on the heroes while booing the villains. (I usually watch reality TV to feel good about my own life and relationships in comparison, but that was not the case with this show--not for several years, anyway.)

5:00 Ha😂 I guess I started watching out of “vengeance.” I never watched until I saw a commercial regarding Christine leaving. I saw trailers about the show, but I didn’t want to watch a show about a guy having a harem of obedient women.
Yes, I wanted to see them leave. I’ve watched the whole series now, and most of it was quite fake and boring up to season 14.

Early reality TV was often competition-oriented. I started with Project Runway, and my husband got hooked too. We were super curious, as we would NEVER encounter a fashion designer, nor did we give any thought to fashion (nerds). It was so fun to have a glimpse into something so far outside of our lived experience. Today’s reality TV often focuses on the worst of human behavior (housewives, 90 day, etc) and these shows cannot hold my attention. Religious extremism, like polygamy, is driven by curiosity until it falls off the cliff with screaming mentally ill folk. Full on crazies (seeking sister/brother) hold no intrigue at all because of the utter stupidity of it all.

I started watching because I had watched the HBO series Big Love. I stopped watching when Kody divorced Meri to marry Robyn. I watched last season for the train wreck. After what happened to Garrison, I regret watching any of it.

I watched for all 3 reasons.
I’d say fighting for the underdog rather than vengeance.
Curiosity wondering how open they were going to be & what polygamy looks like.
Family goes hand in hand with curiosity because I wanted to know about how they parented all of the kids & how it differed from one mom to another.

I started Cause I loved the idea of everyone So deeply committed to their family. As a single mom, for so long I felt I was begging for a traditional family (I’ve since realized my family just does not fit the bill of traditional family But we r a family). I am staying for vengeance:) rooting for the redemption of Janelle, Merri & Christine

Curiosity to start. Lost interest around the time they began building their Vegas houses. I honestly thought that it was a train wreck waiting to happen. I always figured one wife would eventually leave Kody, but I did’t care to watch it anymore. The catfishing incident caught my interest in the news, but again, I didn’t watch. It wasn’t until I heard Christine left Kody. I honestly was shocked that it was her. I watched Season 17 and I went back to rewatch seasons 1-16 concurrently. Hindsight shows that it was not so surprising that she was the first to go. I watched Season 18. However, after Garrison’s passing, I don’t think I can stomach watching it anymore. I feel so bad for each and every one of the Brown children to have their problems hashed out on reality tv. I am looking at reality tv with children involved far more differently now.

I started watching in 2022 when i kept seeing previews of season 17 which imo was the most exciting season so originally it was curiousity wanting to know what all the hubub was about, so i went back and watched season 1-17 and got obsessed, i couldnt stand robyn and i really wanted to see the OG3 win

I am so glad I found your channel. You have such a smart and kind approach to discussing these shows. Many of the Housewife shows started out with the women knowing each other and then gradually, new cast members joined, there was more drinking and outrageous behavior. I have not watched that franchise since 2021. Sister Wives was a curiosity for me and as the underlying hostilities surfaced, I wanted to stop watching and didn't. After the recent suicide of Garrison Brown, I will no longer be watching; Kody's behavior towards those boys was disgraceful.

I started watching out of curiosity. The family’s original goal was to normalize polygamy and was pushing to make it legal. I liked when they had big family events with the children. Then I was watching it for a study in personalities. Curious to see how people rationalized. But the show changed over the years. How different their lives would have turned out if they stuck to 3 wives and stopped moving! But face it, Kody wasn’t experiencing marital bliss and wanted that fourth wife. I kept watching perhaps for vindication- seeing the 3 OG wives gain their independence… which wrecked their original theory of normalizing polygamy with one big happy family. I didn’t think the show would survive COVID with them self-filming and all Kody’s rules. Now I’m hoping for closure… they wrap up the series, and hopefully Meri and Janelle get their investment back out of Coyote pass and the family goes on their merry ways. But either way their recent tragedy, I don’t see much merry going on.
I don’t watch much other reality TV. I still like Project Runway for the creativity. But the crazy dating and seeking sister wives shows are too bizarre and out of touch with everyday life for me.

I started out of curiosity, but I’ve always been afraid of Kody. There’s something about his eyes, I can’t explain it, but as someone who has been around toxic people, he looks like that. I continued to watch because I was worried if everyone was okay, not like I could actually help that.

I watch for all three reason’s. My great grandfather was the last in a long line of polygamist (Smith family. Yes that one). My grandfather and his siblings suffered greatly. My grandfather stopped being Mormon and became a nonfunctional alcoholic. I don’t know what practicing polygamy was like for him. Family, vengeance and curiosity.

I remember this study your speaking of. I remember my art therapy instructor asked me to think of vengeance in terms of the etymology of the word ... as u mentioned calling someone out for bad behaviour feels vindicating. I was drawn to the show bc I was down to the sense of community and solidarity the family provides. So I think family. I am also the prime target for a cult, minus I am no longer fertile ...

I relate to the vengence comment when i found out about the Josh Duggars crimes. I felt like it was obvious it going to go that way. Not that i want anyone to commit those cp crimes!

  • @sharondowling8896

Well, if curiosity encompasses wanting to learn more about a topic already well researched, that is what git me watching both Sister Wives and the Duggars. I had both religious (cults?) groups on my radar for years. Never had a desire to watch reality tv before, or since, to be honest. Once I began to watch, I began to bond with some of the family members, and became invested in the possible upsides and downsides in the family dynamics. And finally ( having long given up on the hypocrisy and vile dogma pushed by the Duggars and the IBLP) I really did want to see the (villains??) Power Couple of Robyn and Kody finally be held accountable. Is that vengeance? Well, if I really wanted them to see the light, change their actions and attitudes, and help heal the family they hurt so badly, does that still count as vengeance? Close enough, I guess! Lol! I love your calm and compassionate discussions- no snark, no judgement. We need more people like you on social media! Appealing to the desires for calm, order, tranquility, etc!❤❤❤

Because someone else drama is better than yours. It has no consequences in your own life, and at the same time, it allows our brain to relax fighting about them when you can't really fight in your own life. I started by curiosity stayed because I didn't need to think or analyze so much cause it was a dumb show but then ended up quitting because it's just plain cruel and actuallyuseless. You are what u eat but yiu also are what u watch , what you hear.

If people don’t want to watch them anymore DONT! I’m sick of people repeatedly saying I’m not watching them anymore yet they’re coming on UA-cam to watch more videos about them to then say they don’t want to watch them anymore lol. It makes NO sense. It’s giving them publicity Kody and Robyn would be old news and the show would be too if it weren’t for the haters lol. People just love to hate its kinda pathetic and I don’t like them either lol but that’s ridiculous behavior.

I won't be watching any more of the show. But it is interesting to get some insight into why I ever watched it in the first place
