This knife is so excellent. The action is amazing and it feels great in the hand. I just bought it as a gift for someone and I couldn't help but to check it out. If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak, someone once said. 😆 I am one who does not mind knives with 8cr13mov. Makes sharpening easier, that's for sure. But I get it, for this market segment they either need to step up the material or step down the price. CRKT is great for supporting designers and that's what keeps me interested in their knives. Better materials would move me from interested to buyer more regularly.

Tuna seems pretty ok, I picked one up today and it was decently quality -controlled in my opinion (tight lockup, smooth action, sharp even edge). I like the details, thin profile, the pocket clip is a slam dunk (why can’t other companies figure out subdued deep carry ? cough cough spyderco).
In the Birdshot IV video they referred to the orange spacer as a “glass breaker.” I wonder if that’s true. Overall though, nice design, needs D2 and better washers and I’d pay a little more for those things.

  • @KageNoTora74

@@imamk9 nice knife. If your plan on getting the sharpening system that I think your referring to it is the one with the two ceramic rods sticking up in the shape of a V more or less? The system will definitely sharpen your knife back to a reasonable cutting edge.
But what you will find after a while is that you are limited to a certain degree. I believe Nick even has a video on that one as well... .
However with Lansky system that I’m recommending, you can purchase finer stones for it that will allow you to achieve a mirrored finish on your edge if you desire to do so. Or you can even purchase the deluxe version of the kit that comes with about 5 different stones straight out the box.
I guess it all depends what your trying to accomplish... I just know after getting involved with the knife community, I learned quickly that I preferred to take an extra 10min of time to achieve that mirrored finish that I’m referring to.
I also learned just recently that there is an even better system than the Lansky one and it doesn’t cost very much more than the Lansky, about $50. And if you look into them you will find that these systems that I am referring to all work in same sort of fashion as the higher end systems like the one Nick uses, there just not as of supreme quality like his. I believe the system that Nick uses is the KME Knife sharpening kit if you want to look that up.

Distain for teflon washers in the community is laughable. They're the best washers you can have in the field. You drop your knife in the mud all you have to do is rinse off the knife. Teflon is self lubricating, so you dont have to worry about having lubricant with you. You can't say that about phosphorus bronze or ball bearings. They cause less wear to metal, are very durable and abrasion resistant. Why else would Hinderer knives use them all these years.

what Im saying may seem a bit extreme, especially given that I really like the look of this knife. I honestly feel a little insulted at this point by CRKT, but not just CRKT...its also other knife lovers and youtubers who lump CRKT in with all of the other major production designers as if everyone is on an even playing field. Has no one noticed that they are still in the friggin stone age?! Every damn blade of theirs that I come across has 8cr14mov or something very similar, with the exception of a small line of blades that actually cost a bit more than the 8cr knives but have inferior steel. yup! worse than 8cr is your 1.4116. I don't absolutely hate either of these steels on budget knives, but cold steel offers the latter on their absolute bottom budget offerings (we are talking 10-30$ knives) but CRKT with their cool field strip mechanism is charging 60, 70, 80$+ ?? If they were made in USA, no problem. Made in China or Taiwan with these prices and materials is a slap in the nuts. Why is everyone just pretending like they are right there with other brands? I can admit, there are a few nice designs that I like to own, but not at the asking price. I know doing design collaborations cost money, and thats something CRKT does a lot. They have some stuff going for them, but update the materials and price accordingly, or I will continue no NOT own CRKT. rant over

Isn’t CRKT totally missing the point as to what they are attempting to produce? This is a company who uses design to part unsuspecting people of their money. CRKT would make better knives and sell more if they just chose D2, PB washers, and had some better QC and targeted the $40-70. 8Cr at $45 is unacceptable in 2020 when QSP, CJRB, and Civivi have stellar 9Cr, 12C28N, D2 for $35-50 with higher quality.
