  • The Situational Judgement Test is all too often overlooked by candidates and assumed to be the least important section. This is the wrong way to look at it though. All sections of the UCAT are important!
In this video, I'll walk you through the SJT question styles, how to prepare for your test, and why this subsection forms part of the UCAT.
The SJT is marked into four bands, and many universities use the SJT mark as a cut off for applicants. Band 2 is the most common cut off used, but scoring a Band 1 is obviously better!
Your responses during the exam should loosely be based on the professionalism requirements of medical students and doctors. To learn more about these duties, check out Good Medical Practice by the General Medical Council:

    Situational Judgement Test
The situational judgement test (SJT) measures your capacity to understand real world situations and to identify critical factors and appropriate behaviour in dealing with them. Questions do not require medical or procedural knowledge.
The test assesses integrity, perspective taking, team involvement, resilience and adaptability. SJTs are used widely in medical and dental selection, including selection of Foundation Doctors and Dentists, GPs and other medical specialities.
    Situational Judgement Questions
You will be presented with 69 questions associated with a series of scenarios (each scenario may have up to 6 questions associated with it). You will have 26 minutes to answer all questions within the subtest.
This subtest consists of two parts. For part one you will be asked to rate the importance of a series of statements in response to the scenario.
For part two you will be asked to rate the appropriateness of a series of statements in response to the scenario.
Some of the questions will require that you rate each response from four possible options. Some questions will require that you rate each response from two possible options. Other questions will require you to choose the most and least appropriate action to take in response to the situation, from the three actions provided.
