My favorite 5 star read is "A Kind Of Spark" by Elle McNicoll.
It's about an autistic girl who sets out on the quest to make the town council approve of a memorial for witches.
It's also packed with autistic joy. 🌈
I love all her books.
I picked up "Keedie" immediately afterwards.
It was released this month!
I'm now continuing to ordering copies of her other books 👀
💗a comment in one of my previous videos when I spoke about this book pointed out that “died by suicide” is a better, more appropriate term than the one I used then ☺️ so I only recently learned it but will continue to use that verbiage! 🫶🏼 Ohhhh I’ll have to check out that book, thank you for letting me know!! I added A Curious Beginning and Off the Books to my TBR. I am behind schedule on my reading and page goals so far this year. But my enjoyments of the books I read has increased as the year has gone on

You made me so excited to read the new Skyline book. I read the first one last week and really liked it. I haven't had a 5-star read since January but now I'm feeling so hopeful that this one will break the drought!
I'm def in the minority bc I don't think I've seen a single booktuber read the Veronica Speedwell series and not like it. I had to make my peace with the series not being for me after reading half of it and not giving a single book over 3.5 stars. I wanted to love it like everyone seems to ):

Ok, you were describing the book, then you asked if we heard Figgy mewing in the background, then you kept talking about how wonderful the character is. And I thought you were still talking about the cat at first. I'm such a dingus.
I love how Hiro and Figgy keep trying to steal the show.
I've been having a lackluster reading year so far. I think the best book I've read this year so far has been Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman. I'm shocked at this because I found the book in a Little Free Library- so win for the LFLs this time. (And it's the memoir that the show is based off of. The author is very aware of the privilege she has by being able to afford a lawyer, having supportive friends and family and by being a somewhat attractive white lady- writing about her experiences in prison. So I'm glad she's aware of those things and the memoir is much better as a result. She really does put forward the struggles that other people had to face that she didn't have to deal with.)
And the best fiction I've read so far has been A Crown of Swords, which is Wheel of Time book 7. I'm not technically finished with it yet, so I can't say for sure if it's the best of the year so far or not. And many have argued this is the beginning of "the slog" for the series, so the fact that it's probably the best book I've read so far this year is a description of the other books just not being all that great.
I put some books you recommended on my Libby list, so here's hoping my reading year is going to look up soon!
