OMFG I only recent got this album but this track is now my favorite Wire song ever! Like others have stated here each of their albums are different. They are true artists creating art; not just pop bullshit. I got into Wire about 25 years ago based on Michael Stype of REM saying they were his favorite band. I'm on board with that one!
this is stupid, but i once sold chairs my dad made, using only quotes from wire album titles. the guy who bought them acted like he was receiving a sacrament... Wire make us truly aawesome and awed.
Saw them play live at LiveAtDot in Berlin, Germany on March 24, 2009. They played this song live, and after the concert I bought the album it's on. Cool cut.
hello wire fans👽 So, on the cover of object 47 album. you see a water tower that looks really cool and obscure art colin does for his covers. which I dig them all of course. the bolanderna tower is located in uppsala Sweden by a McDonald's restaurant. Google it and take a gander
This band are so fucking underated here in australia its criminal when i was a teenager we have a station 2jjj that played new wave punk etc when this music had its day they stopped playing i gave up on jjj bands like wire 999 buzzcocks siouxsie and the banshees x ray specs the jam and so on were never big here ausie radio is pretty shit house they get paid to play there music wire and a lot other bands should get more recognition sydney australia 14)12/2022
Colin Newman wrote, and indeed, still writes, most of the music. Lewis' writes mostly the lyrics. Not really sure what Gilbert's main contributions were. This track was written and recorded after he left the band, as was everything on this album, Anyone who doubts that Newman has always been the principle songwriting talent inthe band should listen to the most recent albums, "Red Barked Tree" and "Change Becomes Us". You don't really notice that Gilbert isn't there.
Bruce Gilbert’s contribution was always 2nd guitar interplay/contrast, unorthodox background noises, and various sonic enhancements which added dimension. All of which were very important ingredients in Wire’s overall sound, but since his departure that void has been filled very effectively by newest member Matthew Simms. This was the one album where Colin handled all those parts though. Matthew wasn’t brought on board until the next album - Red Barked Tree.
Amazing really that this was recorded on a macbook pro, it sounds so alive, love it too that they've pushed the bass guitar right up in the mix. Great song, hope to see it with plenty of rotation on mtv2.
Great stuff, Wire. Due to a sickness in the clan, I missed the performance in Boston last night. Had anticipated it all summer! I hope you come back again soon. Either that, or I'm off to the UK to see you and then the Damned. How is it you have so many good groups of musicians out there?
47 releases, including 7" singles and 12" singles/EPs. Not all 47 are albums. Plus now there's one more album to add to the list. GODS, though, you were right about that.
@wirehq Record shops? You mean the one in Gimbels or the one in Woolwoths? XD Whatever, at least these guys are still at it. Unlike most "aging rockers", Wire still actually sounds like .. well .. like Wire. You know, not like Clampton or whatever all "we're old now so you should just applaud us for showing up and being icons" ... and yes, how can @1nnervision use UA-cam and not know how to use Google or amazon? They might as well hold a cassette recorder.against the speaker and tape it.
@1nnervision Someone sends you the music, the record company makes no money. Therefore they only invest in mainstream artists (I use that term lightly) that will make them money & have none left over to invest in the real, creative, original & ground breaking musicians that don't make them any money but ultimately are the most important of all.
Classic Wire. Different than anything previous. Altough it reminds me a little of commercial suicide. No matter, Colin Graham and Robert have yet again writtng the song i sing throughout the dya, musing the lyrics just affirms their unofficial status as laureats of the planet. Sorry i missed you guys in Chicago, I was there 20 years ago for the the drill.. I can't wait for the 48th. THANKS FOR EVEYTHING, GUYS!
I wonder how many times this most illustrious band have had to dodge the advertisers teasing fiscal offerings .. .. I bet , given half a chance , they'd be so far up this bands fundamental one could barely see the souls of their well shod feet ...
Apparently these old boys will continue to be riveting and relevant until the earth stops spinning. cant get enough of them since like 1979
same with me, specially the 154 album that is amazing.
this song is a permanent part of my DJ set and always get a good response.
If I saw Robert Grey, Colin Newman, and Graham Lewis on a subway... I'd probably stroke out... God love these guys.
They're incredibly good and always surprising. I hope they never stop making music.
you might try record shops...
I love this band
this makes me jump from my seat like if it was 1980 and I'm 17. W- I- R- E !!!
These guys are so amazing! I saw them at the Depeche Mode 101 concert with OMD and Thomas Dolby at the Rose Bowl. One incredible show.

47 freaking albums. and most of them totally different thant the previous. these guys are GODS.
So bloody melodic, so original.
Wire is truly awesome
I agree whole-heartedly apart from the part about 47 albums. They're not even close to that even 10 years after you posted that comment.
@@dralfredcarroll9567 This made 47 "objects" released. Not albums, true.
this is stupid, but i once sold chairs my dad made, using only quotes from wire album titles.

Wire make us truly aawesome and awed.
Nice to hear Robert Grey has rediscovered the chattering hihat.
Back to the roots with this one
Saw them play live at LiveAtDot in Berlin, Germany on March 24, 2009. They played this song live, and after the concert I bought the album it's on. Cool cut.
I see tongue in cheek irony here, fucking hilarious! These three have been at it, together, since the mid seventies...

THANK YOU!! I've been wondering about that for the last 13 years and today I finally got the answer... thank you so much!
One of my favorite albums. Full of energy and uplifting in spirit. Thank you Colin!
Still relevant after all these years...
Yes
One of the great songs from one of the greatest bands. Big influence today on bands who probably don't know it.

@@Brewzerr Much as I adore Wire forever, and all the side projects as well, Bruce Gilbert's "The Shivering Man" is my favorite from the whole lot
I love me some wire. I can't wait to hear the entire album.

My God! They're still ahead!!!

Can we have London show soon please? And ideally not at the Barbican...
My favorite band!
For over 40 years already.
They can only get better and better! There is still awesome English music out-there...
You can even say its danceable!!!
Absolutely genius.
Great!
great track...all the Wire Mojo still strong!

@@sizone on returning, culture vultures, french film, heartbeat, used to, too late, mercy...
Fucking top drawer, love them.
I like the last shot of Gotobed reading a map
I really like this song. What is he saying though.."one of us will live to rue(?) the day we met each other."?
14 years later: to rue something is to bitterly regret something
what a shame! Didn't hear this on College radio or Satellite…… good ol' Pandora !
nice.
💖
@tdifatta I saw that show also. Then the next day saw them in Hollywood at Club Lingerie.
Simply love this band.Melodies the Beatles could have written,to thrilling stirring industrial punk, often together.I love them
@wirehq or internet websites that sell records if you live in Kent or Kansas or Timbukfuckintu.

any chance of getting a copy of this LP over here in Buenos Aires, Argentina?
I feel stimulated, again! Viva Wire.

their stuff sounds good, but I can't find it anywhere. anyone willing to send it by any chance???

Love the Vid. Looks like it cost about £30, including a couple of rounds......
three years later: "what's a 'record shop'?"
Gee whiz! Look it up! To rue means to regret.
But I really like this song too.

Hey HAL, after you're done opening the pod bay doors, how's about making a rock video for the band Wire for us?
give me your answer, do.

haha i thought that thing in the beginning was some kinda golden thing, it's just a bunch of trees.
It's ok. It feels like they're just making tunes now instead of using sound/rhythm as a means to an end.
