Valerie Harper showed no significant signs of aging, from the beginning of the run of the MTM show until the end of the run of 'Rhoda.' She was a natural beauty.
Get in line, David is going to be seeing people for decades. I hope he still holds concerts when I get there. He is an amazing performer. Can't wait to meet him.
I was born on 1980 growing up in a small city. Off the wall, one thing I like about this episode is seeing the cut scene and how New York looked in 1970s. The changes of Times Square, despite the washed out 480p film stock, but the limitations of a scrolling marquees compared to todays QLED... epic!
Really, genuinely funny. Being trapped with the advantage of having booze handy seems to guarantee character bonding: still remember Archie and Meathead stuck in a meat cooler with alcohol as one of the funniest most poignant episodes of All in the Family, also in the 70s.
Another show having an ep of at least 2 cast members accidently locked in some room...several 1970s sitcoms had that scene. This show was funny, glad I saw it new. For Rhoda not earning much, she dresses well, and has nice boots. She has a nice apt. with alot of furnishings, too. I always thought this was funny, especially eps with johnny the Vegas lounge singer on them.
They use this plot situation where two or more characters are stuck in a room or in a lift. It happened in The Dick Van Dyke Show, Frasier, I Love Lucy, and many other sitcoms too.
CaptainGrimsdale yes, Lucy was trapped alone in the basement meat freezer but the Ricardos and the Mertzs were all trapped together in the alpine cabin in the Swiss alps by Avalanche.
CaptainGrimsdale.. do you ever say anything positive? I’ve observed your comments now over several episodes and you are so negative. It makes me wonder why you even watch the Rhoda series/seasons. It seems to displease you so..
If this is THE Susannah Hoffs from The Bangles, I just want to say that I love the band. All you ladies are amazing musicians. If this is not THAT Susannah Hoffs, I still love The Bangles. And Valerie Harper, too. May she rest in peace.
To be totally real usually these type of party's in real life: lite snacks like cheese and crackers. Veggie plates like carrot sticks, celery sticks with onion dip. And like Jack wanted pigs in a blanket. Mini potato knishes. And spring rolls... Maybe some sort of sweet cakes as well... They over thought everything...
I remember when you had to lick postage stamps...tasted kinda minty. The peel-off ones sure are alot better. Johnny was funny, dressed in costume. I always wondered how it would have been if Johnny and Rhoda had fallen in love and married, and he was actually loyal to her. Jack is sure a grouch. Getting yourself locked in a room had been a common thing on old shows. Lucy got locked in a room on The Lucy Show. Archie Bunker also did. And the people always panic as if they will die within the 2 hours or the weekend. No cellphones back then to call for help!! I watched all these eps when new. I was 14 and in 8th grade when the show premiered.
This was a good episode. The only thing I don't like is how Rhoda became sooooo pathetic after Joe left her. What an empty and meaningless life. Locked in a bathroom with Jack when Rhoda should be married with a kid is just sad and depressing, imo.
Too many 1970s sitcoms had the "locked in a room" scenario. On Happy Days, the guys got locked in Howard Cunningham's store vault. I don't think there was a 1970s show I didn't watch new.
Garry Marshall used to talk about when the writers ran out of ideas "we could always do a 'stuck-in'" meaning two of the characters would get stuck in some room and talk for 20 minutes.
I really enjoyed this one soooo much Entire cast did their part Would not hv bn the same w out each one of them Rhoda, Brenda Jack, Ramone, lda, Gary, Benny & everyone at the party...Johnny Venture OMG Tht bthrm scene was CLASSIC I remember 🤔, oh GOD, Rhoda & Jack 'finna do it...thank GOD they ddnt...ijs
My own view is that the writers were secretly jealous of her and sadistically subjected her to loss after loss. I loved the characters, but I ultimately hated this show as a vehicle for them. It needed to be taken over by a better director and writers. The funny thing is that it parallels the downhill slide of American culture at large from the ‘70s to the ‘80s, so maybe it was an inevitable reflection of that.
@@revolutionaryviews9702 Or maybe the dramas and the “losses”, as you call them, were just mechanisms for a storyline. Her doing it like a champ and a winner would not have kept the interest of the peeps. It’s all reaction derived humor. Very Long Island. Very funny.
I always noticed that the music in this season changed so dramatically, in the beginning, it's actually quite "dark", depressing, almost ominous. And when did Rhoda stop being a window dresser, lose her own business, and start working for a costume business??
She's been looking green in the face for a couple of seasons. Kind of like the wicked witch in the wizard of oz. everyone else looks fine...as in not green.
I wish Brenda hadn’t cut her long beautiful hair, but she is probably like me and it looks good long but just gets in the way, is too hot and hurts after awhile to wear it up.
Emily Edwards you have to be old enough to get the seventies humor and that's because she didn't want to hang out with him she rather hang out with Jack that night

They're a type of "bottle" episode. Community also had a great one, as did Mad About You. They don't always have to involve being "stuck", but do limit the story to one set - like Seinfeld's Chinese Restaurant episode.

R.I.P VALERIE! YOU ARE SOOOOOO MISSED AND SOOOOOO LOVED! ❤️🌹🌺
The ending is . . . Hilarious 😂
RIP Valerie
The party invitations assembly line is very cute. No credit to Henry Ford, however. Great to see Ida, wielding the guilt weapon so skillfully again.
I would 100% wear EVERYTHING that Rhoda is wearing! Quarantine 2020! { And I grew up in the 70s!
I grew up in the 70s too. Loved David Cassidy🙂

One of the BEST episodes of Rhoda. I laughed so hard. 😂😂😂😂
Awww the sweet scene of them singing. Truly Classic
OMG I love that Rhoda made a Columbo reference! My sister and I love Columbo!
She was in columbo

Omg I remember those rolling towels even then I thought they were disgusting and full of germs. Yuck 🤢
It's 2021 and I know some businesses that still use them. 🤢
That was brilliant
They don't have money for ads or flyers, but they have money for WINE, BOOZE and PARTY FOOD...okay.
Ida catered the party.
as time goes by ! they opened the door the card columbo way ! thanks
If my Ma had offered to cater a party for me I would have gone down on my knees and kissed her hands! Ida Morgenstern was the bomb! Shalom and RIP
'Rhoda' couldn't live in NYC today with the high rent etc

Rhoda was stunning while the man she had to get close to was grossly unkept the entire episode.
Typical owner of that kind of shop/like a flower shop
23:22 Ida pulling in for a dance :D

Eloise, it's never too late. You only have one life. You have our blessing to live it.

Why would Jack & Rhoda want to see Johnny Venture locked in a restroom?

They made Benny seem like an utter moron in this episode--usually he just seems goofy, not idiotic.
Interesting angle.
A few episodes ago she cheated on an accounting exam, didn't know anything, and now she's handling the books?
She was doing the books before then.

K Prieto she did before the class also.
I wouldn't mind being stuck in any room with Rhoda and the booze would be a plus.

22 January 2022
I liked the Columbo part.. that seemed familiar to me. Why did Rhoda and Jack want Johnny to be stuck in the bathroom??
Because Jack was worried that maybe he was going to SING for them?!
I think because they both found him annoying
They were both drunk out of their minds.
Emily Edwards you have to be old enough to get the seventies humor and that's because she didn't want to hang out with him she rather hang out with Jack that night
Jack and Rhoda should have been married at the end of the 5th season.
@Victor R. Johnny Venture would have been a better match for Rhoda.
Why???
Decipher Code Johnny Venture should have been more of a character in the show! As pompous as he was on the outside Rhoda was nuts over him!!
Are you kidding? I like Jack but he's not right for Rhoda. Just like Lou is to Mary, Jack is a father figure to Rhoda.
