If this had come out for the Saturn in 1996, it probably would've crushed Nintendo and Sony as this would've been very impressive. Trouble is Sonic Team didn't want to help STI *the team behind Sonic X-treme* and thought Nights into dreams would be enough to rival Mario and Crash...not saying Nights was a bad game but it was no Sonic.
This is making me remember playing the 3D Sonic World in Sonic Jam for hours. I think I spent more time in Sonic World than in the actual Genesis games on Sonic Jam.
Nor the Dreamcast or Gamecube, Mushroom Valley is a custom level made with the PC version so there's less limitations, main thing I'm trying to show here the design of the game is still very classic/genesis like, open level design with different paths, spin dashing/rolling, fighting badniks to save animals *collecting a bit like 3D Blast...ofc using the homing attack like in that game too* there's still a lot of Classic Sonic zone designs too few levels being 3D ones from Sonic 3&K's angel island, Sonic Adventure 2 on the other hand has a different take to it's level design and gameplay being closer to the 1st proper modern Sonic game.
