Unironically, this is one of the greatest Batman films, and I love how much of a love letter this movie is to the legacy of Batman as a character and how he's affected so many others. Will Arnett is INCREDIBLY UNDERRATED as Lego Batman. Fun Fact: Zoe Kravitz actually voiced Catwoman in this movie and coincidentally she plays Catwoman in live action in Matt Reeves's The Batman (2022). Another surprise casting is that Billy Dee Williams aldo voices Two Face in this movie as well, and that is especially cool since he play Harvey Dent in the original 1989 Batman Tim Burton movie and though we never got to see him come back to play the character and become Two Face, this movie gives us possibly the only chance of Billy Dee William as Two Face in a film
The gag wih Bane is because of how he was played by Tom hardy im Darknight Rises. Specially his voice. They even do him like that but even funnier in the Harley Quinn show.
And they don't have that pseudo father/daughter relationship, the killing joke movie 🤢🤮🤮 Bruce Timm is such a weird dude it's no wonder he only worked on a small portion of the shows
"Ruuuuun! It's Godzilla!" "It looks like Godzilla but due to international copyright laws , it's not." "Still, we should run like it's Godzilla!" "Though it isn't."
I love how un-serious this movie is. Also, like the Lego Movie, this is fully CGI yet can pass as stop-motion. My favorite part is that Lego Voldemort is voiced by British comedian Eddie Izzard, while Alfred is voiced by actual Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Also, Zoë Kravitz voicing Catwoman in this before playing live action Catwoman in _The Batman_
It works so well as a parody because the director, Chris McKay, was a huge Batman fan. It makes the jokes more genuine, cause they don‘t come from a place of disinterest or hatred, but love for the source-material. Just like your closest friends can roast you the hardest. Interestingly, he originally was set to direct a Nightwing movie for DC after Lego Batman was released, as he felt like Dick Grayson never got the proper treatment he deserved (case in point that horrible edgy Harley Quinn cartoon where Nightwing is literally the butt of all jokes). Sadly, that won‘t be the case anymore after all the WB/DC shakeups. (Edit: as a greek I will ignore the „misunderstood, queen“ part for medusa Meg)
DALEKS British Robots are Daleks, from Doctor Who. Technically they aren't robots tho, they are small squid-like aliens in mobile tanks with a deep hatred for all life Also the suit guys are Agent Smith from Matrix, and the little "yodas" are Gremlins from the movie Gremlins
Same! I grew up with The Dark Knight trilogy and then watched The Animated Series and played The Arkham Games, all of which I adore, so I was really worried going into the cinema for this film that this was going to be too silly for me. Turns out it was silly in exactly the right way while also being a love letter to the world of Batman, and I couldn't appreciate this movie more than I do.
My friend, do NOT underestimate Alfred. He may be old, but he’s arguably the most dangerous member of the Batfamily right next to Batman himself. He taught Bruce nearly everything he knows about combat, the League of Assassins training was just extra. Alfred was part of the UK’s special forces, and doesn’t have to adhere to Batman’s “no killing” and “no guns” rules. He’s beaten SUPERMAN once. As for the Bane thing, I believe it’s supposed to be a mix of the Welsh Bane from Dark Knight Rises and the typical Latino Bane from most media. Fun fact: Zod is nowhere to be seen in the Phantom Zone. My theory is at the exact same time Joker got in, Zod found his own way out.
5:15 I think that's a very specific nod to the 2016 Suicide Squad movie, where Killer Croc was a Squad member, and the only real thing he contributed to the story was dive through water-filled tunnels to plant a bomb. Some thought the character was wasted since he was so underused
Bruce didn't initially adopt Dick because it was the 40s and he wasn't married :( He wanted to thought By the time the second Robin, Jason, came along, the times have changed so he was able to adopt him immediately. Bruce did adopt Dick eventually too, but Dick was already an adult in-universe by that point.
Bruce did, finally, formally adopt Dick as his son around the year 2000. I think that he also legally adopted both Jason and Tim, but I don't trust the interwebs to be accurate! Yes, "Exterminate!" is a reference to the Doctor Who antagonists the Daleks.
Zoe Kravitz voiced Catwoman in this movie then later played her in The Batman 2022 because she originally wanted to play her in The Dark Knight Rises and was turned away for not being white enough (even though Catwoman has been none-white before)
It wasn’t for Catwoman, it was only for a small part. Maybe for the part of Selina’s young roommate (Jen) or the role of Thalia’s mother. Either way, she didn’t get to audition because she was told "they were not going ‘urban’ on the part”.
I love how Sauron is Jemaine Clement, who is from New Zealand where Lord of the Rings was famously filmed, and whose partner in Flight of the Conchords, Brett McKenzie is in Lord Of the Rings as Lindir aka Figwit.
The Batman 2022 was in the works since Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The thing was originally meant to be Ben Affleck's Batman vs Deathstroke. It went through so many rewrites that the final version is completely unrecognisable from the original draft. The LEGO Batman Movie's casting was filled with references. Catwoman was one of them. They already had her for 2022 and the cameos in the movie as a forward reference. Also: Something funny is that they casted Voldemort's actor as Alfred but used an impersonator for the actual Voldemort.
This is the first video I've seen of yours. One of my friends and I took his kid sister to see this movie in theaters on a whim one day. Glad we did, it’s a good movie and I enjoyed it a lot. Ton of fun the whole way through.
I went to see this in theaters with my best friend and was already dying before it even started. 2 seconds in and I was already laughing🤣 I saw the animated series only a few years ago (2003 Batman was the one I grew up watching) and really did like it. A geek group I’m in always praises Mark Hamill as the Joker, I was curious, and ended up watching the series. Finally got to meet the Mad Hatter, loved Mark as Joker, Harley and Poison Ivy were awesome, huge respect for Kevin (rip), and I got a good laugh at all the 90’s stuff (born in 96, so I didn’t get to experience much haha) If you love Bat-family stuff, you need to watch Batman: Wayne Family Adventure. It has all of the Bat-kids, Bruce being the best dad to all of them, the kids being total siblings, Alfred being an awesome grandfather to them, and kicking bad guy butt as a family.
I love this movie, a silly thing about it is that this is probably the most "lore-heavy" adaption of Batman yet (tbf it references so much of other adaptions as well) and I doubt it can ever be topped, not even by the Harley Quinn show which is also amazing at that.
Also I enjoy this characterisation of Batman, but Batman LITERALLY never gets over his issues. It’s why we have so many iterations of him. As much as I like the positive message of moving past trauma in this film the problem with comic characters is they have to revert back to their original mould. That’s LITERALLY how this Batman came back in LEGO Movie 2
