1:02 I assume "M Edition" refers to the IBM Model M keyboard. The standard keyboard for the latter half of the 1980s, on through the mid-2000s.

Just got the Commodore 64 themed keyboard (8bitdo). Really wanted full board with keypad, so soon as they announced the keypad I did it. Very clicky, very old school, so I am quite excited. Will make full switch once that keypad comes. Do like the digital led like readout on the keypad, adds that extra 70's 80's feel

That OLED burn-in issue sounds pretty significant actually. OLEDs aren’t like old plasma screens where you could run something else on the screen to “reset” the pixels. OLEDs pixel wear is cumulative, so if 300 hours of a game HUD causes burn in then maybe you can extend the total time by displaying something else, but 300 total hours of a game will cause burn in.
OLED TVs have their pixel refresh programs where they measure and compensate for usage of individual pixels, and that took the likes of LG years to get right. If this GBC screen doesn’t have anything similar then that’s going to be a bad time.
Wouldn’t be surprised if someone created a 3D printed “bumper” wraparound to attach the number pad to the 8bitdo keyboards.
Respectfully, I don’t think it would be an unfair “day 1” comparison on the Morph. They took people’s money in November 23, and theoretically have been developing this thing for years, hence why they charge full price. They are a company, not a kid’s high school project. I would expect thorough day 1 reviews, and not arbitrarily lenient reviews because they happened to take too long to release the promised feature or product.
TKL Keyboards are my preferred keyboard layout because 90% of the time I do t need a numpad.
I just got this the other day in Famicon colors. Really impressed! I jumped on the numpad pre-order as I had been looking for a wireless mechanical numpad anyway!
The OLED burning thingy is not that of a triviality, 300h is crazy low, you just get 150 sessions of 2h of Tetris for those lines to be visible, it's literally 5-12 months of playing a game depending on how often you do it.
Re: burn-in, i think the most important folks to be aware of it would be chiptune musicians (who run nothing but LSDJ or similar) and GB Camera photographers to a lesser extent. In those scenarios the consoles often become unitaskers, potentially exacerbating the issue. For gaming, i honestly struggle to imagine a scenario where itd be an issue.
Funny how I love that 8bitdo released the TKL keyboard and detached numpad. Writing, gaming and doing excel stuff don't use the same posture and I always hated how I needed to keep ajusting chunky full-sized keyboard because I never found a good and nice looking (and not expensive) TKL+numpad combo

On the number pad: I prefer keyboards tenkeyless keyboards like that since my mouse goes where the number pad would otherwise be. You get the flexibility to put the number pad where you want. Number pads are great for data entry, but for home use, there's less of an argument to that extent. I bought a Logitech G13 10+ years ago - back when they were cheaper - so I don't strictly need a number pad like 8BitDo's. If they put a volume nob on it I'd be more interested.
I love the 8bitdo keyboard, but that was my only complaint when I got mine. "Why the hell doesn't it have the 10 pad?" I feel for the price the keyboards are set they should have made it all inclusive, but I guess after some complaints or maybe marketing strategy, they chose this way to get a little more. The IBM - M pallette looks awesome I wish they would have announced it earlier I would have waited to get that one instead of the NES version although I still like it very much but the IBM was very nostalgic for me its where I first played the Oregon trail as well as number munchers which were my favorites.
Man, as an avid Atari user back in the 80’s, I’m a little miffed that 8bitdo passed over the iconic Beige/Deep Brown look of the XL line (arguably the most popular line of the Atari 8-bit family).

Yeah, I'd still like a full size keyboard rather than a separate number pad. I use the number pad all the time and having it detached is unappealing. This isn't the right solution for me.

the IBM Model M keyboard is a highly lauded keyboard that released in the 80s and continued manufacture into the early 90s. Though by then I believe Lenovo took over the band and production. It featured a buckling spring switch and a stainless steel backplate and was a direct response to a previous keyboard they released that was hot garbage and was utterly panned by reviews at the time. The IBM model M continued to be popular among tech enthusiasts until the 2020s when a featured mod of one went a bit viral. Which took a model M and turned it into a Steampunk brass keyboard looking affair. Its a great keyboard. My familys first pc was a modded IBM Aptiva that came with one and I held onto it until it failed. Maybe I shorted the board or the cable went bad. By the time i got a replacement prices were going up.

Yup fully agree, its a major oversight. I don't think anyone is going to end up using all 4 inputs on the back, so it would have made the most sense. Unless I have missed something and they do a usb to headphone jack adapter. Having to use 2 dongles is terrible
Burn in is inevitable on oled panels unfortunately. Just the reality of the tech. Some panels are better than others and take longer. But it will happen eventually given enough time on every panel. I personally love and use OLED but I am fully aware that they will need to be replaced.

How many of these businesses are carrying out EMC compliance testing and certification before committing to sales?
My guess is it depends on the quantity. If someone is hand-making 100, adding EMC testing would triple the cost. If you’re making batches of 5000 or more, it SHOULD be required. Who knows for sure though…I’d be willing to bet most knockoffs use fake certifications for everything.

I'm only very recently learning about upscalers. Does something like the ossc pro or tink 4k on a 4k tv really make such a huge difference compared to an older upscaler on a 1080p TV when talking about 80s and 90s consoles in rgb? I just can't wrap my head around it, at some point I feel like you'd stop seeing any noticeable improvement? For the record I've never owned an OLED or 4k tv so it's quite possible I'm just missing out and have no idea what modern machines can do lol.
