Lawrence Tibbett and Lupe Velez! - Learning "El Manisero!" from 1931

- Though not the entire piece, the charm of these two performers, and the incredible voice of Mr. Lawrence Tibbett add to this lovely, and nostalgic work. Oddly enough, the film "Cuban Love Song," makes no mention of the composer's name anywhere in the titles! He was Moisés Simons! His was an amazing career, and his compositions, and orchestrations knew no bounds! Also, please pay attention to Mr. Tibbett and his lengthy finish!

The love of my life... died before I was born...
I always liked her too, and think she left us way too soon! She was so talented, vivacious and just charming! Thanks for your message, and best wishes!
Nuestra bella Lupe Vélez tan bella ya tan tan twlentosa
Lupe looks so lovely. Tibbett looks so boyish. The spontaneous quality of their performances in this scene is so charming.

Hermosa
Love her !!!!
Juan, saw your beautiful tribute to Mother's Day, and I was delighted! What a fine family you have, and as time goes on I hope we'll become friends. I've got 17 years on you, but hope one day to explain more of my feelings for Cuba. I'm at the point where I don't even know where to begin. I'm hoping you'll wait for my "story!" Thinking of you and your fine family!
John
Nice to see old Cuba, especially since I never saw any Cuba.
Saw the film on TCM. Hollywood "decency" ending...she has his baby and therefore dies; he lives happily ever after with his wife and the son.
I'm sure there was stock footage shown. I told my parents about it. They did not know the movie existed so they also saw it on On Demand. Now they are telling their friends.
Honestly, I don't think either of the performers saw any Cuba themselves. Jimmy Durante is in the movie, and I don't think he did either. It was probably filmed on some Hollywood backlot, and the rest was "make-believe." Thanks for your comment! Will get back to you soon!
Very nice
Lupe Velez was the role model for many female comedians in the world. She was an original; she was "The Mexican spit fire". She was part of a group that made Hollywood: Dolores del Rio, Katty Jurado, Tito Guizar, Ramon Novarro, Andrea Palma... Married to Johnny Weismuller (Tarzan). Committed suicide, when Mexican great, Arturo de Cordova, refused to marry her. Salute
Hola amigo,
