Corbyn: Johnson over-estimates himself - BBC News
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn says "no one underestimates this country", but it is "deeply worried that the new prime minister over-estimates himself".
He says the country has been "held back" by nine years of austerity, and opportunity and freedom have been "taken away".
Cuts to government spending, he says, were a "political choice", not an "economic necessity".

A E you have to remember the era and it was the Catholic church that was persecuting Protestants all across Europe. Britain had become a sanctuary for those persecuted people, refugees who had to flee for their lives. Do you remember the Saint Bartholomew’s Day massacre, the Inquisition etc etc Guy Fawkes and Co were Vatican agents trying to kill the King and democracy.
People say that the rest of the world laughs at the UK's politics. I can't think why, I think the House of Commons provides the most inspiring and applaudable form of entertainment. Watching both sides of the political spectrum clash in one of the oldest parliaments in the world is a spectacular sight indeed.

The fact that they shout and are passionate isn't the problem. The problem is they are all educated at Eton,Cambridge and Oxford and they are all or nearly all from very similar back grounds . The Parliament is a wonderfully idea the trouble I think is the people who get to work in it are not representative of the people they rule over. Did Johnson just say the Conservatives help the NHS? The last 9 years say otherwise.
They actually announced an additional 20 billion last year to mark the 70th anniversary. Spending is also up year on year.
TheHilt92 so are the cuts they make
@@TheHilt92 Yeah but they spend in a way to bring the NHS to its knees. They spend on many useless beaucrats and public companies charging extortionate fees in hospitals, just to change a lightbulb.
@@TheHilt92 thats contrary to what i read. My local A&E is set to close. This despite another local one closing it's doors as too full. Apparently, the plan is to only have 78 (i think) A&E departments for entire UK. i.e. 7billion. Apparently, we have to get used to not having such easy access.
In dorset, where my sister lives, the best time to reach local A&E is 30minutes. Thats a 1-hour round trip before help arrives AT BEST. Let's just say the roads around there are notorious for bad driving conditions n thus many accidents for it's population. Say hers closes too. say the next nearest is 1hr away. that makes it 2Hrs b4 she reaches A&E in an ambulance. Add in twice the population waiting to be seen n thus wait time being 2x longer. Strangely, a few days ago, my friend who had to goto dorch from brid for broken ribs n questionable pierced lung waited 5hrs. (i think he said 8, but ill be conservative here) That wlda been 10 hours before he was seen, excluding travel times!

Our country is deeply divided, so it's obvious that people aren't going to like what Corbyn has to say. The divide isn't felt only throughout our land, but throughout our parliament. Of course, you can see how both the Conservative and Labour parties have retreated to their polar opposite roots, further reinforcing our division. However, Corbyn's criticisms are quite clear and I don't blame him for saying anything that he mentioned in his statement. Boris is a great speaker, but we do need reassurances that what he says is what will happen. Let's just hope this mess is resolved soon, because it has gone on too long.

Boris smashed it🤣🤣🤣
Priti Patel- new Home Secretary ... supports CAPITAL PUNISHMENT .... AND together with Dominic Raab - new Foreign Secretary .... wrote about the GREAT BRITISH WORKER ....
“Once they enter the workplace, the British are among the worst idlers in the world. We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music.”

Boris saying that NHS will get funding as a consequence of the country's economic rise, but how would a no-deal help the economy.
Really can't see a positive outcome from this.....
maybe not at the beginning, but I knew no matter the outcome it would time, personally I have not seen any benefit to my life from the EU.

@@BATF4P quite right but at least have balls to give it a go there is no glory without sacrifice.
Has mass uncontrolled immigration from the European union been good for british working class people?
Immigrants can benefit the country in some ways, they essentially take the jobs which no one wants but need to be done. Also the NHS wouldnt function without its foreign workers.
Corbyn says the Labour Party will campaign to Remain. How disgusting most Labour voters voted to LEAVE.
Glen Tyler incorrect. More people voted remain however many labour marginal seats are in areas where the leave vote is strong
Glen Tyler: I can't say how many Labour supporters actually voted leave just like anyone else, regardless of what they claim, but I was a Labour supporter who voted leave and now I'm a ex Labour voter who voted leave, and with this back sliding U turning clown leading them I very much doubt I'm alone.

Boris grabbed hold of an unsuspecting Corby like a ravenous man at a barbecue grabs hold of a chicken wing. Split it, took the main meat, then the bits of skin, and the little bubbly bits around the joints, and tossed the clean bones nonchalantly into the bin. Absolutely super first speech.
Outstanding analogy! The dinosaur is extinct
Johnson 'he's been turned into a remainer'
Like most of the country after the real repercussions of Brexit were reveal

They don't call him the British Trump for nothing.
Jo was universities minister a while back as well, he knows the role.
How? He is an elected mp in his own right? He has previous experience as a junior minister
So another round of negotiations with the Eu now with Johnson ? Here how it will go again :
U.K. : we don’t want the backstop
Ireland : we don’t want the backstop
Eu : we don’t want the backstop
U.K. ok lets have a deal
Eu: ok lets put the backstop in the deal

U.K. a deal without the backstop
Eu : tell us what you want
U.K. : a deal without the backstop
Eu : not going to happen
U.K. no deal then
Eu : listen everyone , they don’t tell us what they want and they are also threatening us . A no deal is U.K.s fault . ( we don’t care how absurd we are , majority of the mainstream media will support us either way hahaha)
Maybe it is like this
UK: we want to leave the EU
EU: Ok but you need to keep peace in Ireland ad you have respected in the good friday agreement
UK: Ok we will try that
IE: we have an idea, what we do is we put the border in the Irish sea, so we can keep some peace and stability on the island of Ireland and not have the troubles again
EU: sounds good!
UK: sounds good!
*Idea fails in UK parliament*
UK: that didnt work as the DUP didnt want that nor did the opposition or EDG, what should we do?
EU: how about keeping you all in the customs union until we can sort something else out
IE: that'll keep stability on my Island
UK: this might not work for us, but we will try anyways
*fails in UK parliament AGAIN*
UK:What can we do?!
EU:We have you ideas and these are the only ways to honour the good firday agreement, we aren't going to remove it as it will fail IE, who want to stay in the EU without being bombed
UK: well, we'll have to try something else
*explains plan*
EU: the tech is years away, it will never work, either backstop one or two, we aren't taking it out of the deal, we are putting our foot down on this
UK:*threatens EU with no deal*
EU: *doesn't care as they know we have more to lose than them*
UK: ThE EU Is BeInG sO uNfAiR aBoUt ThE dEaL & aReN't BuDgInG !111!!!1111
EU: we gave you the options and we aren't moving on it, so No Deal is really YOUR own fault in this.
i think this is more accurate
I was previously a Labour supporter but I have come to hate them over this process... they are a total and utter disgrace. Their only interest is power by any means necessary.
To people below saying, "Parliament has always been noisy", er, no it hasn't. Parliament was formed in 1295 and has always had a reputation for the occasional boisterous debate (eg during the 1642-49 Civil War, 1832 Great Reform Crisis etc, 1992 Maastricht Debates etc, but by and large it had a history of respectful debate and tolerance for the other side's point of view.
This is disappearing fast.
Parliamentary debates are genertally still very dry. But PMQ's has always been boistrous. It's not about substance and detail, it's an opportunity to hold their feet to the fire with invective and polemics ...it has always been that way and it serves a purpose, whether you like the look of it or not.
how the fuck would you know?
It looks like UK has their own version of Trump now.
