He's not wrong lol. Back in my day people only studied for JEE and ruined their board exams. A few years later most of them didn't get into IIT/NIT and they neither could do an MBA from IIMs or any other good private B-schools because of their 12th marks.
True its still prevalent too many of of the aspirants literally think of boards as trash and they will get marks easily especially from subjects like PE some of my friends of who went to Kota and had a good score in mains to secure a good NIT actually failed to get required percentage in boards

While I have an acquaintance who is a cse graduate from a simple btech college and is currently working in Adobe with a packages of 70 lakhs+. IIT tag can only help you initially, it is not everything. Once in employment skills matter more than just tags.

But later in the end , we came to know she is the first Graduate from her entire village and entire village is waiting for her this entire four years . Finally they celebrated like hell after her completion of college. So dont interrupt anyone from doing their thing of interest , who knows at what situation they are doing that
