  • So, I decided go to a local campsite and record this micro car camper sleeping setup. The temperature was below zero. Although I kept the rear door open it was really toasty. I used this setup in -8 °C without any issues. The double sleeping back acts as blanket. The mattress insulation combined with 3 layers on top can easily protect you in a cold winter. This setup worked for me better than a single expensive sleeping bag and thin inflatable mattress.
    In this video you will learn how to convert a hatchback car to a practical micro camper without any modifications and more importantly without making a mess. The entire process take less than 15 minutes. This is not a conversion for full-time living in the car, but a very smart solution for short trips for a couple of days. Remember, thisis solo car camping. The car will always be ready for your normal daily usage and no will notice it is a micro camper, even when it is fully loaded and ready to go FARAWAY!
    This is a Ford Fiesta MK7. Surprisingly it provides a lot of space. There are some specific features for this car that are handy time to time. I'm sure this can be applied to any other hatchback car. Each car has some unique features that are useful while camping. Just do your own research.

    No cutting. No drilling. Keeping the car in mint condition. That is my favourite part.

    Geniale!

    Depends on where you plan to camp in winter. -8c is a warm day in Finland during winter.

    This is brilliant mate! I’ll have to try this in my Nissan hatch. Curious…did you use nappies under all that? Can’t imagine trying to get out of all of that in the middle of a winter night!

      Good point! Actually it wasn't a camping video, but more like a how to or tutorial style.

      It's IKEA Linnmon 100x60 cm. Surprisingly it fits perfectly in this car! Not attached to anything. Just watch my very first video to figure out. Cheers!

    Something for me to consider after doing vanlife for two years and all the expense that goes with it. Great idea and very stealth if you need it to be.

    amazing! where did you buy these perfect matching boxes?

    • @farawayporch
      @farawayporch  Рік тому +15

      Thanks! B&M (UK). Surprisingly they perfectly match. Initially I wanted to use one piece ottoman box for each side. It gives a softer top surface and it is more sturdy. However, making it with two boxes stacked on top of each other gives you more flexibility. Because the smaller one goes to the base and the longer one to the top. Because the space between rear and front seats is not fully cubical. Also, ottoman boxes are heavier. Additionally, a large ottoman box filled with so many stuff makes it difficult to find items quickly when you need them. Overall, this is a good setup and the car can always be back to normal in less than 5 minutes without making a mess.

    I'm thinking about same thing. My question is: Why not leave engine and heating on overnight? Consumption is maybe 0,7 l/h, I sleep 7 hours so it is 5 l of gas. It's not to expensive.

    • @farawayporch

      Would be small for you. I'm 175cm and will sleep diagonally without any issues. You probably need to sleep in fetal position (slightly).
