    I have been thinking of doing this but never sat down to do the math for it. This just helped me in deciding to do just that. Price of wood is crazy changing so this will be a big help!! Thanks so much!

    This is exactly where my mind goes when I see all these videos where people buy bunches of the 1x2 wooden signs from the dollar tree to make things. All I see is money wasted when they can get the wood for a fraction of the price at a hardware store. On top of that most stores will cut them too. They'll spend $12 on those wood signs when they could've spent $3 on the same amount of wood.
    Thanks hun for the complete breakdown and detail!

    Great idea! Do you ever consider using 1/4” plywood for your signs? You can buy 4x8’ sheets for around $20. I make signs that are about 5.5” x 12” and can make about 64 signs with this. I use a router table and 1/4” straight bit to cut a groove in the frame that it sits in, kind of like making a shaker style cabinet door.

      I have definitely considered it, but always thought it'd be too flimsy for the type of frames I made. I definitely will try making the frame this way some time soon!

    I think that we think alot alike. I'd been researching lasers and had been looking into Thunder, then you got yours. I was thinking about trying screen printing signs, then you did a tutorial. Told my hubby I should make my own 2x1s because they're such poor quality at the store, now this....LOL quick, what am I thinking now??? Hahahahaha

    Very cool tip on saving money. Nice you get to have your wood stash. Prices are so bad with wood right now. Been limiting on what I buy. I've been viewing your husband's videos. Really great content from both of you. Blessings.

    I looked into this & it’s actually cheaper for me to just buy the 1x2s from Home Depot. Our 2x6x8 boards are $19.28 each & 1x2s are $2.20
    The break down makes the 2x6x8 $2.75 per each board. It’s crazy how much the price fluctuates depending on the area

    • @SimplySallie
      @SimplySallie  2 роки тому

      Isn't that crazy! Our home depot doesn't ever have 1 x 2s and when they do, they are all cracked or damaged.

  • @robintaylor1534

    Thanks Sallie! Do you ever have a warp or bend in the wood when you use 2 x 6? We have been ripping down 1 x 4 into 1 x 2’s now notice the wood warps really bad afterwards on some of them.

    • @SimplySallie
      @SimplySallie  2 роки тому +2

      Yes sometimes! It isn't always terrible but the best thing you can do is try and straighten them out, you can ziptie them together or keep pressure on them to straighten them out, or use those bowed ones to use as your smaller cuts.

    Thank you Sallie for this video. May I ask the actual dimension of each strip after you strip the 2 x 6? Because 6" is actually 5 3/4 inch from the store. So trimming the sides to be square (that already reduces the default 5.75" width), and then divide that to 7 strips, plus you have to take into consideration the thickness of the blade (around 1/8"). And then you put them through a planer (how deep did you set the planer to?). After all those processes, what's the final width (and depth) of each strip? Sorry if it's too detail hehe. But I genuinely trying to figure out the depth and width of frame strips that I should use. I normally just use 1 x 2 and cut to length. Thanks in advance!

    • @SimplySallie
      @SimplySallie  2 роки тому +5

      Hey! So we first only trim 1/16 off each side (to square). Then, we make 6 cuts which gives us 7 boards. Our blade is 1/8 inch. 6 x 1/8 is .75 (this leaves us with 4.625 inch board before we make our strips) 4.625 ÷ 7 = .6607. So this is how thick each board is. Right under 11/16th of an inch each strip. A 1 x 2 at the store is 3/4 thick (12/16), so the strips are barely under that. Just barely. I know its confusing but this is how it all plays out. Hope this helps. 😊

    The way you trimmed the side is dangerous? You are basically freehanding at that point.

    Find someone that knows hard drives. I had a hard drive that stopped working and I brought it to someone who fixes them and they couldn’t fix it but then my uncle took a look at it and opened it up and fixed it for me. 😀 maybe someone who’s really good at taking apart hard drives can try to fix it.

    Very unsafe ! Your hands should always be in front of the blade, never on the side or above.
