Just finished reading this book. Fantastic! Brings an interesting insight into the limitations of geography for some states. Read the book, you won't regret it! The chapter on the Arctic was fascinating and insightful.

Caspian report directed me here. I haven't read the book yet, but I will. I am just wondering what is Britain geopolitical reason for getting out of the UE, because I don't buy the reason that were thrown on the table. I see the 3 states from 1984 forming. Britain getting out of the UE, that will be swallowed by Russia, and getting close to US, Canada, Australia. I see Russia becoming an Eurasian State, and more than ever I see China dominating economically the South East of Asia. As always Africa will be up for grabs. Am I alone in thinking this?

Hello Moto, well, broad brush - I'd accept China dominating SE Asia, and USA, Canada, UK, etc remaining close, but disagree that a steadily weakening Russia will swallow EU.

I also disagree on the Russian possibility of absorbing Europe, the EU is weak militarily only because they trust that it’s in the USA’s best interest to keep the continent independent. And that will hardly change in the near future.
Otherwise the rest of your comparison with Orwell’s work is on point.

@@CanalGian2012 Only Time will eventually tell. The forced and discriminating use of greenpasses for Italian citizens to work recalls far too much 1984 and Chinese control systems to stay assured and speculate. It's not like commenting the Uefa Cup, sitting at a bar. The recently 'revived' conflict between Russia and Ukraine shows how truth is rare, and never simple. The big chess game has new players, none to be underestimated. Italy should have thought and chosen better allies and policies. The lessons of History, ah... forgotten, similarly to geography, supposing the Italian government ever read a page enough to understand. Hoping my country turn this tragically ludicrous page soon...I'm going through mr.Marshall's writings.
