31:24 - 31:33 "Other sports have what we call a competition yellow. I think we oughtta have that! When there ain't no competition, we throw the yellow!" 15 years later, the notorious Steve O'Donnell announces a 20-minute caution clock for the Truck Series.
This was when Gordon really got into championship form. Through the first 4 months, he had 1 win (though he came oh so close to 2) and was lagging a bit behind Dale Jarrett. Then he goes back-to-back here and Michigan, then goes back-to-back again at Brickyard/Watkins Glen.
Regardless it remained close until at least mid-July. Gordon crashed in the Pepsi 400 and his engine issue at Chicagoland (he finished 17th) brought Jarrett up to a tie with Gordon. They remained tied after Jarrett won at New Hampshire over Gordon (my first race in person BTW). However, after that, it seemed that Jarrett and Rudd would have issues on alternate weeks while Gordon kept chugging along. Jarrett crashed in mutli-car pileup at Pocono, Rudd blew a tire at Indy, Jarrett skidded off the track twice at turn 1 at the Glenn. By the time Gordon next had a bad race (Richmond where he got dumped by Marlin), he had a pretty commanding lead in the standings.
At 31:23, be careful what you wish for. DW jokingly suggests something NA$CAR does all too frequently these days, and it's one of many reasons I don't watch anymore. Thanks for uploading the real thing!
Love the little Monster Mash video at 16:01. Definitely saw it as a kid, because I distinctly remember some of those NASCAR clips and where they synced up with the song.

I hate competition cautions. Check your tire wear when you take 'em off the car during green flag runs, you numbnuts!(refering to NASCAR, not you, man)

Chris Kreager Too bad the Chase format robbed him of 7 titles.

1997-2006 was some of the best racing. The back of the cars were higher so the car tryna pass doesn't lose aero.
The race that started Jeff Gordon's momentum for his 4th & last championship.
This car was given to Jimmie Johnson the next year and he won this same race in 2002.

@hernan636 not true at all. If you don't like Motorsports why are you here?
As the years went by the guys seemed to let Darrell have the run of the broadcast booth snapping his mouth off to everything.
At 21:01 it looked like Dale Jr was in that wreck
No

That Darlington Incident Ruined his Career.
28:58 Doctor Who?
Tony Stewart's shock specialist then, was nicknamed Dr. Who.
Oh. I thought that he was making a reference to a Brittish sci-fi show
Yeah, that's what I thought as well.
@@karlsingleton6115 Most likely where the nickname came from
