I love this Kata Sensei Machida, thank you very much for sharing. This Kumite-Kata is in a way, very similar to Kickboxing, but it is still Karate. Brilliant!
I guess. I consider it "their" style and it fits for more of a MMA practitioner in my opinion. It keeps the Karate (Mostly shotokan) base and adjust it for MMA matches. I like it! Its different compared to the more traditional where practitioners will train for ippon or sanbon kumite and it doesn't utilize as many techniques as the Machida Karate does. Most of what you see in Ippon or Sanbon are Kizami & Gyaku zukis, mai geri, mawashi geri, and ura mawashi geri. You really see kage zukis (hook punches) and ura zukis (upper cuts) in the traditional sparring matches.
