Beautiful song but it always makes me cry a bit. Brian looks so lost as he is singing and John seems absolutely shattered. Thank you for reacting to this, I really do love this song, it is so well put together. The champagne glass on the piano is there because during every or nearly every show, Freddie would toast the audience so they thought it was appropriate to have it there for the video. I think that is Freddie's piano that Brian is playing. It is now in Brian's studio house in Surrey, England. Thank you for reacting to this wonderful and important song.

I will tell you...the first time I saw this, I was a little teary. But at the end when Deacy is just sitting there watching the other two sing, I lost it. I ugly cried. They all lost their best friend and brother, but I think Deacy hurts my heart the most because the others have been able to move on in whatever way they could, and according to those who know John, he never really has.

@@midnightrose2127 This is so true. My thought is that his breakdown was at least partly due to the fact that John lost his dad suddenly, when he was like 8 years old or something like that. It was such a trauma to him that he lost his memory for everything that happened before that day which means that John probably never was able to properly grieve for his father. Freddie took John under his wing and was like an older brother or a father figure to John. I think losing Freddie was like losing his dad all over again and just too much for John to process. I have never heard this confirmed other than John stating he lost all memory from before his dad's death but this is my take on the whole thing. I think John loved music and he certainly said a few times that he loved playing bass, so I don't think it was that he didn't want to do music anymore I just think that performing music poked at that most painful place in John's broken heart.

sometimes a song is not made to improve your mood, just to appreciate, grieve and reflect. I love this song, it makes me a part of being a fan, and missing the loss of a great entertainer that gave so much. I also appreciate the talent in the 3 remainder member of this talented incredible band.

As Roger said in an interview: „He's just part of the mental wallpaper, you don’t forget him ever. He’s been gone a long time but we never forget him, he is part of us. Brian and I, we always think he's in the corner and we think we know what he would think when we're talking.”
Freddie is happy now wherever he is, because younger generations are still impressed by his music, voice, talent, determination, perseverance and he thinks it's unbelievable.

Brian was a genius (as usual) writing this...so much Freddie symbolism. Brian said that "A hand above the water, an angel reaching for the sky" refers to the statue overlooking Lake Geneva at their recording studio in Montreaux. The words came to Brian the day they dedicated the statue. Also it was raining that day. "Is it raining in Heaven, do you want us to cry?"
"Flying too close to the sun" (which planet is closest to the sun?)
A lot of Roger's part is lyrics to some of Freddie's songs. "a tricky situation," and "paying every due" (from We Are The Champions)
Also, the camera is supposed to be Freddie walking around watching them sing to him. The glass of champagne on the piano is for Freddie.
This was the very last time John Deacon ever did anything with the other two. He lost it a bit when Freddie died, and he just said he could never do it again. And he's been living quietly ever since. These guys were 4 brothers in every sense of the word aside from DNA. They lost their brother and all dealt in different ways.

It must have been so hard for the rest of the band after Freddie died and making this especially for John Deacon who is like a younger brother to Freddie😔. Now this one brings tears to my eyes😭. But hell yeah Freddie makes a sensation and made his way through! he's on the top! And will always be the Greatest! There will never another Freddie! No one but you Freddie! Rest In Peace🥀💛.

As a side note, the drawing of Icarus at the very beginning and and is one Freddie did in art school. This was the last song John Deacon recorded with Queen, he looks so broken in this video; he and Freddie were good friends, he didn't want to continue making music without him.

As in the song that says....you were the one to get through....as such a great performer he found a way to reach those he entertained, took them up on the stage with him, let their voices sing out
with his, made us feel the words and the excitement of the ride....Freddie was special, still special and always will be special.

The very last song Freddie ever wrote was called A Winter's Tale. He was at his home in Switzerland during the winter and was losing his eyesight and going downhill..........but despite this he saw so much beauty around him........(this song is very special to his sister who did a small youtube video about it)...when he left Switzerland to return to London, he decided to cease taking his medication other than his pain killers and prepared to die. Another song you must react to is one of the last songs he ever sang.......and it was a difficult one to sing emotionally and technically; Brian wrote it but Freddie added some personal lyrics ......it is called the Show Must Go On. It is gorgeous, albeit sad. Freddie worked making music literally to his final days.......he could barely stand as he had lost a lot of his foot, but he pushed on to make music until he literally could not get up anymore.

That was the amazing thing about Freddie, he has people missing him, that weren't even born yet before he died. There was a divine aura about him and still touches people through video gaining fans daily and he's been gone what know almost 3 decades? imagine being someone in those crowds that saw him live? How he must have electrified them and through his live performances on the vids you can see he does. Historians say there were only two people that could influence a mass such as he did, the first being Hitler...grrrrr and the second being Freddie, thank the Lord he had a beautiful heart and soul, because he could have really done some damage if he been an evil man.

Diagnosis makes everything so concrete so real--sometimes ignorance is bliss; yes, denial is unhealthy and full of false hope. It takes time to confront reality---Diagnoses can be something the psyche is not ready to cope with. Cash, you're an intuitive and sensitive man, thank you 🙂

Sensational. Queen continues to transcend everything and spread so much love, joy, strength, creativity, confidence, and unity to all who listen! The timing of when they released the song also made it a tribute for Gianni Versace, Princess Diana, and anyone else whose life was cut tragically short. In case your wondering, the illustration is of Icarus from Greek mythology, which Freddie drew himself. It was clever of them to make the lyrical reference in "they're only flying too close to the sun." Brian and Roger have such beautiful and criminally underrated singing voices! "No one but you" truly showed that Freddie was like a brother to them, not just their frontman and that their bond was so strong, not even death could break it. Their sorrow is so clear in their faces, voices, and in every note they played/sang and were doing everything they could to not break down crying, not that I would blame them if they did. The close-up of the champagne glass on the piano was in homage to Freddie, who would sometimes toast the audience during special gigs. In 2019, Brian and his wife went to Freddie's birthplace of Zanzibar on pilgrimage to visit Freddie's childhood home, school, retrace some of his childhood steps and even visit the hospital where Freddie and his sister were born. Alongside making this video and recording the song, before he became a recluse, John participated in a Queen collaboration with Bejart+Ballet for life in honor of Freddie who was a ballet and opera enthusiast. Here is the making of video link. ua-cam.com/video/YdKYpoLfCA8/v-deo.html

This is a beautiful song. Adam Lambert does an amazing job, his own way. Hr is vocally amazing.
The Freddie Mercury tribute concert George Michael singing Somebody to love.
There's a band called Boyzone (yep a boyband). They had started vocals to a song Gave it all away. Stephen Gately have sime vocals, like at the start but he suddenly died. He was young. The song became a tribute to him.
I think honouring singers this way is perfect.

Although Freddy was gone, you can appreciate the talent of the backup vocals ftom Brian and in most songs Roger. It was unusual to have three band members that could take the lead when they had to. In certain live performances, you'll notice Roger really steps up in the background to give Freddie's voice a chance to take a little break. Such a talented group.

The screen that opens the video of the man with wings is Freddie's interpretation of Icarus (hence the lyrics "flying to close to the sun" - he had a degree in graphic design) that they enlarged for the video. The piano set up w/ the champagne glass etc was how Freddie's piano was set up.

Brian May and Roger Taylor don't do without studio work but definitely not touring, they would buy a band including voice and go the easy way. Just cover thrmself and celebrate (let themself).
