  • Crime scene photos were presented in court Thursday during former ballerina Ashley Benefield’s pre-evidentiary hearing. The photos show a bloody bedroom and multiple shell casings marked with evidence markers. The defense also presented photos showing Ashley with a swollen eye and cheek. Ashley has been charged with second-degree murder in her husband’s death. She claims she shot Doug Benefield in self-defense.

Yeah and she is still alive! Even if she was telling g the truth - which I don’t believe for a second - how is ok to take a life? Doug isn’t here to speak for himself and people have been victimized shaming him so much. It’s like people are taking their toxic or abusive relationship anger out on Doug too! Whut? I had worse experiences then what she described and I don’t wish any of them dead, would never have guns around that either!! There are cases of battered woman syndrome that are totally legit this is not one of them! Imo.

For more background about Ashley and Doug, I suggest you read the Vanity Fair (VF) article. A VT reporter was getting to know them before Doug was murdered. Ashley and Doug were both running after money their entire lives, and both were gun lovers looking for a 'made in heaven' relationship that didn't exist. The two victims are Doug's daughter Eva and Doug and Ashley's young daughter.

She tried to turn him against his own daughter tried to claim he was poisoning her no proof of any physical abusive trauma no prior reports of him beating on her other than punching a dog which is an animal not a human...I believe she knew the right buttons to push to lead up to this point so when she finally decided to murder him it would look justified

This sounds like a case of an overbearing mother who used her child just as much as she used her husband. I do not believe this was self defense and I also believe it was premeditated. I believe Ashley is a Domestic Violence victim. This case was so triggering and difficult for me. I am a survivor of Domestic Violence and from where I stand, it's a woman thing. I cannot tell you the amount of times I called the police on my ex. Never once did the police do anything to help me. Actually, the police never believed me. When he put me in the hospital, and I had to have 3 reconstructive surgeries to repair the damage he did to me... Do you want to know what the police did? They took him to the mental ward of the hospital because he was an Army vet and 'probably had PTSD issues that triggered him to attack me.' I wasn't even allowed to press charges against him.
There is no equality in this country. Men still own us, they still own our children. They are still given custody rights even if they are abusers. Courts place men's /father's rights over the rights of the abused, their ex's and children. They are allowed to do anything they wish to us, and we are only heard and believed once they end our lives...
This verdict was a kick in the face for DV victims. I am appalled at the amount of Domestic Violence victims that have been nasty about Ashley and dismissed her abuse as untrue and unbelievable.
