    Thank you for this video, I am actually making the same dress right now, and was looking on UA-cam to find someone making this dress! I am making it in a pure cotton fabric, blue with yellow lemon’s ( like D&G) , I made the bodice first in another fabric to make sure it would fit, glad I did because it needed quite some alterations, now hoping it will turn out well and I will have a nice summer dress.

    Thank you for the 'out and about' shots at the beginning. Love, love, love this dress. It looks gorgeous on you and the colour and fabric are sublime. Your videos are great and I learn a lot about how to make construction better so I don't end up hating the make at the end. Take care.

      My mother was visiting a couple weeks ago and I figured it would be fun to show her visiting me here in the city- she was so surprised to have been in the opening so long haha!
      I'm so glad the videos are helping-- that's exactly my goal. I actually have a running list of video ideas on my phone for topics to cover to hopefully get more information out there! Thanks again for watching :) [And don't hate your projects! Each one teaches you something different, I promise!]

    I love listening to your vlogs. You learn so much but the way you explain it makes me feel I'm there with you.With the large curved bust dart do you trim back the excess or leave it as it is?Another stunning dress,another totally engrossing vlog.

    • @VintageonTap
      @VintageonTap 7 років тому

      Hi Maureen! I'm so happy that the vids are inviting-- I really try and be as personable as I can :)
      Depending on the garment, I'll trim the dart. If the fabric is really thin, I'll trim it down, since the excess fabric will show through. If its on the medium/thicker side, like the linen I used, I knew it wouldn't be too much of an issue. You just have to be aware that if you trim the dart, you may have to finish that fabric edge because it may unravel. In some vintage dresses, interfacing is used to stabilize the fabric so it won't fray, or a hand overcast stitch.

    Hi Bianca, I would love to see more close ups of steps e.g. the grosgrain reinforced shoulder seam. It would be great if you could include more of them in your videos. Thanks

    • @VintageonTap
      @VintageonTap 6 років тому +1

      Thanks so much for the tip, Anna! It's actually super hard to decide what close ups to include and which ones to cut, especially when a dress can be so many steps! But, I do have one close up-ish (?? haha) photo of the grosgrain along the center front seam that is on my website:
      vintageontap.com/vintage-vogue-v8789/
      I want to eventually do a separate technique video about it, though, since it's in so many garments 🤔 I'll keep your feedback in mind, though! Thanks for commenting!

    Hello! First I just want to say thank you for this video! I really appreciate your tips on making this pattern. I'm planning to start this dress within the next two weeks. I noticed you didn't talk much about seam binding. Did you end up using seam binding tape or did you find it not to be necessary? I am not an expert at sewing clothes but I've done a few quilts. I have also made a skirt but this is my first dress. I will be watching your video on the waist stay next! Thank you!

    your dress is lovely, that colour is just stunning...i enjoyed watching the process and realling like the tips on reinforcing. i have a question, i wanted to make one similar with a sheer fabric and a seperate underlay. what is the best way of reinforcing the seams and zipper...i tried just double the fabric but it looked very obvious...im so worried the fabric will pull and tear because it is so sheer. i think its a georgette, black sheer with little black dots. thank you

    • @VintageonTap
      @VintageonTap 7 років тому

      Ohh- good question! To be honest, I would still double up the fabric. I did a similar technique on my Winter Dress (ua-cam.com/video/DTSdyymQoXA/v-deo.html) and even if it's "obvious", having multiple areas that have that detail really evens it out. You'll already get the doubling over of the georgette at the hem and the seams themselves, so it works out. I would also look into a suuuuuuper thin net interfacing, if you can find it.

    • @cherriesnhoney
      @cherriesnhoney 7 років тому

      Vintage on Tap thanks so much for reply and suggestion...i think im goin to do it again and be super precise with layers...i tried french seams but wow was it ever bulky...is there such a thing as net interfacing?....i will hunt for it:) thanks

    I have a amazing gorgeous dress pattern I think you would love, sew la did da blitz dress. I just bought it and made it up, it's adorable. I have large chest and it fits me perfect, I also made the lining without the sleeves and collar, tried that on before sewing it inside the dress, and even that looked stunning, so I'm going to make it that version too, no sleeves or collar, love your videos by the way, oh and Colin is my husbands name, mines Amanda, why his name is on my account shows I can sew, but at 52 my computer skills not so much ha, I used Amy butler fabric for my dress, so cute.

    I just bought this pattern to use to make a HoCo dress for my daughter, and also for if she gets a part in the Spring musical, which is Grease.
    According to the size chart, at her bust, she is a size 16, an 18 at her waist, and a 20 at her hip. Based on your video, and looking at the instructions for the pattern, I'm not so worried about the skirt part... I will probably just cut it at the size 20 line and try to make it work the best I can.
    However, for the bodice, I'm not really sure what to do... do I start at the size 16 line for the top part, and taper out to the size 18 line for the bottom part of the bodice? Or just cut the whole thing at the size 18 line and then take it in where needed? I've never altered a pattern like this before, although I have made garments without using a pattern, so I'm not a complete novice.
    I would really appreciate any suggestions or advice you have! Thank you!!!

    Love! This is definitely on my to do list thank you for the great instruction.
    Question: how do you recommend to calculate how much 'extra' fabric we cut to make gathers in skirts.

    • @VintageonTap
      @VintageonTap 5 років тому +1

      Hi Nelida!
      Generally for puffy skirts, I end up using the width of the fabric as a guide, and then take out from there. So for example, with my B6453, each skirt panel is almost 52" wide 😅 and there were THREE panels of that. So in terms of poof, 156" of fabric (+ seam allowance) is crazy, but super POOFY. Depending on your needs, you can pull back from there.

    Hello, I ordered this pattern last night from the vogue site. I ordered it in a plus size, but I think I'll have to grade it since the picture of the size chart showed measurements that where smaller than me, even in the plus size category. My question is: I am a size 24 in pants. Is this pattern true to size or does it run smaller?

    • @VintageonTap
      @VintageonTap 7 років тому +1

      Well- to be honest, the RTW pants size won't affect the fit of this garment, since besides the waist, the skirt is completely open and free. The size is more determined by the upper bust measurement, to make sure that the shoulders and neckline fit you best. The waist can be adjusted easily as a secondary adjustment 😃
      When you get a chance, take your upper bust measurement and then compare that to the pattern envelope when you get it. Use the upper bust and match it to the bust measurement of the pattern, and then go from there. You'll probably want to take a look at my fitting process for this dress if you haven't already: ua-cam.com/video/L9sOMwJ77k8/v-deo.html
      Hope this helps!

      I just finished the dress. I used view B. I had to grade the pattern to fit me. I also made a muslin and ended taking out 1.5" of the top of center front in the pattern (too much fabric). The buttons I used were too big so instead of 5, I used 3. they are lovely. I will make this dress again, but next time I Wil take out 1.5" of center back or make the shoulder darts larger, I'll figure it out. Again, too much fabric. Another thing I did is that I lined the bodice instead of using facings and cover the raw edges of the skirt with bias tape. I would love to send you a picture of my finished work. I am very proud. Also, thank you. I traced the pattern and the original is unharmed.

    Hi, did you make the full bust adjustment with the cut on sleeve attached, or did you cut the sleeve off the pattern then attach it.

    • @VintageonTap

      For the New Look 6217 I would cut the sleeve off, do the FBA, and then tape the sleeve back on afterwards.
