Honestly, I'm a Lego "purist" but these figures look really good, especially the Raimi Goblin. What I'm most impressed with however, which has been one of my biggest criticisms of Lego for a while, is the opacity of the printing on these figures. The most recent Spider-Man figure we've gotten (the one from the Bugle set, and other smaller sets) has such bad printing on it's arms. The red looks almost brown, as opposed to the bright vibrant red of the knock off figures, and at this point I really feel like Lego has no excuse.
I imagine durability-wise, the official figures can withstand more play and use. But for display, the customs and knock-offs really do outshine the official figures some times. My Marvel minifigure board is 99.9% official (with a custom Stan Lee figure in the center) but my collection of knock-offs is really growing. I just find enjoyment in the wildly varying quality. Some are hideous, but other are epic.
What I like is that the knock offs honestly put more effort into the figures than the official ones. They have more printing and most of the time just do things that lego doesn’t do
Alot of these knockoffs are better than the official figures. The printing, that you may think is "busy", I think is actually really impressive, and really helps make them great figures
Some of these really got my attention as a spiderman fan myself but I can't help but notice that my nwh lizard figure I got came with an ordinary minifigure legs and not the faun legs like you have in the video 😔
I’m one of a kind that way hahaha. I feel when there’s too much detail, it becomes visual noise, making it hard for your eyes to take in the design of the figure
I’m going to be honest. ALL the knockoffs looked better than the officials imo. Real Legos have better plastic but have nowhere near the detail the customs do. Unless you’re playing with your legos, I honestly don’t know why anyone wouldn’t buy the customs. Most people seem to just display their legos so the quality isn’t as important since they’re not being played with. There’s no way you’re telling me the official TASM2 fig looks better. The custom is basically the official but with more detail on the legs and arms. I don’t collect legos but honestly, anyone who prefers the appearance of the real versions is lying to themselves due to the price they paid. When you say “it wouldn’t pass as a real fig,” Idk whether you mean that as a good thing or a bad thing lol. I take it more as lego is too lazy to make the figs look this good. Anyways, I watched one lego video and now my feed is filled with them lol.
Hahah sorry about your feed! I think then I say “it wouldn’t pass for a real figure,” sometimes yeah it IS because there’s just way more detail on the knock off than a real minifigure. Sometimes, the print quality on the knock off is poor or misaligned. And other times, the art style doesn’t match LEGO’s aesthetic. I agree that knock offs deserve more love because there are some INCREDIBLY talented artists behind them. The figures with original designs can be amazing. And knock offs can certainly improve on the original figures (like Garfield’s Spider-Man). That’s why I like collecting knock offs as well as real figures.
Most people prefer the official because they’re usually very valuable after a few years, while fakes have no value because they’re so common. Additionally, these are one of the few fakes which are actually passable. Almost every fake you see is completely rubbish, poor quality prints, weird colours, plenty of inaccuracies, and no quality control. These are pretty good for the most part, but even still there are some misprints or shortcomings Lego would succeed.
I really like the LEGO ones with less details, it looks better most of the times, if they do it 100% accurate all the time it’s feels… top much. It’s more simple, it looks like the movie one, it’s great
Ryan you’re right about the first figure being from comics, in Spider-Man full circle issue 1 after being shot out of a space ship, Spider-Man inflates his suit which looks exactly like the figure.
I did an update to lego Vulture to have it's end feathers much articulated, and made Iron-Spider-Man's legs be much better, the designs in the video were great.
I will typically get a knockoff of a figure for customization purposes. It's cheaper to destroy and modify a knockoff than it is to do it to an official minifig.
I’m so happy I watched this. I literally bought all of these figures about 2 weeks ago and am still waiting for it to be delivered. You just made me very happy I ordered them
Imo the second Andrew Spider-Man figure looks more like the actual character from the web lines, the respected spiders on the suit and the colors to represent the scarlet red and dark blue sell it for me. The only thing I would alter would be the color of the webbing to a dark metallic gray or just dark gray than what the KO company chose.
Imagine being a billion dollar company making people's childhoods better, just to have a off brand company make better Minifigures, to be honest if I got one of those by mistake I wouldn't be to mad cause the Minifigures look better than the official ones.
Thanks man for reviewing these.. i my self was trying to order some but since they only showed limitted parts of the minifigure i wasn;t sure about buying them..but now i can buy them with full confidence keep out the good work man 😁😄
The first Goblin you showed and the Tobey Maguire suit are just amazing, The Andrew Garfield was amazing. I wish they made a figure for the first movie suit. The Tom Holland suit is just better
Kinda feel bad for Emily, since she puts quite a bit of effort on her WM minfigures. Feels unfair to just call them knock-offs, especially when her No Way Home minifigures are leaps and bounds better than the official ones.
I said this in another comment but it's worth repeating. I'm coming to the conclusion that if a unlicensed is wholly original in design, I'm calling it a "custom" from now on. If it's trying to mimic a pre-existing design, it's a "knock-off." Fair?
