I think Luka's cards are valued exactly where they should be. He is very popular with the fans, and a player's popularity has just as much to do with determining his card values as does a player's on-court performance and achievements. Popularity creates demand. And yes, a catastrophic injury would cause his card values to plummet, but that can be said of any player.
I disagree with luka having similar game to Westbrook, I would say Lebron. The way they can control an offense and get to their spots on the floor. But it’s always hard to compare players but most of us sports fans do lol. I prefer optic over prizm also
Correct. Just purely in statistical comparison. I actually said their games are different. 14:57 "Who do Luka's stats compare to more than anyone else? Not necessarily his game...just his stat lines."
In an era where there are more superstar guards than ever before, Luka was named All-NBA First Team in three of his first four seasons, joining Larry Bird, George Gervin and Duncan and as the only players to earn three-or-more All-NBA honors within their first four seasons since the ABA/NBA merger (1976-77)... So yes, I'd say he has the potential to be the next transcendent superstar in the hobby and has earned his price premium
Luka has started his career on pace to pass lebron in all time scoring as well as assists, rebounds and steals... Nobody else is on pace to do that!! His value should be much more than every other young player in the NBA right now!!
Luka is a stud no doubt! But looking at his body.. he has some weight on his frame and he takes some impact..I worry that he can stay injury free for next 5-10 years. He doesn’t seem to have the same dedication to keeping his body in shape every year like Lebron has done. Who knows??? I hope he can keep it up!
Love these, can't wait for next week's! Personally prefer Select for its live-action shots although its image has suffered. I don't know why Prizm Basketball can't have action shots as well like other sports.
I’m not saying one way or the other… 🤔 sure sounded like you said the other guys were better investments. Not saying the analysis is wrong, but yes there’s a premium on Luka, and he’s got high expectations. He’s 23, so he’s got 10 years to get there.
How does that compare to Tatum? They are basically the same age. Would you rather Tatum for 1/5-1/10 of the price of Luka, or Luka? Celtics are favourites in the east, mavericks are 5th favourites in the west. Who wins a title first?
It's similar to sports betting and upside vs downside. You can feel certain a fighter will win a UFC fight...doesn't mean betting on him to win is your best bet if the odds are -560. Or if you think a company is a great bet to be a Fortune 50 company someday...buying their stock doesn't necessarily make sense if it's already significantly overvalued. So my point is that there are only 1-2 players per era who hold significant premiums over other players. Bill Russell, Wilt and Kareem Bird, Magic Jordan, Kobe LeBron, Steph Those are the guys who command the most money. The rest of the NBA 75, in spite of being the greatest of all time, go for a fraction of those guys in their relative eras. So IF Luka does not wind up as a consensus top 2 player of this era, there's very little hope of his cards even holding their current value, let alone going up in value over time. Think about Vince Carter, Blake Griffin, D-Rose and so many others who were EXPLOSIVE and massively popular in their first few years...and have fallen tragically in price since then.
Luka is a "hold" for his prices to soar he needs awards & championships. He's also on a mid team if he gets traded to LA Lakers or Boston his fan size will double & RC prices will peak. 📈 But if he's on the team & doesn't win then his fate will be...💀📉
Wings > Bigs. This is a basic fact of NBA fandom. Guys like Joker, Embiid and even Giannis who plays more like a modern Shaq are all handicapped within the hobby from the start. Luka also has that "swag", aka he's a good looking, charismatic star wing ala Jordan and Kobe. The key also being he has that elite tier, fun to watch production to go with that other "eye appeal". This gives him the "wanna be him" marketing factor from the viewing public. His production, build, role and age have made him the defacto Lebron heir. He's the obvious speculative "next guy" given all the factors going for him to be the next hobby darling. But I remember when Grant Hill, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady were viewed as the next MJ'esque hobby darling for similar reasons. If he disappoints and doesn't win titles there is certainly plenty of room to fall. Especially for those higher priced higher pop types like the psa 10 prizm silvers.
I think he has all the time to be a great but he’s overhyped at the moment. It’s cool to see him score all these points in one game but he needs to win a chip first or at least take his team to the finals. I look at him like Jayson Tatum. Very good player but needs to get over that hump of winning a championship. Giannis has a chip and doesn’t get that much love.
Please do another for 2018 Optic, Select and Mosaic and others please. Why is Luka Expensive? 1. Competitive and Fun to watch. 2. Charm, lots of people really like Luka's playstyle. 3. Really high IQ. 4. He have magic touch on the ball.
That a Russell Westbrook collector is also a data analyst by trade almost made my head explode. The amount of daily cognitive dissonance that man must feel to cheer for one of the most inefficient players in the NBA over the past 3 years…
Most players wind down in their careers and don't play well at the end, unless they retire early. Russ has certainly fallen off sharply compared to his insane production earlier in his career. For me, he was one of the most exciting and explosive players in the NBA to watch...but his antics and whiny behavior turned me off a lot. But there was a good 7-8 year stretch where there wasn't a single player more dangerous in the open court than Russ.
@@MarketMovers He was (and is!) explosive, athletic, and exciting to watch. My comment is about his efficiency and he has been wildly inefficient throughout his career. Career 30% from 3, 47% on 2s on a huge volume of shots. Never had an eFG above 50% in ANY season (for comparison, Lebron’s only season below 50% was his rookie season). Huge amounts of turnovers. Space cadet on D. I recommend looking up the “Russell Westbrook stealing rebounds” UA-cam video. Hilarious to watch. Steven Adams is an amazing teammate for the amount of times he let RWB grab a rebound out of his hands.
What if there are more people collecting basketball cards over the past? I think baseball and football card collecting has been historically higher- basketball popularity has increased exponentially therefore the future collector will have more success
the question is will the number one face of nba be a non-American in the future? Such as Giannis or luka even though they r the best right now! So I’m still rooting for my Tatums!, let’s go JT!! 😅🙌🏻😇🙏🏻
Luka's value is baked in as if he has won 3 rings
I think Luka's cards are valued exactly where they should be. Popularity creates demand. And yes, a catastrophic injury would cause his card values to plummet, but that can be said of any player.
Any active player yes. Can't be said about mj or kobe!
I disagree with luka having similar game to Westbrook, I would say Lebron. The way they can control an offense and get to their spots on the floor. But it’s always hard to compare players but most of us sports fans do lol. I prefer optic over prizm also
I don’t think he said gameplay, I think he was simply comparing their statistics overall
Correct. Just purely in statistical comparison. I actually said their games are different. 14:57 "Who do Luka's stats compare to more than anyone else? Not necessarily his game...just his stat lines."

His value should be much more than every other young player in the NBA right now!!
He also played on a team with no support so he had to do all that. Luka now has Kyrie who will do lots of that, so I doubt Luka keeps up that pace
@Jason Williams his scoring may take a small hit but he will get 10 assists a game now for sure.
Centers and power forwards don’t hold any value. Putting Jokic and embiid is not a good comparison
Luka cards are too expensive, I bought Lebron rookies at better deal in similar part of his career.
The cost to rip has increased exponentially as well
Luka is a stud no doubt! But looking at his body.. he has some weight on his frame and he takes some impact..I worry that he can stay injury free for next 5-10 years. 2000s topps chrome basket ball sets are FIRE
In terms of accomplishments honestly ???? Heck no
Love these, can't wait for next week's! Personally prefer Select for its live-action shots although its image has suffered. I don't know why Prizm Basketball can't have action shots as well like other sports.
Totally agree. I love action photos over rookie photo shoots or photoshopped images.
If you look at the MVP ladder from 1-4. None of them were US born. This is the 5th season that Native players not winning MVP -.-
It's definitely a new era, and the NBA has become global.
Only the top 2 aren’t US? Tatum is 3
Luka is way overpriced. Not a smart buy at current market averages
I’m not saying one way or the other… 🤔 sure sounded like you said the other guys were better investments. Not saying the analysis is wrong, but yes there’s a premium on Luka, and he’s got high expectations. He’s 23, so he’s got 10 years to get there.

Luka cards are the new Vince Carter cards
That's what I am worried about.

I pulled a Silver Doncic when the product came out - It got a BGS 9.5 and i sold it for just under $10 000CDN - So it used to be even crazier!

Popularity is a huge value in sports cards, plenty of cases where popularity is over stats
100% the germans bought a lot of the dirk cards, and now are buying luka, cause he is a maverick too. easy money for those smart germans
What if there are more people collecting basketball cards over the past? I think baseball and football card collecting has been historically higher- basketball popularity has increased exponentially therefore the future collector will have more success

Lol. Why hate on Luka?
11:57 not hating at all. I really like Luka.
Lukas also 23
