I have two queen anne style arm chairs that I inherited from my mom and she purchased them from an English friend in 1965 or so. I really have not seen the exact style in any pictures . They do look hand carved because the lines and comparisons are not exact. I would love to get more information about them.
This site just popped up on my computer and I had great hopes for it, but the pictures shown usually had nothing to do with the description making it quite confusing. I have a lot of antiques including chairs (2 of which I just did a light restoration on) and would like an idea as to value. The chairs are a matched pair of Charles Stickley rockers in oak with leather seats.
I have a hard maple Captain's beautiful, like new, original finish, very heavy, circa 1921...W H Gunlock Furniture, New York ..no modern screws, etc, all very tightly together/ Value
Hi Irene, it would be hard to give you information without seeing it. It may be worth reaching out to an Auction house or other Antique specialist that may be able to help you with an evaluation. Thanks so much!
what do black forest 19th century dining chairs with barley twist frame, carved grapes and grape leaves and original leather seats in good condition run per chair?
I have one that definitely looks or pre dates 1920 or early 1900 and has a curved legs with a yellow cushioning and looks like a fancy victorian chair for guests to sit in it has no hand rests and the back of the chair is a yellow cushioning as well.
Hi Sharon! Caning can certainly be an expensive repair to take on... In our area, caning by hand usually is priced per hole so can really add up fast. However, Flint and Horner is a nice brand and if you love the chair, we always say it's worth it! Thanks for watching! :)
Hi Jane! A nice Nichols and Stone Chair can be worth anywhere from $100 to $500 if its in the right condition (and of course, venue!). Sounds like you have a keeper though. I love old Windsor chairs. Thanks for writing!
I've come across these what looks like to me EXTREMELY old Rattan hand made chairs with I think old aluminum or pot metal solid accents for feet, ears, and hands. Can anyone help me with info on these?
I have six Jacobean dining room chairs that go with its matching dining room table and matching buffet. They're stunning. I believe i am missing the hutch to complete the entire set. My dining chairs all appear to be hand carved but they syo not have the original fabric on the seats.

I have several pieces of furniture that my parents purchased in an auction with the house they purchased in Pa over 50 years ago. The dining room set does have a paper tag under the table that when we researched the company name found out the company was sold to another company before the civil war. Can you suggest any books that might help me date this furniture? I also have 4 tables and a chair they purchased that I would like to know what type they are. I love antiques but don't know much about the different period.
HI Loretta! I am sorry for the late reply. It sounds like you have some great pieces to research. I think "The Field Guide to American Antique Furniture" is a great starter book. I also have another great book resource that I found at Wonder Books, but I can't quite remember the title. I am away from home until Wednesday but I will get it to you when we return. It is a great resource because it is filled with pictures, so it really helps define different styles and movements... Thank you for commenting and I will be in touch soon. Best, Rachel
@@lorettatompkins6208 It is called The Antiques Directory Furniture" by Judith and Martin Miller. It is an excellent book with tons of information and photos. Thanks again and best of luck!
Help! I just purchased a gorgeous chair with intricately carved cherubs, a large, heavy medallion, swooping, low wood arms, upholstered seat, original toed springs, large claw feet in front, Queen Anne legs, bowed front, and wood fiddle back. I can’t seem to date it at all! Victorian? Georgian? Help!
Sounds interesting, a picture or two would tell a lot. Additionally, the type of wood, and or woods, that it is made of. It generally sounds Victorian, but I might be able to attribute it for you.
Hi Kerry. An antique chair with ball and claw feet could be worth a few hundred dollars, or it could be much less... or much more! It really depends on the age, style, maker and condition. You may want to bring a photo to an auctioneer or appraiser to get an idea. Thanks for watching!
Hi Janet! We see dainty Edwardian chairs go from anywhere from $100 to $600 on average. It really depends on the condition of both the frame, and the upholstery. Also the quality of any carvings or inlay. Thank you for watching!
True! They were used even in ancient Rome. But I think the point we were trying to make is that most people can tell a modern screw from a very old one. Sorry for the confusion! Thanks Rusty!
Great ! thank you ! Very helpful !
So glad it was helpful, Lina! :)
