Thank you for this. Tbh haven't seen many youtube channels that showcase this stuff. And let's be honest, a realistic young, black opinion on moving to a new place. I'm graduating this year and looking for new city. Love Manhattan, but you made me scratch it off my list. It looks much too small!
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to watch. The city isn’t small- it’s the apartments. You have to pay the big bucks & even then, you’re still getting a fraction of the space in comparison to many parts of the country. But to live in NYC is unlike any other place in the world, and I stand by that. I’m happy here. It’s expensive, but I wanted it so bad, and I got myself here, & every day I’m motivated to do/achieve more because of it. New York is not everyone’s dream, and it definitely isn’t for everyone! But it’s my reality & I’m happy to bring a fresh, realistic perspective to this process for people to see. Good luck on your search for your future home!
I'm really enjoying your series! Since the NYC rental market moves very quickly , if you find a great deal, are you able to move earlier? Landlords typically do not agree with move in dates that are longer than 30 days out unless they need to make some repairs. The longer an apartment is empty, the more money they lose. If you're looking for a March move in date, you'll probably have more inventory the last 2 weeks of January and most of February.
im glad you're liking the series: thanks for being here! yes, it is flexible in terms of move-in date. I still have alot more to look at before making my final decision! and yes, most likely in february will be when im formally applying to apartments
the 2nd one is honestly really nice! i think the pocket doors are something i could possibly get used to. its just that i have never seen them growing up so its foreign to me. but i guess if you have curtains up it can add the privacy element! do you live in nyc?
@@nk.medaniyou could also add some sort of cling to the window parts to add privacy. I used one that makes little rainbow prisms to add privacy to my kitchen window that's only a narrow courtyard away from my neighbors
@@ssRasputina oh that’s exciting!! & very nice of you to help her out in her search! I have 3 other videos so hopefully you can get some more ideas from those videos! Feel free to leave comments with any questions!
2 and 3 are studios that they just added a wall to. And they could have cleaned and glazed those tubs. These apartments are trifling. You can do wayyyyyy better.
Sounds like you’re new here! I’m doing a series and looking at a ton more apartments! As you probably also know, NYC created those “flex walls” all the time for apartments. And if you heard in the video, I called out that I’m not a fan of how the building shows that apartments not super clean (like they would when you actually sign the lease, which is a requirement).
you're not understanding. the way you came off was very off-putting from the beginning. saying I can do way better instead of simply acknowledge that i am STILL looking and im at the beginning of my search, seems like you're trying to put someone down when you don't even know them. saying "as i said" like you are in control of this account and my responses?? when i gave you a very common sense initial response, you completely disregarded it to state "as i said". Its weird. youtube is a space where people are supposed to feel comfortable and i am sharing MY journey. you didn't have to say anything but you chose to, so i am responding because this is my channel. So thanks for stopping by & good luck!@@Aka_jada
Totally feel this!! It’s the realization that sucks I swear! You know what you want but it’s not within reach (yet)!! Keep looking because things pop up every day!
no manhattan is ridiculous atp. I feel like finding a 2 bed in the 2500-3500 range and splitting the rent in half with a roommate is my only option. I plan on moving there Dec 2024
It’s WILD. The market is very up & down but surprisingly, right now is still the best time of the year to look, as the prices are only going to get higher 😕
I recently discovered your channel. I have watched a lot of apartment hunting videos, and I have to say that yours are some of the best I’ve seen. I can’t wait to actually see which one you choose and watch your moving process.
Hi! Thanks for leaving a comment & welcome - happy you’re here! It’s been really fun looking at all these apartments & learning about what I like/don’t like in the process. I still have a few months before my lease is up, so definitely hope you subscribe for the future videos on the process! :)
I put blackout curtains on my bedroom windows lol so I know I am def an outlier when it comes to natural light in a space. good luck with the rest of the hunt!@@nk.medani
But trulyyyy haha I’d love nothing more!!! It literally was a DREAM!! But I couldn’t ignore the biggest con (no windows downstairs at all. & the upstairs windows were still technically underground so not much light gets in. It’s a STUNNING space though!!!
@@LaurenOrion yes exactly my sentiments!! I’m really impacted my seasonal d*pression so I know this ultimately wouldn’t be worth it to me overall, even though it is stunning! It feels like there is at least one drawback with anywhere though, so I am trying to discern what I am truly willing to sacrifice or what I am completely ok with not having!
Jah & Jahes love sista. Thank you for another great apartment hunting video. I am so grateful for your insights because I had heard about the fact that there was a good time to look for apartments in NYC but I didn't know that it was between December and March. I feel empowered with the knowledge and I will be more diligent about my search. I don't but my best friend is moving there in February, so I've been watching apartment tours on her behalf to get a better idea of what's out there.

I like the last apartment
me too! it was so big!! what was your favorite part about it?
Me too, especially the kitchen!
@@bonniepwtf right!! i want this kitchen so bad!! haha
One thing you don't do is give price
Yes I do!! It is at the beginning of every apartment I show. You have to look at the bottom right corner when I say “apartment 1” “apartment 2” etc
Im also looking for an apt in NYC. I’ve realized that my wants and my budget aren’t aligning, even in Brooklyn lol. This place is so damn expensive!
Totally feel this!! It’s the realization that sucks I swear! You know what you want but it’s not within reach (yet)!! Keep looking because things pop up every day!
I hate three things about apartments in New York: dark hallways, stairs, and the overall look of the apartments. Thanks for showing us around.

I’m thinking of living in the Jersey City area instead but looking at streeteasy, max $2500 showed two places 💀. It’s crazy.

The 3k apartment is the size of a regular apartment
And that’s New York for ya! Haha
LOVE apt #4!! But I'm confused why you are moving. 🤔It sounds like you are happy in your current place.
