Does the mic on the 5p/5x have Ai powered noise cancelation like the 7p? That is my main concern as people all tell me that they can hear my air conditioner in the background on my current headset.
The mic on the Arctis Nova 5's the best one SteelSeries has ever done for a headset. They must've learned a lot after making the Alias standalone mics.
The mic sounds so good but what’s killing it is it picks up too much background noise. Can’t wait to see how the mic sounds on the Atlas Air! That’s what I’m going for

After testing the Nova 5x and my other headsets bluetooth just has too much latency for gaming in my opinion. 2.4 works pretty well. I did find this headset with the least latency in 2.4 mode compared to my Arctis 7 headset. My Arctis 7 headset does fit over my ears better but the Nova 5x does have a lot of things that are better. I need a way to plug the dongle into my Rog Ally and also have a way to charge it at the same time. The dongle will not fit right now mainly because of the case on my Ally and volume buttons.
I've been looking to replace my old Logitech G X pro wireless headset and have been flip flopping between the Audeze maxwell and the Arctis Nova pros. Thought going higher end would be the best since I've never really had a higher end headset. Idk if I should just stick to the mid range with these or pull the trigger on something higher end now. If only the mic was better on the Nova pros, it would make for a much easier decision.
Sound will be considerably better, but by no means are midrange set a slouch in audio. Also thinking of the mic, if you really need a top notch mic, you'd probably need a desk mic and are streaming or recording for other content. If not, a mic on any midrange or high end set will be suffice for game/Discord chat. You won't be hearing yourself anyway. Really, if should boil down to the additional features. I swung to the Nova Pro Wireless because of better range as I galivant throughout my house while listening to music or UA-cam, but also have simultaneous Bluetooth so my ADHD brain can consume IG reel/TikTok at the same time while listening or gaming.
@r3ikobomb the features for simultaneous Bluetooth is super appealing because my job usually has me on call all day, but I game in my downtime, so sometimes it's hard to take a phone call when I'm in game. I'm heavily leaving towards the nova pros because of that feature alone. How is the mic quality for phone calls though? Is it bad?
Nova 7’s sound incredible. I swapped my pro wireless for them as they have more depth and fullness which I like as I play single player now not just apex. The price is inbetween the 5’s and pros. The pros are better in the highs for sure though.
I plan on holding out until they make the changes in Nova 7s. I use the simultaneous Bluetooth function a lot. Being able to game while sitting through those zoom trainings is a lifesaver 😂
@@Amaz1ngSp1derC Don't think they will be able to since the Nova 5 uses Bluetooth 5.3 but the Nova 7 uses 5.0. I think because it is different hardware in regards to that it can't just get updated via software. I just got both the 7 and 5 and the range on the 5 is much better than on the 7, definitely because of 5.3
Hey, I think it's great how you design your videos and the product in detail. Greetings from Germany. Now to my question, is this headset very glasses-friendly? I have the Stealth 600 Gen3 and it presses on my glasses frame, but this is not the case with the Recon 200 Gen2. And is the sound accurate despite the glasses? Because I noticed that when I wear the glasses the sound is distorted (less bass, the highs have a tinny sound) I've only had my glasses for a week and the frame on the ears is higher and thicker and is made of plastic. Thank you for your helpful answers. Because then I would send the Stealth 600 back or sell it to a friend and get this one. An adjustable EQ is always important to me with bass boost, I love bass 🙂
Would be cool to have an app for the Nova Pro Wireless. I play on PS5 & it would be a bit more convenient to scroll through presets on my phone than plug into my Mac or play around with the DAC IMOP.
I have been using an Arctis 1 Wireless headset for years now and love it. I am interested to see how people feel about the head band fit vs the old school fit of the arctis 1? Not going to lie the upgraded mic is one of the selling points for me. Anyone come from an Arctis 1 to this headset? Would love your thoughts/opinions. Thank you!
On xbox the worked perfectly fine the first few times, but now when i join an xbox party I can’t hear my friends nor can they hear me, even though my game audio is working fine. Anyone have a fix for this?
Does the mic on the 5p/5x have Ai powered noise cancellation like the 7p and the pros do? This is a huge selling point for me because my friends always tell me they can hear my air conditioning in the background during game sessions.
@rocketgirl I have not. I dont use Discord. Just standard private chat on PS5 when playing COD. I have the older 7p that first came out and the mic picks up even the slightest pin drop. Thanks for the suggestion though.
@@djstutterchicago87There are a couple work arounds but they all require you to spend money or are just a hassle to install. Best bet would be to sound treat your room with cheap foam squares to minimize reverb
Hey man, I just got my Arctis Nova 5, but Engine refuse to show it as a device, what could be the best option to solve this problem? Everything works fine but since it's not in my Engine list I can't sync my EQs with phone and stuff and it's pretty sad. Have you encountered this ever?
I ended up returning these. They sound way lower than the HS80s I have. I even tried the GG custom profile for games and it sounds too muffled. Also, if feels too isolated and became uncomfortable after a few hours of use (ie ear pain). I feel like the sound has no clarity compared to the HS80. The best way I can describe it wearing heavy bass units (ie Crushers) causing discomfort and the audio is stifled and low. As much as i hate the HS80, mainly due to iCue, they work fine and i can use them for hours for fun and work (Teams meetings and watching corporate videos with no iCue running on the work laptop). IDk, may be i should have gone with the 7, ???
Damn bro that sucks. Maybe you got a faulty unit. I've been reading comments and watching a ton of videos nobody but you has brought that complaint up. There's been a couple complaints but not that one in particular. It's a shame. I'm thinking of buying this over the new Sony Ult headphones
This is exactly what I'm asking myself right now. I don't even do gaming that much and mostly need a wireless headset for working from home. These "corporate MS Teams certified" headsets are pretty expensive, not really comfortable (I need over-ears) and mostly use Bluetooth. Last week I decided to look for gaming headsets, that are relatively cheap (~$150) and don't look too much like gaming. Just yesterday I saw Technes review on the Pulse Elite and they looked and sounded promising. When searching through Amazon I came across the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 and they look also pretty decent. This is the first review of many that I'm about to watch, to finally decide which headset I'll choose.
on playstation you can use spotify while gaming at the same time, I listen to podcasts while playing games that don't really need sound like NHL and it works fine with my cheap PS4 headphones so I'm guessing that it would work fine with these!
okay so at first they felt a little small around my giant ears. got wicked cushion ears and headband. they are still little off. love the headset as whole but any advice in what adjustments to headset i should try to make fit a bit better? bottom of ear does not go in cushion (big ears) pressure a little high and a bit warm. so slight discomfort. band is set to bottom 2 wholes with wicked cushion band. wondering if someone has magic touch on some positioning to try out. my blackshark pros were great feeling but got the famous top of earcup hinge snapping. so trying these. if i can fix the remaining comfort would be perfect as they are really light which are nice.
Great review. Why do you consider this the new $140 sweet spot? Wouldn’t the PS5 Elite beat this out? Planner magnetic drivers Better mic ANC Simultaneous Bluetooth I don’t see how these rank better?!?
The Pulse Elites don’t have ANC and the mic is actually worse!! I have the Elite and might make the jump to these cause they seem better for a lot of reasons!
year ago i got the 7X and for me it wasn't comfortable at ALLL and since i never wanted to try any Steelseries anymore and i won't risk it and buy this one too feel the same
What would you chose between nova 5 or nova 7, i have a warranty coupon that can buy one full price and dont know what to chose cause I dont see very differences
i decided to jump on this headset because of the microphone, i really wanted to get the nova pro wireless but the mic is so awful for a streamer like me. It sounds just like im on speaker on a phone call. I wish the nova pro wireless had this microphone.
Thanks for the review. I think that its a nice pair of headphones but i have a gaming laptop and im scared that the dongle is too large and i wong be able to plug in my mouse beacouse the usb a port is next to the c
Any white noise or static? Always had that issue with the novas. With the new turtle beach stealth series coming out I’m not sure which one will work for me
@@TheTechne yeah I’ve tried that still is a issue I get with my tinnitus. Been using the arctis 1 for awhile now so wanna upgrade. guess I’ll try both the turtle beach stealth 500 (2024) and the nova 5.
Can somebody tell me how well sidetone works with this headset? Bc with the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless it barely works, you can’t really hear yourself if your firmware is up to date, even set to high, unless the mic is directly in your mouth.
I would like to know something though I have some issues with my current headset I want to know if they fixed some of those issues on this new pair like the mute button if you press in on it too many times I would just end up being shot already that was on the Arctics Nova pro wireless but I also have some static issues with it sometimes
Question? Can I Bluetooth this headset to my PC and have it connected to my Xbox to hear both audios at the same time? R is that only capable with the 7s?
I think the Nova Pro would naturally sound better as it’s twice as expensive, but as of which one gives you a better value, the Arctis Nova 5 packs a lot considering its price, it’s gonna give you probably the best “price to performance” out of any other headset You just gotta ask yourself whether you actually need some of the more premium stuff on the Nova Pro and whether the difference in sound quality is worth paying twice as much as the Nova 5
I had the Nova Pros for a month and they sounded good but had quality control issues! Just picked up the Nova 5s and I’m impressed the EQs are insane!! The FIFA preset for sports games is so immersive!! They’re also really good for FPS games! Honestly I think these sound better than the Pros and they’re half the cost!
I’ve got the 7 and to much pressure on sides of my head and have another steel series on Xbox with same issue. Both have metal frame. Maybe I’ll give this plastic one a try. Any other suggestions for someone with a large bald head? Lol.

They finally fixed their mics! Finally! Now we just have to wait for it to come to the rest of the lineup…
Amazing review. Knowledgable and honest, well spoken. Got these for the girlfriend in white for christmas
I've been using the nova pros wired since launch and they're by far the best headset I've ever used.
Thank you Techne 👏🏿👏🏽👏🏻
I use the Nova 7X. Did the whole Nova line-up get the update to use the phone app?
No, only this cause it has a new chip in it
no, but I hope they make an update too them all. But will more than likely be just for future releases
Hopefully should I upgrade from the 7p to 5 ?
Because I noticed that when I wear the glasses the sound is distorted (less bass, the highs have a tinny sound)
I've only had my glasses for a week and the frame on the ears is higher and thicker and is made of plastic. Thank you for your helpful answers. Because then I would send the Stealth 600 back or sell it to a friend and get this one. An adjustable EQ is always important to me with bass boost, I love bass 🙂

I'm finding it hard to decide between the nova 4 and the nova 5. Since I only use pc the mobile app doesn't really matter for me.
Would be cool to have an app for the Nova Pro Wireless. I play on PS5 & it would be a bit more convenient to scroll through presets on my phone than plug into my Mac or play around with the DAC IMOP.
There is the companion app for that tht you can change any settings from your phone while also playing on PS5
Thank you!
I'm also using Arctis 1 wireless and posted the nova 5. I will give you my impressions after I receive the product.
nova 5 having a better mic than the nova pro makes me wonder if they’ll upgrade the pro
On xbox the worked perfectly fine the first few times, but now when i join an xbox party I can’t hear my friends nor can they hear me, even though my game audio is working fine. Anyone have a fix for this?
Did you ever find a fix for this?
Are these better than the original artics pro wireless ?
Exists latency in gaming for competitive games?
Great! I was just looking for a new headset. I have used blackshark for 4 years now
6:25 you don’t think you could see it through the foam or be able to cut a tiny little slit to see the light?
Im curious how durable it is, I want something to last me years.
Techne never lets us down
that mic sound actually pretty good im surprised
I also have the GG software fatal error message. sad face. but this video was rad as always thanks techne!!
Does the mic on the 5p/5x have Ai powered noise cancellation like the 7p and the pros do? This is a huge selling point for me because my friends always tell me they can hear my air conditioning in the background during game sessions.
Have you adjusted noise gate settings in Discord? That should do enough to block out AC sounds.
How are they compared to Turtlebeach 700 gen 2 Max?
In my country Nova 5 costs 180$ is it still worth it?
This or the new black sharks for console ?
I just got the arctis nova pro wireless for xbox, can i use this app or do I need to use gg on the computer.
Alright i’m sold, just confirmed my Amazon order 😎
Are this better than the Astro a30?
Thanks for the Review. Pulse Elite or this one ?
Watch Gadetry tech review on the pulse elite even he says they sound better than the steel series
This or the nova 7s?
Too bad it doesn't have simultaneous wireless and BT. I always listen to podcasts, music and videos while gaming on console
These aren't made for that. Buy a Sony Ult headphone
on playstation you can use spotify while gaming at the same time, I listen to podcasts while playing games that don't really need sound like NHL and it works fine with my cheap PS4 headphones so I'm guessing that it would work fine with these!
okay so at first they felt a little small around my giant ears. got wicked cushion ears and headband. they are still little off. love the headset as whole but any advice in what adjustments to headset i should try to make fit a bit better? bottom of ear does not go in cushion (big ears) pressure a little high and a bit warm. so slight discomfort. band is set to bottom 2 wholes with wicked cushion band. wondering if someone has magic touch on some positioning to try out. my blackshark pros were great feeling but got the famous top of earcup hinge snapping. so trying these. if i can fix the remaining comfort would be perfect as they are really light which are nice.
Great review.
Why do you consider this the new $140 sweet spot? Wouldn’t the PS5 Elite beat this out?
Planner magnetic drivers
Better mic
ANC
Simultaneous Bluetooth
I don’t see how these rank better?!?
The Pulse Elites don’t have ANC and the mic is actually worse!! I have the Elite and might make the jump to these cause they seem better for a lot of reasons!
@@SteelCitySniperYTthe pulse elites 100% sounds better tho. Watch gadgetry tech and he says the same
So if i purchase the nova 5x version i can use it wireless on xbox series x and wirless on pc?
year ago i got the 7X and for me it wasn't comfortable at ALLL and since i never wanted to try any Steelseries anymore and i won't risk it and buy this one too feel the same
What would you chose between nova 5 or nova 7, i have a warranty coupon that can buy one full price and dont know what to chose cause I dont see very differences
Nova 5's
The Nova 5 is the new version that adds the new microphone and added other improvements mentioned in the video. Better than the Nova 5.
i decided to jump on this headset because of the microphone, i really wanted to get the nova pro wireless but the mic is so awful for a streamer like me. It sounds just like im on speaker on a phone call. I wish the nova pro wireless had this microphone.
Nice! Well, how would you rank it against acrtis nova pro?
arctis pro is better, but also more $$$
@TheTechne thanks for advice! ❤
Thanks for the review. I think that its a nice pair of headphones but i have a gaming laptop and im scared that the dongle is too large and i wong be able to plug in my mouse beacouse the usb a port is next to the c
Why doesn't it sound like the sounds change when you change presets on the app?
I be down if the mic was detachable.
Any white noise or static? Always had that issue with the novas. With the new turtle beach stealth series coming out I’m not sure which one will work for me
I never noticed any. Have you checked all your settings. Also maybe mic monitoring is set to high.
@@TheTechne yeah I’ve tried that still is a issue I get with my tinnitus. Been using the arctis 1 for awhile now so wanna upgrade. guess I’ll try both the turtle beach stealth 500 (2024) and the nova 5.
What about 7.1 virtual sound ? It sounds good in games ?
I have the arctis 7x+ looking to switch to the nova 5 . Is it worth it?
U hear this mic right? Hell yeah it's worth it, the 7 mic is trash AF 😂😂😂
does this work on the older headphones? like the nova pro?
Techne you're looking really healthy!
Great video, as always too 👍
Thanks a bunch man 👍
Subscribed, great video, thanks.
What is the best headset for Xbox in your opinion? I need a new headset and I want the best one on the market.
Get the nova 5x you won’t be disappointed with a 50-60 hour battery life and app controls on you’re phone.
Thanks
Can somebody tell me how well sidetone works with this headset? Bc with the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless it barely works, you can’t really hear yourself if your firmware is up to date, even set to high, unless the mic is directly in your mouth.
You should review some ww2 radio headphones
I would like to know something though I have some issues with my current headset I want to know if they fixed some of those issues on this new pair like the mute button if you press in on it too many times I would just end up being shot already that was on the Arctics Nova pro wireless but I also have some static issues with it sometimes
i've just ordered this one. But where do i have to put the usb-c dongle in? I use an elite controller and don't have an usb-c port 🤣
Question? Can I Bluetooth this headset to my PC and have it connected to my Xbox to hear both audios at the same time? R is that only capable with the 7s?
Only 7s can do simatanious audio
There is only one sound at a time
Nice. They did a good job here. Can’t wait for the Atlas Air though 😅.
Hi, you said you get a tone when a call comes in, do you get the tone if a text comes in also?
i use the turtle beach stealth pro for xbox, would these be a upgrade or downgrade?
Downgrade lol. Wtf
That mic quality makes this more worth it than the 7 imo
What do you think? Nova Pro Wireless for Xbox or the 5x? Which sounds better?
I think the Nova Pro would naturally sound better as it’s twice as expensive, but as of which one gives you a better value, the Arctis Nova 5 packs a lot considering its price, it’s gonna give you probably the best “price to performance” out of any other headset
You just gotta ask yourself whether you actually need some of the more premium stuff on the Nova Pro and whether the difference in sound quality is worth paying twice as much as the Nova 5
Looks like a great choice for a lot of ppl
I’ve got the 7 and to much pressure on sides of my head and have another steel series on Xbox with same issue. Both have metal frame. Maybe I’ll give this plastic one a try.
Any other suggestions for someone with a large bald head? Lol.
Are these like a “closed back” headset?
