I'm listening on headphones and can clearly hear the environmental sounds, I'm guessing it's the water. Such as shame as I'm a big fan but this set is hard to listen to.

Sounds like a rain / stream of water sound added on top of the recording. Definitely not the kind of sound you hear on a boat like that, not part of the environment, not genuine.
I'd say it's pretty bad taste editing.
