Just to clear things up:
The song Senbonzakura is not a traditional Japanese folk song. The song was made in 2011 by the Vocaloid producer Kurousa-P/WhiteFlame. Kurousa-P produced the song and used the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku to sing the song's vocals. The song is based on the Japan Meiji revolution. The original PV came out on the Japanese website Niconico Douga, not UA-cam, and the original song had electric guitars, drums, bass, and such. Sometime later on, Wagakki band made a rendition of it that fused traditional Japanese instrumentals into the song. Afterwards, the 3D PV of Senbonzakura came out on UA-cam. The 3D PV came from one of the Vocaloid games from the game series entitled "Hatsune Miku Project Diva". The original 2D PV was released on UA-cam later, and therefore does not have as many views as the Wagakki Band, Project Diva, or Lindsey Stirling videos.
Kurousa-P is a well known producer in the Vocaloid fandom, having made songs like Acute and Cantarella too. Kurousa-P also made a prequel song to Senbonzakura, called "Crescent Moon". It is sung by the male Vocaloid KAITO, who appeared in both the 2D and 3D PVs as a blue-haired officer. A possible theory is that the two songs suggest that in Kurousa-P's rendition of the incident, the characters Hatsune Miku and KAITO were the ones who started the revolution.
Therefore, the song is by Kurousa-P, the song is sung by Hatsune Miku, and Wagakki Band made a traditional Japanese cover of it. Problem solved, okay?
As for Hatsune Miku's cover of a traditional folk song, that's "Ievan Polka", which... is a traditional Finnish song.

I was the stage manager for this shoot. It was fun to have you in the studio that day. You were so cool, and such an awesome person. The bass beat of this song is forever ingrained into my blood. The editor was creating this as it was being filmed. Rarely had I seen anything edited on site during production. The costumer designer did an amazing job. This was a fun shoot. :)

It speaks of Japan's modern democratization under U.S. command, still unable to escape the shadows of servitude and war (ICBM = intercontinental ballistic missile), but note that it uses "evil spirits begone" (implying the U.S. security umbrella) instead of its own military force.

Here it is said that those who die in battle become fertilizer for thousands of cherry trees but are forgotten (melting into the night), even the voices of the departed cannot be heard. There are various interpretations, but most people would agree that the innocents sacrificed in war are forgotten, only able to "melt into the night" under the cherry trees. "Cage of steel" refers to the wartime nationalistic military system; the meaning of "guillotine" is very clear, that is, the murderous war machine; the "ray gun" (originally 光線銃) suggests the atomic bombs and incendiary bombs dropped by Americans. We must remember that the suffering of the people during WWII was ultimately ended by atomic bombs. This year marks the 71st anniversary of the end of "that war" (a term used in Japan to reluctantly refer to WWII, showing how much they detest war). Especially at this time, we should remember. Particularly the relatives of those who died in the war, who could only say "Mr. XX died for the Emperor’s honor," how twisted human nature can be, truly "Even the song of lament cannot be heard." Only a few extreme right-wing nationalists might see this as a reason to fight and reclaim honor, but most people, especially in the Chinese-speaking regions, would certainly not see it that way.

This passage, when viewed with the accompanying video, first has a blackout with "black rests", followed by the appearance of soldiers, geishas, students, and other Western-dressed individuals, representing various aspects of Japan (military, cultural, educational, etc.), accompanied by relatively obscure imagery and dark tones (卍 宅魔 卍, 2011), representing the prelude to war, where no one can stop the advance of those who claim to be "saints" (homophonic with righteous or evil, living beings), saying "One Two Three Four" (the first two represent the more Westernized Meiji and Taisho eras, sung in Japanese, three and four representing pre and post-WWII Japan of the Showa era).

Awesome sounding as usual, but... I don't know, I wish she would try some different styles or something. A lot of these songs, even if it's a cover, end up sounding extremely similar (though not always, of course- I love the really different ones, like Crysyallize, Shadows, Shatter Me, and Roundtable Rivals). Don't get me wrong, I love her music, but when you realize a lot of the same ticks with the violin are repeated and the percussion is almost always the same, you start to wonder what happened to that new, fresh burst of creativity that was the Dubstep Violin Girl.
I think and hope those new styles will come soon/later this year.

I'm sure you've at least heard of Hatsune Miku by now. I would greatly appreciate it if you could look up her song "Meteor". That song changed my life. Not to sound like a hipster or anything, but I've been a fan of Lindsey pretty much from the very beginning. I remember when Crystallize was a brand new experiment with less than a million views and she was nervous about the whole dubstep violin thing. I would just like to say that I'm so proud of how much Lindsey has accomplished and I'm proud to know that I was one of those first fans that helped push Lindsey to fame

The funny thing is "Cantarella" is also produced by the same person who composed Senbozakura. It's Kurousa, as Lindsey mentioned in the description, not Miku. Kurousa tunes Miku, and makes the music.

I don't think the violin would do that song justice. A violin makes high pitched sounds and that song has prominent bass in it. It wouldn't sound right.

I'm Japanese, but this song is still familiar among us and I listen to it a lot.
In a place called karaoke, this song is sung every time. It was originally played with Japanese musical instruments, but I think it's wonderful to express it with the beautiful tone of the violin. Exactly, I was very young when this song, Senbonzakura, started to become popular.

After the world sees more Lindsey, it will be the new higher orchestral standard, cuz more ppl will buy tix to see dancolinists. Start early and build your nervous system, like a ballerina to teach your body to be able to play while moving. It's the only way. And when you get older, you may even be appointed to be a Master at the LS School of Instrumental Dance! ;D

I think this is a cover of Miku Hatsune's song called thousand cherry blossom trees. Even their dress up is similar. Very nice and it really has the Japanese feeling really well replicated. I advise anyone who likes vocaloids to actually go and watch miku's song. It's called Thousand cherry blossom trees.
