Oxidization is the byproduct of heat and O2, not flame and O2, so even the IR is oxidizing the bitumen, though likely by a negligible degree. I think IR is superior because it redistributes the bitumen to the surface and resets the patched area in time relative to the rest of the pavement.

If I'm fixing a depression and require a little extra asphalt, can I use coldpatch material rather than more asphalt?
