Yes, it was 61 years ago I married my dear wife. She left me for heaven 2 years ago, thus the sweet voice of Nana singing this soulful tune always haunts me.😢
So beautiful, reminds me when I met my departed husband in September 1967, he recently left the world in January. The memories of you will last as long as I live, my love seem to grow more now.
Fabulous lady with the most wonderful voice and oh so beautiful. I wish we could watch her on television in concert. Thank you Nana for making the world a beautiful place. X❤❤❤
I'm 70 (ish) years old now, and well remember hearing Nana Mouskouri in the 70's live on TV and on vinyl records. Her rendition of "Try to Remember" brought tears to my eyes then, and now that I am "deep in December" in my life, tears flow just as easily if not more so. What a treasure Nana Mouskouri is!
I first noticed her when I was 50 yrs old. I didn't remember that song unfortunately, but I always listen to her songs tentatively whenever I come across. One of the DVD seller mentioned that her voice was so sweet and natural that she sings like a housewife singing easily ( humming ) while dusting the households. May she be happy if she hears my comment.
Old, how, we age, but, tears are here, for the simple plain beauty of old days, memories, loves, a life to be remembered, even with false hopes, soured memory, some regrets, but, a love of the little moments of pure beauty, in the fondness of it, and, especially, the lovely plain goodness of Nana lives...
She is so stunning. She reminds me of my father as he is the one who introduced me to Nana. What a beautiful, brilliant woman. Always reminds me of Christmas also. We love you Nana Mouskouri.
This beautiful song was my fathers favorite song..His wish was that this song would be sung at his funeral, and so we did..I hope you are listening from heaven dad 💫🙏😇
I watched a whole evening of programmes featuring Nana Mouskouri on BBC4 last night, marking her 90th birthday. I remember she was on TV a lot around the 1970s but in my teens/twenties at the time, I never paid much attention, seeing her as a bit old-fashioned; someone more for my parents' generation. Having watched her last night, I now realize what an amazing talent this lady really was. She also came across as a lovely person. Happy birthday Nana.
I absolutely adore Nana’s performances from the 70’s. She’s in her prime here and the voice so pure and dulcet; one of Europe’s shining singers to say the least.
Mum and I love this song. I played guitar and sang this song. Mum died in 2021 at 95 and we had Nanas version during her cremation service. Superb as I wept.
The very pretty and extremely talented singer and performer Nana Mouskouri performs this beautiful, classic and melancholy song from the musical play The Fantasticks perfectly! The guitarist, musicians, and the male backup singers are fantastic! The harmonizing is perfect! I was born in 1978. Thank you for posting and sharing this classic performance! I love it!
My elder brother died in September 1972 of childhood leukemia. Absolutely tragic for all of us, especially my parents. This song will always hold such a place in my heart, even now, 51 years later. Such a beautiful and emotive song. Good-bye, brother Leslie 😢
You’re brother is well indeed flying high and looking out for you all. May the universe bless him and you. We think of all our loved ones with this song. Another very poignant and maybe even more emotional song for you is “open your eyes”. It makes me cry but is so beautiful to listen to. Maybe you already know it, but if you dont its beautiful. I manifest a beautiful and joy filled holiday season for you and your family. Its nice how we can bond through music. Thank you Nana, and thank you thank you for sharing your personal story with us and allowing us to connect :) ❤️
Such a wonderful rendition of this song! It HAS to be one of the best recordings from the 70s. Even the sound quality is terrific - and yet only 6,400 views!!!
@@thewind01 Interesting; I had assumed it was BBC. But from the quality it could well be German: German TV always had the highest technical standards. (Though if it was, I'd have thought she'd have done the German version Blumen der Liebe ua-cam.com/video/OZSpyUCK5oM/v-deo.html .)
The singers and the instrumental playing must be The Athenians, who recorded this and other songs in a live concert, on a two album LP (yes, vinyl) with the highest standards of sonic quality. The best ever!
And she married one of them (George Petsilas), and had two children (including Lénou who has sung with her (e. g. ua-cam.com/video/kUzCE1kr7RI/v-deo.html).
This was 1972; she was born 1934-10-13, so she was probably 37 here. Yes, her appearance didn't change much for decades (if you don't count the early film 1959/60 ua-cam.com/video/2KT9GI_Mw8s/v-deo.html). She looked much as here from 1962.
This song and her beautiful voice reminders me of my dear dad who loved the purity and clarity of her gorgeous voice and also her pretentiousness of her appearance. And I have just celebrated my 83rd birthday and these lyrics mean more to me than I could have ever imagined ... Thank you for the music and the wonderful memories ❤
You have about 40 years' worth of her career to enjoy! (from 1957 to around 1990 are all good.) In many languages (she sings in about 16, including some rare ones; she speaks about 6).
She's still (2024-July) alive, and can still sing - quietly, but in tune and control (unlike one of my other favourites who still has the power but has lost control). She (Nana) has mostly retired, other than for special occasions - she sang the Greek and French anthems at the lighting of the flame in Greece for the 2024 Paris olympics, for example.
@@allgood6760 Yes, she'll be 90 on October 13. For the above >89½ performance, see ua-cam.com/video/cOHLiQZRFzw/v-deo.html - don't expect as strong a performance as this one from about 50 years earlier! (and criminally poor sound mixing), but she clearly still enjoys singing.

Yes, some of her later recordings (~1995-) are quavery, though the last I have (from this year [2024] olympic flame ceremony) is OK and controlled, just very quiet. But 1957-199x are fine and a good long career!
