8.20.22 Just bought a 2017 SR5, without all the extras, with 62k miles on it, and I am stoked. In today's market I got a very good deal with an impeccable documented full maintenance report, and super clean inside and out. And anything I want to upgrade and add-on, won't break my bankroll over time, but as is, it has everything anyone would want, and drives smooth and tight. Great truck!
Have owned 4 trucks in my lifetime to include Toyota, Nissan and Chevy. I have a 2017 Tacoma SR with a lot of mods, and it is the best truck I have ever driven and owned. Love my Taco!!
I bought last year a 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport. I put 2 inch lift n 285 Renegade tires. It’s my first Tacoma but I used to own Dodge Ram , f150 n Silverado., they are all good truck. The Tacoma has only 21k miles n paid $30,500. I love driving it every day.
My ‘19 has the auto braking feature because of the camera in the grill. I love the Toyota safety sense features, in my 80,000 miles I put on it so far, I’ll admit that it did save me once from rear-ending someone. (It was my own fault, long day of work after not sleeping well the night before and wasn’t as alert as I should have been, P.S., I’m human)
Have a 2017 trd off-road 4x4 premium technology pkg bought it brand new, have had no issues yet. Love my truck, im at 70,000 miles. Toyota also gave me $5,000.00 off msrp.
2020 Taco 3rd gen owner here…No problems whatsoever…then again, mine rolled off the factory floor in February of 2020…before production was seriously affected by Covid 19
I got a 2017 tacoma sr and after all these years I have to say I have had no problems just changed the oil on time like you I never buy the first year of a veicle when it's been re designed plus we got alot of little things double storage boxes in the bed a couple of extra cubby holes in the dash that I've heard people on the channels have mentioned a few other things
Just got a 2017 sport trd 4x4 first one ever. It came with 2in lift but stock tires and wheels. Love your stance. Exactly what I want. How does it drive on highway and town. And what are you specs and brands?
Was about to look into a 2016 used with 96k miles but this video made me rethink that. I beat the 2014 was the best year actually compared to the late 2010’s models.
My Tacoma came with a cabin Fart censor to let me always be aware of my Methane Gas levels so not to thin the ozone layer when out driving ....My 2016 has been flawless.
This is an awesome video! I’m looking at a 2016-2018 Tacoma and this helps. I’m just unsure if to go with an SR5 or a TRD variant. Not sure if it’s worth it or not
The first 3 years of gen 3 Tacomas have a plethora of issues. They’re still good vehicles and are more reliable than 1/2 of the other vehicles out there , but I’d still stay away from 16,17,18 years. Starting in 2019 they ironed out a lot of those issues. By 2020 they were golden. Best years: 2020 2021 2022 2023
Car care nut specifically stated that 2016, 2017, and 2018 all had issues. Its 2019 and up that it all gets fixed. 2016 was definitely the worst year though. After 2016 its just little minor issues. I think 2021 and up is the best years since you actually get a powered seat and all the technology like radar cruise control and a better screen. I just got a 2023 SR5 V6 4wd in Silver. Love it. You can disable the radar and collision stuff if you don't want it but I think its nice to have. I saw a tacoma review with 318,xxx miles and the radar stuff still worked fine. All original.
It’s a boring truck lol nothing fancy but it’s been through some nasty storms and handled great! It’s great in snow and I was surprised as hell I didn’t have not one hail dent or broken glass after getting stuck out in a brutal hail storm
Well Sir, there was one little thing u didn’t anticipate, and I do mean little- and that is that the new gen for 2024 is strictly 2.7 4 banger 🤮. Sorry Toyota, not me! Love my 2017 ! Anyone know how to delete the “too close “ sensor mentioned here?
It’s entune that does the infotainment. I would upgrade to the entune 3.0 but you would also have to upgrade the amp to the subwoofer to be able to have CarPlay and keep it factory compatible
Amazing the kind of new-fangled issues you kids find with vehicles. Like you can't just play a Spotify playlist or something. No, you need "Apple CarPlay" or whatever the fuck it's called. Hilarious!
Don’t believe everything you hear from personal experience my 17 has been very reliable and I’ve only done oil changes tire rotations and changed a battery apparently I’m supposed to perform other maintenance stuff but being I’ve had to budget only done the basic stuff
The timing cover leak and 3rd brake light effects 2016-2019 Tacoma, not just 2017 models. I’ve also never heard of only 2017 Tacomas having differential leaks.
I got a ‘17 I thought had the recall reverse light leaking issue ended up being cracked wasn’t the seal so they changed the seals anyways and the plastic light and “labor” costed me $300 😤 other than that only things I’ve done is changed oil tire rotations and one battery I’m at 50,000 miles
@@pricekolby I'm sure! Jealous of y'all having two tacos! Supposedly 2019+ "more insulation, thicker side glass and a revised rear suspension" which made it queieter overall. The one thing I'll def give to the 2017, if a 4 banger, is the ability to have it be manual
@@lukepalmer325 We own a small business, so the SR5 is going to be our company vehicle. I think it's funny that my TRD PRO has manual seats and the SR5 has power seats. My legs start hurting after a few hours of driving in the TRD. Also, I've notice that the SR5 doesn't hunt for gears as much. We just got it last Saturday, but I notices it right away.
Best for modern gen 3, and gen 3 is superior to gen 2, but man does it make me ache for gen1. You can't tow anything with these new generations like you can a gen 1.
Wrong, 2016 and 2017 models were affected models, you my friend just got caught lacking, you said never buy the first year of a new generation but the second year is never the best
I think so. Personally I went for the 6 cylinder and happy with that decision but the truck will last you forever 40k on this truck is very low mileage!
I have a ‘17 6 speed no issues and I don’t do all the “required” maintenance I’ve only done oil changed and tire rotations and one battery change I’m 50,000 miles
Couple ppl I know one has a ‘16 other also has a ‘17 the 16 has 110,000 miles the 17 has 173,000 miles (He drives out of state for work) I asked both about reliability issues both said they havent had any issues kept up on maintenance but their tacos were also built is San Antonio 🇺🇸 Maybe those were built a bit better Who knows but from personal experience the ‘17 is simple and reliable 💪🏾
Reason #6 Because its the one I have
Haha yes
It’s literally the ONLY reason.

2017 sr5 double cab gang. Single owner 63K miles. Love it
I see this Magnetic grey is the most popular color !
I have a 2017 4x4 extended cab and I special ordered a manual 6 speed trans. Most of the issues with the 2017 are with the automatic trans.

The 3rd Gen Taco has that iconic silhouette/shape, specially when lifted and levelled.. the 4th Gen, however, starting to look like a baby Tundra's.

I’ve heard both the 2016 and the 2017 had the same problems. It took Toyota a couple of years to sort out those problems

What brand wheels do you have on your Tacoma I love them
They are Fuel wheels
