Soil Health card:- A Soil Health Card (SHC) is a document that provides information on the health of a farmer's soil, including its nutrient content, fertility, and other vital parameters. It is typically issued by the government or certified laboratories after testing soil samples. The Soil Health Card scheme was launched in India in 2015(Before 2015 a STL provides analysis report in technical form which is similar to SHC to the farmers ) to promote soil health and fertility, and to provide farmers with actionable insights to improve their soil's health.
The card provides information on:-
1-Soil pH,
2-Soil EC,
3-Nutrient content (NPK),
4-Micronutrient content,
5-Organic carbon content,
6-Recommendations for fertilizers and amendments (Gypsum,Calcium Carnonate, Various acids etc
By using Soil Health Cards, farmers can:-
1-Identify nutrient deficiencies and take corrective action,
2-Optimize fertilizer application, reducing its waste and environmental impact,
3-Improve soil fertility and Soil structure,
4-Enhance crop yields and quality,
5-Reduce soil erosion and degradation.
The scheme has been successful in promoting soil health and improving agricultural productivity in India, and similar initiatives have been widespread across universe.
