Guys... It's a song that is being sarcastic. You can see it in the movie. They are flirting and being playful with each other. It's a cute little song IMO
The song isnt outright saying she isnt ready and that she needs a man. If you watch the interaction of the characters you see he is trying to push her away, he's going off to war, by showing her that life is still in front of her. Then he realizes what he is doing and tries to take it all back in the last verse. Then she goes through the motions saying she sees what is out there, but fuck it, she wants him. But its hard to tell without the visual.
Nice try, but you're trying too hard to ignore the fact that gender biases were much more prevalent back then. The song is sexist and it's not even a matter of opinion.
You sir havent watched the movie or play. I literally described what is going on in the scene. To say other wise means that you are a hard core femanist, ignorant to fact, or just are trolling.
His opinion can't be shit first of all it's an opinion kind it's not a thing that can be good or bad, secondly it's not even an opinion it's legit just a fact of the movie stop being a bitch and making everything "sexist"
Me watching this movie with my younger cousin: "He's a moron, but he's right about one thing: there are men who will try to fool with false promises." My cousin: "Who cares? I'm a lesbian." And that was the famous moment when my grandomother fell from the chair and broke her leg.

I love this song! The film is one of my favourites. The song has so many layers to it; it's especially ironic that Rolf promises to "protect" Liesl, considering the events of the film towards the end.
Well, he protects her, but in the Broadway play. When Rolf encounters the Von Trapp family in the Church at the end of the play, he lies to the Nazis that there is no one there so the family Von Trapp can escape. In the movie they changed that

I don't think people are quite understanding... In a year, she'd be nearly 18 which, in 1940, was kind of like the age when you became an adult.

2) the fact that you need to rely on the slogan "women don't need a man" to help you claim this song is sexist shows your lack of understanding of this song
apparently to you i'm sexiest to my older brother because I want to protect him and i'm sexiest to my older friend because I want to protect her
also considering all the bitching coming from females today it seems to me not one can even handle a dirty joke, one cat call, and oh my favorite one how an AC unit is now sexist
or better can't seem to understand the wage gap which is really the earning gap but hey females now a days just plug their fingers in their ears and lal la la la and sing the anita sarkessian song about how everything is sexist and everything is racist without being about to back it up
The few women strong women who can on the other hand are bashed by our their sex and told how suddenly they don't have an opinion and have internalized misogyny because we don't believe in that ideology
3) there is nothing wrong for a man to say hey ill protect you and the fact that your acting like it is, is really sickening.
people want to protect people they care about regardless of whether their considered strong or weak.
if a mother wants to protect her son is she sexist?
if a father wants to protect his daughter is he sexist?
if a brother wants to protect his older/twin/or younger sister(s) is he sexist?
if a sister wants to protect her older/twin/or younger brother(s) is she sexist?
but this is all just in my opnion

Okay when you're making one of these lyric videos, don't make so many transitions because it's hard to read. But thanks!! xx
I am 13 stuck in a quarenteen-
ugh now i'm 17 going on 18 how sad
( Timothy Beech )
Well, Your Such A Baby
( Ginny Weasley )
I’m Eighteen, What’s Such A Baby About That?
( Timothy Beech )
You wait little girl on an empty stage
For fate to turn the light on
Your life little girl is an empty page
That men will want to write on
( Ginny Weasley )
To write on
( Timothy Beech )
You are eighteen going on nineteen
Ginny, it's time to think
Better beware be canny and careful
Ginny, you're on the brink
You are eighteen going on nineteen
Fellows will fall in line
Eager young lads and roues and cads
Will offer you food and wine
Totally unprepared are you
To face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared are you
Of things beyond your ken
You need someone older and wiser
Telling you what to do
I am nineteen going on twenty
I'll take care of you
( Ginny Weasley )
I am eighteen going on nineteen
I know that I'm naïve
Fellows I meet may tell me I'm sweet
And willingly I believe
I am eighteen going on nineteen
Innocent as a rose
Bachelor dandies, drinkers of brandies
What do I know of those?
Totally unprepared am I
To face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared am I
Of things beyond my ken
I need someone older and wiser
Telling me what to do
You are nineteen going on twenty
I'll, depend, on you
What movie is this song from?? It's on the tip of tongue and it's killing me

Used to love this song as a child, only now realising how sexist it actually is, disappointing.
Amy McMahon Do remember that this was set during WWII. If it wasn't sexist, I'd be surprised.
True!!
Amy McMahon Yeah ikr ...
Oh god...not this again.
Completely sexist. It paints most men as n'ere dowells and predators with only one or a few good guys in the world.
