- That's right! First and foremost, I want to wish all of you a VERY Happy Easter!!!!! This is the day where we celebrate Jesus who has risen from the dead. But coincidentally, today is also my birthday as well! What a PERFECT way to celebrate this amazing day is something you have all been waiting for. As promised, this is a vintage old Otis elevator I have found in which I haven't seen in such a long time. Got a perfectly detailed video of these pieces of beauties including a bonus, so I hope you enjoy this video and thanks so much for the birthday wishes! :D Installed in 1963.

Happy Belated Birthday Jim! Glad to know that even with the elevators at Nix being gone, there are still some surviving Touches in SAT! And yes, the last surviving Touches in Portland are being modded and the last easily accessible ones in Seattle are being modded (Melbourne Tower is being modded right now, Active Voice which i filmed in 2018 now has Compass 360. Lloyd Building is still original, but now you need a badge to enter and theres a guard in the lobby now). As far as I'm concerned, these fixtures are extinct in Toronto and possible all of Ontario now, and aside from 625 Rene Levesque and like 3 other places that are unfortunately inaccessible to the public, most of the ones i knew about in Montreal are gone now. Hopefully these elevators still remain accessible and original for years to come, there's getting to be fewer and fewer of these everyday!
Yeah Julien, I sadly won't ever get to visit Seattle in time while the rest of the Otis touch-sensitive elevators are still currently living as I'm sure you have heard as I clearly stated in the middle of the video about that. For one being that it's expensive, and my parents have no interest at all. Even if I do visit in the future, I'm sure everything will all be gone and it's literally not worth my time I waste putting stress on my parents over such small and simple things like that. From the looks of, I have NO privileges of going to the west coast no more (due to how financial levels are in this current stage) now and likely for good this time. I also have a good feeling the pop-out elevator in Tacoma will be taken away too (I already saw a Schindler pop-out in Hong Kon that literally made up for it though). As for these elevators here, I just talked to an elevator technician I made in contact with, and he told me that these aren't going anytime soon because the building doesn't have the money to mod them as of now.
Sad update to follow: As of 2023, Kleberg and Horticulture at Texas A&M have modded both their remaining vintage elevators now. :(
@JimLiElevators It's definitely a good thing you got the Pop Out in China. Yeah, I have a bad feeling the Pop Out in Tacoma is going to be gone soon too, and from what I've heard, the Rockefeller Building in Cleveland with the Westy Pop Outs recently closed for renovations.
It definitely breaks my heart to say it, but we are reaching the end of an Era for vintage elevators in so many places
@JimLiElevators Also I am curious. Even if you don't visit the West Coast again, do you ever plan on going back to Toronto or anywhere on the East Coast of the US? Also, do you have any plans on returning to China at some point?
@@FloridianElevators The only state in the east coast I’ve gone to is North Carolina mainly because my older brother lives in Raleigh and my parents always visit him each summer. Toronto is maybe a possibility, but that is all unknown right now. From what it looks like, my parents don’t really travel that often anymore than before, and I have good feeling that is rightfully so. That is why I’ve been going to College Station more often these days because of that. China, I would MUCH rather abstain because they’ve been giving us as Americans a REALLY BAD symbol, making me way too incredibly scared to even go back ever since the pandemic. I’m sure it definitely would not end well if I get harassed badly for filming (probably far more worse than here), and it may potentially be the last fate you’ll ever see me.
@@JimLiElevators Totally understood. Is there a reason your parents are no longer interested in going to Seattle? I remember you almost went around the time I did a few years ago
Nice video and I need to find elevators like that to ride because I have a shirt with those buttons on it
You'd better be quick! These are dissappearing FAST!
Hey Jim, I just rewatched this video and and I have to surprise you by telling this, but there is one original OTIS Autotronic system surviving in one part of India. Sorry, UA-cam is removing or hiding lots of comments these days
Happy Birthday Jim!!!
It's odd that these are still installed. Aren't touch sensitive button non ADA Compliant?
Correct they aren't, and they're also not up to fire codes. That, combined with the age of the equipment and the amount of relays and other moving parts these elevators use to function is what's killing so many of these.
Happy birthday Jim
