really nice video and really nice to meet your daughter! my children are much younger but I just imagine us in a few years.. you are a really young mother and your daughter is lovely..😘
+Alba Gutierrez Pedemonte Yes, children have a very annoying habit of growing up. One minute they're all cute and cuddly and the next they are tattooing their arms. But it is the natural way of things and each stage should be embraced fully. Thank you for watching and saying such nice things.
I loved seeing Ishtar! So nice of her to make an appearance in the video. You have great together! :) This was fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to see the tulips in bloom. It's awesome that in Ireland you can plant them even in April. When we had a garden, I planted the bulbs on September, so they would bloom in the spring. But I didn't lift them, I left them in the earth and they would grow and bloom again the next year. The only danger was the moles and other rodents during the winter. They have an acute sense of smell and they love the bulbs. Once when we had lots of snow, and it started to melt in the spring, little by little we could see a network of narrow tunnels in the snow across the garden, and surprise surprise, most of them came to and from the tulip bed. That year I thing only one tulip grew, and the others had been chewed away. I read that if you plant daffodils (the big ones) around the tulip bed, the moles won't come. Apparently the daffodil bulbs are either too hard or taste bad.
+Orchids & a Dutchy Ah yes, moles can be a problem. Thankfully we have no moles in Ireland. Some tulips can be left in the ground. It depends on the group. Darwin Hybrids, for example, are very robust and come up for many years. Thanks for watching, Andrea, anf your great comments :)
Hi. Douentza, Happy to your daughter. I see you are talking with sweet smile now see your daughters pretty smile. Like bloom flowers. I have three types Colour 🌷 tulips, I planted tulips 6 years ago for 3 types of colours, every spring coming back. Zz.
You two together are so sweet, thanks for introducing Ishtar to us. Your jollity really brightened up my morning :) And boy am I curious about those tulips, I love them flamed ones. And all the others. Tulips are just so nice.
Oh what a nice video and such a joyful ambiance. Hopefully your daughter will come back soon. So nice to see your complicity and laughter . Thanks for sharing .
This is such a FUN video and its BRILLIANT to meet Ishtar :-) I LOVED watching this video and I was smiling along with you both :-) so looking forward to seeing the tulips blooming :-) thanks so much for sharing Rachel and Ishtar and sending you both tons of love and heaps of happiness from Waterford and have a FANTASTIC Friday XXXXXX
Oh, that what a lovely video, Rachel! You're daughter is quite beautiful. It looked like you both had a wonderful time doing this video. Thank you for sharing with us this loving memory that will be with both for a very long time! ♥
+Gardening at Douentza ... I look forward to the blue tulip blooming! Admittedly, I have not yet seen one for real. I watched carefully while you planted the bulbs and covered them with soil. I will try to do it myself this autumn, see what Ad says. Btw, we had one pot where more than half didn't come out, so it was quite 'bald'. Ad thinks it was too wet, and it couldn't have been the rats this time because he had covered all the pots with gauze to prevent them from sneaking in. Under the gauze he had put a blanket of fallen oak leaves to keep the soil from freezing. But ... what do you think?
+Ella Wagemakers I am sure Ad knows better than me why your tulips didn't come up :) It was a very wet winter. Do give it a go yourself this autumn :) There is, by the way, no such thing as a true blue tulips, despite the nice pictures on my packet :)
Rachel, you're living in a land with no Ice or snow. I have to get mine in by October because by November I could have 26ins of snow, freezing rain and bone chilling cold here in Northen Ont.Lol! Lol !Lol
Ha ha!! How funny I should come across this video tonight after I've spent today finally planting all my tulip bulbs also! Some did not pass the squeeze test as you may imagine. Some even combusted in a cloud of dust! Oops indeed. Note to self; must stop impulse buying tulips in the autumn ; ) I usually get them in the ground in December but something went awry last season. Thanks for the laugh, I feel like I'm in good company now. Jennifer : )
+finflwr Well, it's very easy to buy discounted tulips in autumn but it is harder to actually get them in the ground. You have done it now. Better late than never :)
+Giovanni Orchids Killer Grazie, Giovanni. Ero lieta vedere la prima acquista del mio libro in Italia alcuni giorni fa. Grazie tanto del tuo supporto e buon diventimento! xx
+Archies Orchids Out of tulips? It all depends on the group. Some types are good at coming back. But Rembrandt (group 9) is not. Happy growing, Archie.
