The thing is you've done it! We live and learn and move onwards. Totally agree emergency pennies stay where they need to be, for your loved ones. Loving your channel ❤
I've just got my shopping in early and went for salad, bread and easy heated tins. we have red warnings and talk of the worst storm for years here in ireland. I'm planning for power cuts. winds with gusts of 180 km
I live in Florida. I'm so empathic to your high winds. Just got through the long power cut from Hurricane Milton last year. High winds are horrible. We were sorted with our emergency prep and it was still tough being without power for 5 days. Sending good wishes for your safety and well being. ❤
I'm in Clare and, while I'm well prepped for any power cuts, I'm making sure I have everything secured outside to prevent stuff flying about and causing damage.
Yes, same here. Just finishing the washing in case of power cuts tomorrow. Had a Tescos delivery this afternoon. The driver told me tomorrows deliveries have been cancelled. If the power is on in the morning I'm going to fill a 1.5litre flask with hot water for drinks and making sure tablet and phone charged up. By all accounts its to be worse than storm Arwen when there was no power for 5 days
@@juliamaitland7160 Are you in Ireland as well? I've lost power in the last storm, but only for ten hours max. Still, I have a small camping stove for events like that. It's so handy to be able to warm up some soup or stew.
My minivan just had repairs that cost over $2,000.00. Luckily, I always budget for things like that and I'd rather get new brakes and calipers when they're worn, rather than have them fail on the twisty mountain roads I drive. I've always taken lunches. My son makes extra for dinner so he can have leftovers for lunch at work. Taking the back roads to avoid tree falls may sound good, but if something happens, it'll be harder for rescue crews to find you. Although, out in the country, there's usually a neighbour with a chain saw to cut a fallen tree. Still, you can't count on a quick rescue. Always take a blanket, extra water, even a candle and something to light it with, for heat, so you don't have to run out of gas (petrol) to keep warm. I'm old and retired, so I just stay indoors during a storm and have my camping gear as backup for power outages. Cheers, and good luck. Jon in rural BC, Canada
Well done! It does save so much in time as well as money! 5 mins to pack a lunch at home vs 15 mins queuing for a chilled sandwhich (yuk) with limp salad (double yuk) or baked item with a gazillion calories! Not only the financial wise choice but also gor your health and time. Maybe in the better weather, you could fo a 5min walk in your lunch half hour - I used to do 5 mins one way, 5 mins back, take 8 deep breaths. Eat packed lunch (10mins) go to the loo, maybe chst got a couple of mins and then back to work able to be more efficient have fueled my brain with oxygen as well as nutritious food. Hope this idea hrlps someone.
I have to say those sandwiches are really cheap comparing with Irish prices. The shop I work in charges anything from €4.50 to €5.45 per sandwich and some people get them daily. I can make lunches for the week for that price.
I always find it strange how the UK supermarkets are so much cheaper than European ones and yet eating out in the UK costs so much. I paid £21 for a tiny piece of chicken, half a tomato, one mushroom and a small pile of iceberg lettuce here in Wales this week (in a pub!). A Portuguese restaurant would be embarrassed to present such a small meal for such a high price!!
A home made meatloaf is great for lunches, have with mash or in a roll or chopped into pasta with a sauce. Silverside or corned beef can be used instead of ham, eaten with veg and white sauce, in sandwiches, in salad. A roast chicken is economical too with endless options. Stay warm and safe!
Where I work from home I have the luxury of making something yummy for lunch, my favourite at the moment is half a can of Sainsbury or Asda Bombay potatoes and one of the beautiful garlic naans from Aldi!
Ya know, social media beats us up alot well you "should have been:".... well we have taken care of our kids, taken care of our parents we didn't always focus on ourselves. We reacted to what was needed of us. Yes, we should have been more organized, right? Yeah sure. How? Hey we're working hard getting back at it. We need to remind one another that we are doing great just getting done what we get done.
Love the honestly and and realism. The ever evolving lunch to something health and budget friendly. Hope wee Kathleen is doing well? Perhaos someone can share her channel with me please? Have a good week Karen ❤ be careful on the backroads if you use.
Don't forget a flask for in the car. A warm drink works wonders when waiting for help.😊❤ stay safe.
Making mini meatloafs in muffin tins and mini crustless quiches are great for lunches alongside some salad or cherry tomatoes and a fruit.

@theclumsyprepper no not now. I live near Lindisfarne but lived in Donegal for 16 years until I retired. I hope it won't be too bad in Clare

@tracyburton3458 That's an insane price. In my area that would cost you around €12-€15.
Put your emergency supplies in your backseat not the trunk

Thats a great lunch idea! Thank you ❤
Any home made food is going to be better quality than shop bought lunches. And add in the savings - major smug!
Karen, Is your postal address to receive parcels the same as previous?
No, I need to change that
I'm glad you addressed the "don't you have any savings?" Stuff.
