I think they'll balance it so staying in Red Gauge is better for elemental longsword users and using helmbreaker + spirit release is better for raw longsword users I know that I'll be staying in red gauge rather than spamming Helmbreaker + Spirit Release. Looks much more fun.
I am very glad we are returning to something that is closer to old long sword, yea new moves are crazy but its still way closer to old LS playstyle than world or valor LS

I think Valor Longsword was a good balance between countering and comboing due to the whole Valor Gauge mechanic, but World's longsword wasn't balanced at all in this regard. That said, the combo uptime when in Red Gauge with Wilds' LS looks incredible. Everything has a follow-up, there are multiple ways to adjust your attack angles and your general position in relation to the monster, everything points towards the Red Gauge moveset being the most active longsword has ever been. LS users will feel a taste of how lance plays: measuring combos, counters and positioning in order to pressure the monster as much as possible.
This is very like the pizza cutter and the saed from the chargeblade in world, the first being top tier for elemental damage and the second for pure ungabunga burst damage
the only video i saw with the most information about the new LS move sets + i follow you since world and im not sure but i hear your voice for the 1st time ^^ for me you are one of the best and my favorit mh player men, you inspire me so much with your playstyle in world and rise, keep it up!
@@SlawBunnies909 the power coatings missing target is not a big deal since we have 50 coatings but the more limited arrow types like paralyze, sleep, etc are so precious that missing target is really frustrating haha
The playstyle I think I'm seeing here, if the motion values are good in red gauge, is to stay in red gauge and before it expires, you helmbreaker to spirit release. You could do a variety of playstyles from the looks of it though. Hoping for an elemental meta unlike World had with Raw values

Les timings des esquives sont assez similaires à World Pour la première question, je pense que le monstre est niveau moyen, un peu Rathalos tier je dirais !

Think a good combo im figuring out in rise is a weapon with good poison thats fast and does a lot of damage. And for the speedy monsters use a heavy shied weapon like lance or chargeblade that has exhaust on it so theyre easier to hit and tire out. Since were rolling with two weapons we need to figure out different combinations now. Im rolling with full offense and defense instead of close and long range.
Hope they polish the game a lot more before release, this looks fun but compared to world it seems so janky and something is just off with the combat. I do know this was a very early version of the game though.
It's the visual effects that look incoherent and weak. Those slash effects that you perform after a lunge attack seem to look off since they don't really follow the blade in the slightest.

So spirit release uses the remaining two bars, and can presumably only be done following a red gauge helmbreaker. I was wondering how they would balance it. I'll probably try using something other than a longsword, come release, but it is inevitable that I'll eventually end up going back to it. I know myself, I ain't even gonna lie about it lol.
all i see is buffs for glaive, im pretty sure the freakout from the aerial glaive being gone isnt real since i keep seeing comments and the og post of the glaive even said that aerial is still in the game but its a diffferent button input now
honestly if I had more time, I would have tried it, but with only 60 minutes I had to make a choice xD IG would probably have been my 4th or 5th weapon

If you don't want to use it, it's up to you but I just don't see the point to go to a LS video just to complain about it Switch Axe got an extremely good treatment as well, I did a video about it just before this one

The LS changes all look really cool except spirit release slash. Helmbreaker spam was already your best damage so why does it need a followup that does even more damage, has a hitbox the size of Pluto’s orbit, and have hyper armor? Even with it putting you back at white, with how many tools you have to level up gauge, I just don’t see a reason why you’d ever use the red moveset over just spamming Helmbreaker/spirit release
I think it won't does alot or like twice the damage of the normal helmbreaker but make the player stuck in the animation so it'll be more risky to use.
I mean, Helmbreaker did do a lot of damage in Iceborne, but there's no guarantee it'll be just as powerful here. A really easy way they could have balanced this is if Helmbreaker's damage has been cut by around 30% in Wilds, which would mean that people who truly want to use a Helmbreaker spam style have to commit to a Spirit Release (kind of like how most of Greatsword's damage has been moved to TCS rather than Draw Slash or Strong Charged Slash like in previous games) Helmbreaker + Spirit Release also could be bad for stacking up elemental damage, which would give the red gauge moveset its own niche
Unless you have hours of monster knowledge on the big openings, doing helmbreaker spam is a fast way to cart yourself. Red moveset seem to be much safer way to play during your first few encounters with a new monster.
ls mains will never admit that their weapon is the easiest to use.. theres a reason its the most used weapon by a large margin.. its the path of least resistance.

the moveset of long sword looks much more like a samurai now, it's insane! LS is my preferred weapon, along with IG and Bow. So excited for Wilds

Helmbreaker wont do as much dmg, so you'll have to commit to the follow-up for max damage. Good change imo
