This man,in my humble opinion is a genius. Brilliant novelist, artist, producer, director, just insanely talented, and his whole body of work especially his art and writing is so original. To top all of this off he's a very nice man.About 20 years ago I wrote to him at an la address requesting an autograph. After a while an index card and letter arrived, with clive profusely apologising for the delay, which didn't bother me in the slightest, I was so happy to have his signature. I have every book he's written and all of his films as both producer and director.

Getting a bit worried about when Kry Rising, the 4th book of Abarat, will be released. Even the Wikipedia pages has stopped posting dates for it and just omits it from his biography. I hope he's okay.

Fear not, KC! From www.clivebarker.info/intsrevel34.html : "And finally, I’ve been working on the Abarat books, the two remaining Abarat books. The room I’m sitting in at the moment has piles of handwritten manuscript which is obviously Deep Hill, which I guess is now about 1,200 pages of handwritten stuff, and hundreds and hundreds of Abarat illustrations, so what I’m trying to do right now is go through these many illustrations and obviously the paintings here which have not yet been seen and I can start to put them together with Abarat Four which needs one more draft, otherwise it’s finished [...] Here I am facing Book Five, the final book of Abarat and it is huge. It’s huge in terms of its narrative, it’s huge in terms of its number of characters, it’s huge in the way I want to wrap it up. I want to make sure that all the questions people ever asked (...) all those questions are answered."

Abarat is fantastic. It's a "riot of color and weirdness" according to the interviewer from Trashotron, and he's right. It's a great mix of plot twists, colorful characters, imaginative environments, outrageous action etc. etc.
Unfortunately, like many of Barker's works (Scarlet Gospels, Galilee, The Art series) he hasn't finished the series which started in 2002. He's got 3 of the 5 books published and part 3 "Absolute Midnight" ended on such a strange cliffhanger I cannot wait until he finally releases part 4.

@@KCHunter Its a bit complicated but let me try to put it this way:
      - The first two volume are release on 2002 and 2004.
      - In my country there are one publisher brought a copyright and translation right on these books.
      - These books they are publishing are done in such a very fantastic manner, Hardcover, Gloss text paper, Full color with all the original illustration. Through and through, A collectible quality. Exact to the original print.
      - The market and landscape of "reading a book" in my country had been change since after 2010s and I doubt the publisher would do the same quality as they did back then or worst, translating it.
      - Meaning it will be harder to get to and the price would be more expensive as well.
      * I might be able to acquire the original book, But I would love to have a translation one.

First time I've seen artwork of him and it's such a letdown knowing the covers of his books being interesting.
He"s a much better writer than a painter, we can agree to disagree. His art is not imaginative at all, and there are concept artists who are in obscurity that do a better job. He should stick to writing books and doing movies and being less questionable in his devotion to Christianity; which he claimed to be but I'm sceptical of him being not heterosexual.
Being gay and Christian is a paradox and not possible.

You're a hateful person and I won't stoop to your level. If there's someone who'se critical of Christianity it would be me. Fact is that in America a lot of people give it a bad reputation. There's lot's of hypocrites in that country who claim to be what they're not, using it as a façade to further a very different agenda or for other dubious reasons. It must also be more difficult to comprehend the importance of Christianity for maintaining Europe's legacy if you weren't born there. I agree with the notion that people should not play God. Not in science or other areas, it's usually human hubris th at would lead to such explorations, not the search for God, living purely and concentrated toward what matters, as millions directed themselves before through history. Christianity has never and will never be about hatred toward other people. Not even toward muslims. It's about drawing strength from your faith. It's about having a center and living from that center. When you go to court and are faced with a judge who will sentence you for being an idiot then he will want to objectively sentence you and ask himself about God in that position. He wants to make the right decision about what your punishment should be but he's not alone in that decision. There may be judges with no faith today, but as described is how it always went before and how it's still happening today.
There's nothing wrong with homosexual people. Usually there are psychological reasons that led them to become this way. Usually a meek father figure with no strength to attain from. In previous decades these people were taught by society to learn to restrain themselves. Some became priests and suppressed it until they overcame it.
I don't care how this evolved in america but the country has been progressive from the beginning it was founded. The statue of liberty represents this and the entire country has to thank the French Revolution for it.
Still gays and transsexuals - people such as yourself as it's unclear if you're male or female or maybe an eunuch - should have some standard of dignity and rise above themselves not becoming gays or transsexuals. It's a crime against nature and always leads to natural selection's final coup de grâce. A society should never encourage feminization of men from childhood onward. Only one as warped and female-dominated through all strata could normalize the abnormal and celebrate the degenerate.
My European ancestors knew the nature of the beast called humanity, they knew so much already and shaped this model for society throughout Christianity. A timeless way of life with no testament to the transitory.
Modernity has only shown failure and opened up a whole plethora of cesspools that were kept closed by Christianity and kept degeneracy in a headlock with it's societal grip. As of 2016 there has been no valuable new paradigmn presented only nihilism no matter how you turn it. Christianity is non-negotiable.

    • @some12watch30
      @some12watch30 8 років тому

This is why I don't like the average american. So uneducated and vulgar, anti-intellectual. Obviously you never explored true Christianity but a sensationalized American interpretation in line with the american mindset. Extremely superficial. In Europe and Russia Christian disciples, practitioners of the faith are normal people who are generally rational and not the freakshows generated in the usa.
Your mindset is so lacking and one-sided it causes you to project all your ignorance and stupidity on this blank canvas here. Typical american. Concepts as heaven and hell should never be taken too literally, a lot is made of parable and metaphor. Only ridiculous americans take it to ridiculous extremes and that only represents america, not genuine Christianity. For degenerates such as yourself and your peers in america it must be trendy to be so spiteful to the moral dichotomy and the judgement of your decadent choices.
You want no responsibilty and shun it because you're too weak to bear the burden Christianity brings with it.
You would rather live a degenerate than a just life. You would rather live in lies than gaze upon the truth and the truth is there's more to life than we can perceive with the naked eye. There is a spiritual truth and to find it one must redirect himself (or herself) to tap into that consciousness.
The visions of Clive Barker are very interesting because they show something that's underneath consciousness, a darkness that exists within some people and through art can be outpoured.
Where does that come from, what is the origin of this space? When you can be open-minded this can be analysed so it's not about good and evil per se. I wrote this for others to read to show a Christian mindset can be intellectual and not judging of everything as either good or evil. No more words to waste upon you.

What an illuminating look at one of the most original and unique author/artists I've ever had the privilege of being turned on to. His Abarat books, while intended and classified as being part of the young adult genre are equally appealing to me as an adult. Having the additional pleasure of having these paintings go with the book adds an incredible dimension to it. When I first heard there were paintings that accompanied the work, to be honest I was a little worried that by having actual pictures in the book it would remove my ability as the reader to entertain my own imaginative view of the world and its characters. My fears and doubts proved completely unfounded. Not only does the art bring out the book in ways I could have never imagined, it offers a kind of intimacy to the reader with incite into the characters and the places that makes them living and breathing. I was so happy to get sucked into this world. Thank you Clive Barker, and we can't wait to see the paintings you've been working on for the third book, Absolute Midnight, and we can't wait to read the fourth book. But I won't say hurry up or rush it. I trust your genius and however long it takes, I'm patient and willing to wait. Thanks for touching the world with your art and literature and being willing to share it with me and countless others!

Yes there can be only one Clive Barker but sometimes Quiddity and Abarat feel like they are places I've visited in dreams..there IS and only ever will be one me but it amuseses me that the collective subconcious (I think..I'm not quite arrogant enough to believe only myself and Clive Barker visit these places nocturnally!, it really makes me think about the spiritual, dream life..Clive Barker has such a talent for capturing these elements of ephemera and putting them into his amazing work. I just love it he"s the best of the best!

humans used to be eaten by wild beasts. humans used to not understand the mechanisms of the world. it was confusing and hostile.
having such elements in nightmares are preparations for a primitive reality. our lifestyles have evolved, but our brains? our MINDS?
maybe our nightmares aren’t preparing us for modern reality.
maybe even our emotions aren’t. stress is killing people in the modern world, because stressful situations are no longer a two minute scrap with a tiger or swooping bird. now your stresses last months, and they have no claws or eyes to see. it puts our bodies into paranoia as though there is a literal unseen enemy, when really it’s an abstract concept like the IRS.
maybe the reason so many people feel that their emotions are wrong, is because they are? because we aren’t built for the world we’re building? what if we are making the human experience obsolete, and suffering for it?

To me Giger's world is rather sick and twisted. Barker's world is just wondrous, even when he is portraying very evil characters or sitations, indeed like a dreamworld. If we could enter dreams and walk around in them, my mouth would be agape in Barker's and I would be petrified, no doubt, but also thrilled and excited. Giger's world I'd just want to get away from as fast as I f'in could, seriously. That guy is seriously messed up.

Very cool. His voice is this way I presume due to fumes from art like the eye patch to Dale Chihuly. The voice and tone of artful dedication.

I admit, so far I've only read the first volume of the books of blood, but I can already tell by his art and his intricate stories that he's a very creative person and a great author. This guy gives King a run for his money.

I love his Barker's writing a lot better than Stephen King! Although both are great, Barker's surrealism speaks to me more.
