    I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has struggled with building track on the terrain around that blasted Aurora Falls sawmill 😂😂

    A little tip, you can fly while chopping trees and while using the demolition tool. It used to work through the "G" menu but that is fixed/removed. Fortunately it is stil possible with the middle mouse quick-access menu. It takes only two simple steps:
    1 - Middle mouse -> Re-rail
    2 - Middle mouse -> Logging or demolition tool (whichever you need)
    A Sidenote: For more serious editing without diving into hex editing, the Railroad Studio site is up to date and also allows editing of new content. Anyway: Nice to see a new "season", lets hope you can limit the number annoyances while playing and may it become a nice extensive railroad!

      The railroad studio site wasn't updated when this was recorded. It's nice to have that option back now

    It might just be how I would play, but honestly, I would definitely go with the trestle bridges over land, have them gradually climb down at no more than 5% with brief rests along the way at 0% so there's at least sections where you can either gain speed or climb down to without having to hit a steady grade all at once.

      I don't like the look of trestle everywhere. It's not realistic and takes away the challenge. There's nothing wrong with building your railroad that way. It's just not for me. Thanks for watching!

    Would you say you got a little side-tracked today?
    Back to the saltmines, you say? Yes, Boss. 🙂

    I find 50 a good industrial turn. Keeps the speed down on the bigger engines

    On another note, I rarely use the straight track stuff anymore.
    I just use the free mode and slam the track down as fast as I can. Just like the real narrow guages. Lol
    I'll go back and straighten up main line sections and yards, but that's about it.
    I just like the uneveness of free laid track. Makes watching the cars more fun.

      That's one way to do it 🙂

    You CAN lay a switch on a grade. There are two ways to do it. The first way is to simply lay the switch in alignment directly on the ground NOT attached to track. Then attache the track to the ends. The Second way is to lay your first track down the grade, lay a second length (that will be deleted), then add a third piece of track. Now go back and delete the middle section of track and place a switch. It should follow the grade from the single end (does not work from the double end).

    The struggle is real. I've been in this beta for a year and tracklaying is more art than science for sure. Reminds me of learning the hacks and tricks in FO4 settlement building. In other words, a real pain in the ---.

      It is better nowadays but you are right. The parallel track tool that they added works nice and is quite usefull. For other tracks I usally use fixed angles/grades (so no freeform) and clean the tracks up after the play session in Railroad Studio. (circularize tool is very frequently used by me)

    You can get the railing on both sides of the bridge. it's hard, but if you make the bridge first, then snap to it and copy the bridge going the other way there is 2 bridges overlapping it looks like one bridge and has railing on both sides

  • @Roboticus_Prime_RC
    @Roboticus_Prime_RC Місяць тому +2

    The switches will actually use the grade of the track it's snapped to.

      @KerboOnYT  Місяць тому +2

      They're always at 0% grade. What wizardry are you using to get switches on a grade?

      @@KerboOnYT no idea, but I've had to free place a few switches so they wouldn't go into the dirt. Lol

      @Skirakzalus Місяць тому +2

      They will keep the grade (same with the truss bridge), but only as long as you use the snapping point at the lever side

    • @KerboOnYT
      @KerboOnYT  Місяць тому

      @Skirakzalus Oh, well, that's a nice change then. I need to experiment

      @@KerboOnYT Yeah, it's a life saver when dealing with limited space and steep switchbacks.
      Though I noticed that after some of these placeable track bits (like the switches) the cars often do a hard twitching motion, and the truss bridge caused my trains to derail multiple times at medium speeds.

    I would play this game if it wasn't so much of a chore to do anything.

    What I did was to move the saw mill and the water tank to the other lake were the gold drudge is, moved the iron works to the flat area where the lumber mill was
    with also the cattle farm so I would not have to deal with that hill the water tank and the mill sat on.

    I totally agree that we need a key to flip between straight and curved while in curve radi mode. A few more quality of life fixed would make a great addition to the game.
    In a real railroad you'd be able to drop a steep grade with a round track going under itself. You can't build that in this game. No underpasses. Shame.

    • @KerboOnYT
      @KerboOnYT  Місяць тому

      No, I'm not really interested in doing that with this small of a railroad. It's handy using hump yards at the scale of a sim like Run 8.

    I keep having problems with this game.
    Each slope was built from mountains that were excavated.
    Additional quarried stone was sold.
    As long as no excavations are possible, the entire game is unrealistic.
