  • On the 22nd June 1941 the unstoppable Wehrmacht invaded Soviet Union. It seemed like another country is going to fall due to the blitzkrieg doctrine...

    Disclaimer:
The video is historical correct, but the fact that 41st Panzerjeager Abteilung was equipped with PaK 36 and PaK 38 towed guns instead Panzerjeagers. Hence I used vehicles in War Thunder, which were also produced in that period of time and had similar firepower characteristic.
In 5:10 you can see a memorial plate showing a KV-1 heavy tank. Today many historians agree that it was KV-2 tank. Notice the fact of 6 men crew instead of 5 as it would be in case of KV-1.
Please notice that 6th Panzer Division was in fact Leichte Division and had mainly Panzer II and Pz 35(t) light tanks.
You can see it's Ordre de Bataille here: www.blitzkrieg-...

On the second day the tank took about six 8,8 cm shells, a few infantry walked up to inspect it. after knocking on the side to their suprise the turret began turning and they fled with one throwing a nade in one of the holes finally finishing the crews final stand. locals said the tank pulled up in the night where it sat till the next morning. I'd like to believe they knew what they where getting into when they put her on that cross roads and waited. and even while cooking from the sun with blown out eardrums they managed to halt a German Assault for over 24 hours. I plan to visit this site one day, this is one of those places where 6 men did what few would even dare attempt, no support, no reinforcements, just you, a crew, 20 rounds, and a metal coffin.

German soldiers call the KV 2 with nickname "Dicker Bello" ( literally something like "fat dog". Normal German standard Pak 3.7 and 5 cm at that time couldn´t penetrate this heavy tanks, so most were either knocked out by couraged infantrymen or by the infamous 8.8 cm Flak.

On June 22nd 1941 the Red Army was neither partially mobilized nor unprepared. It had more tanks than the rest of the world's armies combined (24.000, the Germans had 3250!) some 8.000 combat planes and 8.000.000 troops, all posed to strike at the rear of the Germans. But these Germans were not stupid, they striked first, but they had no idea that things like the KV 2 and the T34 existed.

Actually they weren't in their country. They were in the territory of Lithuania that was invaded by Soviets just less than year ago. Ironically under the secret protocols of Molotov-Ribbentrop pact that was concluded between Russians and Nazis en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov%E2%80%93Ribbentrop_Pact Basically to invaders fought in the territory of third country in order to have control over it. Eventually Soviets caused more civil casualties and economical damage in the Baltics than Germans ever could.
