There was an outfit that closed last summer that took an old skagit yarder and made it into a tether winch, so I say it had no problem pulling, and this job you on looks like it was old cat skidder ground from arch days 60 to 80 years ago
The stuff people where saying just blew my mind, if the watch my real video from UA-cam instead off facebook that some guy stole and sped it up and they can’t even hear what I talking about or explaining why I’m doing what I do.
Buddy in an 855 with a directional has been running hooked to one of those little winches for a year or so now.Asked him how he liked being hooked to that tiny thing and he said when it gets real steep he steals the other one from the buncher and hangs from both at the same time. Now they have the bigger winch available so hoping he gets to try that one out one of these days to compare. Only thing he really worries about is if that winch comes dislodged it'll be a nice torpedo headed down the hill towards him. So far, hasn't happened 😁
I hauled for a guy in Idaho and that was sitting on the job. I wasn’t around while they were using it but I’ve been on jobs. Are they use like a excavator and that’s the winch I never got to see the Winn in action. That’s pretty cool.
The TWinch is constant tension on the drum! It works off pressure on the winch from what I’m told 🤷🏻♂️ so it’s always pulling in auto mode and you can adjust how much % you want to pull or hold you back when going down the hill
Why would it be harder to cut trees going down the hill than up the hill when you can place your tractor in the exact same place going either direction.
Because when your above the tree when cutting down, the back of your hotsaw will hit the bank before you can get it low enough to the ground when your on pretty steep ground, so when coming back up the hill cutting, your on the bottom side of the tree and you can cut a lower stump but have to be careful not to cut to far past the tree because of the bank behind it
@@wantowski987 So as you are going down the hill you will pass the tree and then swing the cab around and cut the tree from the downhill side of the tree. Basically you will be backing down the hill and cutting trees as you pass them and then cutting more trees as you go back up the hill. This should increase your daily profits because you are cutting trees in both directions. But what do I know, I have never done what you are doing. But it does look like fun.
It's weird they don't just integrate the winch into the 870 like a winch cat especially with all those trees to anchor off of. Also the wear on the cable has to be way more since the drum is at the top going through the dirt instead of laying on the ground and the drum being on the machine
You loggers are crazy to trust your life on that !!!!!!!!!!!!!! cables and chains . I PRAY FOR YA ALL THEY NEVER FAIL CAUSE ODDS ARE YOUR GOING TO THE MAKER HIMSELF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That winch is bad ass! Never ran equipment on anything that steep but running a 245 Cat up and down a hill too steep to walk up/down always gets my heart racing. If only they made a way for camera to convey how steep that really is and your on it with a 90klb "saw mill" that cuts 20" diameter trees off in a second! Very cool video and Fk all the keyboard warriors that have/will never do it themselves. They watched it so its all views!
All pays the same! Trying to break up the patches up here cuz back in the day they didn’t have the green up rule so everything was logged in huge clear cuts, now we are limited to 120ac max at a time, if there is repod next to a unit the needs logged, the repod has to be 4yrs old or 4ft tall before we harvest the mature timber next to if that makes sense
What a dream job right there doin your own thing at your own pace that’s awesome.

Some old cat rds here and there! The t winch did have a hard time helping me on 100%+ slope but was spinning on rock too 🤷🏻♂️
like you said there are alot of key board loggers I logged for over 50 years in BC Can been watching you off and on now for a couple of years
The stuff people where saying just blew my mind, if the watch my real video from UA-cam instead off facebook that some guy stole and sped it up and they can’t even hear what I talking about or explaining why I’m doing what I do.
Great job T winch makes it a lot better

I guess the dealer is bringing me out the bigger one to try, that was my only complaint on this 10.3 was I need more pull on nasty ground
Yay you’re back posting again! I got a little worried you left us! lol love your work and your videos!
Been slammed with cutting lol

Camera doesn’t do justice…..
Nice work sir.
Great video, never knew thse things even existed!
How much does the feller (?) weigh with a attachment like the one you have?
The whole machine is about 90k+ lbs
@wantowski987 wow!
Where are you mounting camera? And are you using iPhone or GoPro? Thanks. Ima start posting my footage, I run 870 in southwest Washington.
GoPro, front window by your right foot on the door handle cover
@ cool thanks a lot. Ima get my wife to start editing through and putting some stuff out. We post some on tiktok
Let me know id like to watch some 👌🏻
@@wantowski987 I made a video. Tried to add a comment with you tagged in it but not sure if that worked.
Never seen anything yet!
How do you use se winch and the machine at the same time ?
The TWinch is constant tension on the drum! It works off pressure on the winch from what I’m told 🤷🏻♂️ so it’s always pulling in auto mode and you can adjust how much % you want to pull or hold you back when going down the hill
@ thanks for the explanation
What are the trees you are harvesting used for. Camara doesn't a good size reference .
Going to the local domestic saw mill, lumber for houses
Very cool. Here i thought that hand fallers still had a job on the hills
We still use hand fallers, we can’t tether everything lol
Srry for not watching the 8 days was busy with family stuff and going to church have a nice day god bless
Just curious, how hard are those machines on your body,60lds a week 18days straight, just curious, you put the hours in
Ah the back starts to ache after awhile when tethering really steep stuff lol
Thanks for the T Winch video and info. Nice view and good camera angle too
What state or province is this taking place in? Sorry, im sure u have been asked that a ton of times, but I'm new to ur channel.
Oregon
@wantowski987 Thank You!
Does the cable ever get in your way?
Na! But you do have to remember it’s there lol
Great vid! Curious, why cover your tracks? I'm guessing there is a good reason.
It’s good forest practice, helps with erosion and just looks better not seeing trails up and down the hill after all the brush has melted away
@ oh right the erosion bit makes a lot of sense. I could see the tracks turning into nasty gullies over time.
T winch is badass. From idaho
What does one of those T-Winch cost?
$605k for the bigger one and around 300k for the smaller one
Bigfoot would be terrified seeing this beast of a machine
ECO FOREST---"experts at harvesting toothpickss....we let the forest grow back!....but just barely!!!"
Been looking for someone with this type of machine....know anyone in North Western Virginia that provides this type of clearing? Thanks!
Sorry I do not

@puzzled4163 I cut the easier ones going down then grab the ones I left going back up
Awesome video!
Glad you liked it!
I called him out that video he stole !
@johnmclaughlin318 Awesome

There was an outfit that did make the winch into the car body of the cutter! We replace our lines when we have about 2 thousand hrs on it
Nice operator 😮👏🏻
Why does this look like fun?
You have my respect i have done and been in a lot of shi-tty situations in my life but no way in hell would i crawl my a-ss in that !
Cool machine
But where will the bunnies live?
You loggers are crazy to trust your life on that !!!!!!!!!!!!!! cables and chains . I PRAY FOR YA ALL THEY NEVER FAIL CAUSE ODDS ARE YOUR GOING TO THE MAKER HIMSELF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I call mine the Zamboni
👍👍👍
it looks like my home in the black forest in germany
its a reincarnated Forest robots.
I'm a old ARMY DESERT VET you all should get hazard pay on top of your regular pay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish lol but we are paid pretty good now days for being loggers
Mechanic for 35 years retired mostly dealership .
Now we know why our lumber is garbage. Those are big ring twigs
Yep, no tight rings

WHY ARE YOU COVERING YOUR TRACKS
Those are pretty small trees.

Does nothing but cause erosion.
Not really
@wantowski987 I've seen it around Fernie, bunchers tear up the ground. put hand fallers to work.
Depends on the operator
