Here's the usual hater...
Here is a good trick for the ice parts (especially usefull in the Death Zone): Hold up or down and use slide when you want to stop sliding immediately, you will just slide directly into the wall and it will stop you from sliding left or right completely.
Draptor that’s what I do as well my friend it is a great method especially to stop yourself from sliding so u can hit the ! Box before falling down into the next area accidentally lmfao
If you belly flop it will also stop you completely

When the pillars and logs go to smash the floor, hop in the air and do a belly flop and you’ll clip out of the way of being crushed.
As long as you aren’t dead center underneath.
Did anyone else slowly go crazy doing this level over and over again when you miss that one box and/or fall into the next area after getting the ! box close to the 2nd gem? I think I am. ;/P
For sure, hate the ice in the remaster, so unpredictable. Need to time that last part perfectly to avoid Nitro and avoid falling down. Crash wouldn't be the same without the "n sane" difficulty though
I had to start slowing down long before the ! crate. Then I had to inch back to the start

I hate this level more than anything in all Crash games. I think I prefer the fucking High Road to this
That's a little much. This stage is hard, sure, one of the hardest, if not the hardest stage in Crash 2, but to say you prefer High Road to this? I mean, it's your opinion, but you can get through this stage with 3 Masks easy if you're careful and Blast through the Skull Route.
The High Road/Road to Nowhere want jumping precision, unless you walk on the ropes, of which still need jumping precision, so you don't fall into chasms. Which Aku Aku can't save you from.
I dunno man, I rather deal with some bad ice physics than bottomless pits... Maybe that's just me.
KuroJet You can learn to jump precisely in The High Road by following your shadow but this is just that ice is from the deepest Hell that is frozen lol
KuroJet I never found the high road that hard, all you need is timing and momentum!
the ice physics in this game are pretty fucked up but I don't think anything can hold a TORCH to how utterly broken and shattered the high road is. I started with 82 lives on the first try and finished with 26. I died less in Stormy Ascent (99 to 58).
at least with this shit Aku Aku can really help you out. all he's gonna do on that fucking level is get rid of the hogs for you.

This is the hardest death route in the game, so much nitro and the ice floor...
Lonely - but all you have to do is make it with a gold aku aku and the third one you get up there you can smash all the nitro
The problem here is not the nitro is the fucking ice that makes you fall down into the next area

The only crate I missed was the one on the bonus level 🤦🏻♂️
To me the prior level Diggin It was pain too. Talk about a difficulty mountain in the middle of the game

To get both clear gems in one go, get the gem at the end of the skull path, don't get the checkpoint, die and then redo the skull path without falling off the end

TheNarutobarrage Yep. The main clue is the "empty box" that you see on the death route. You need to reach the end of the death route, hit the ! box, and come back, in order to get that box (and also come back to the death platform to get all the boxes).
I thought you were supposed to do that, and then go back to the right progressing like normal. FML I did that and was wondering why I missed 30 boxes after all the effort.

that means you need to play the level twice.... one for the boxex gem.. and one for the route gem...which is basically rage quitter material

it is possible to do it without if your patience is through the roof, I almost managed it but the backtracking bit got me killed and I couldn't do so well again. So I too ended up cheesing it with the Aku Aku masks.

just a tip. Make sure you have 3 masks in the death route area and then just ram through all the nitros. It will make everything a whole lot easier.

Pro tip: If you make crash use his slide move into the wall the camera is facing it instantly kills all forward sliding momentum. Have fun =)
Oh man, as if this gem wasn't hard enough to get. I was coming away with like 114 boxes after farming 99 lives, but didn't realise you've to go back to the start and hop back on the platform. Cheers for this!

You can get a lot of lifes in bee-having, then enter this s**t stage, get to the checkpoint before the death route, then enter the death route, then keep dying somehwere until the game gives you a golden mask when you appear on the checkpoint before the death route. Then get the invincible mask at the death route like the video. (Enter the death route first. After that you can die as many times you want and the death route don´t disappear).

This particular level is basically Naughty Dogs (original developers) went full on dick mode. VV did better by making that one box more noticeable in the bonus. The ice physic was not done very well here. (Original had more momentum)

wouldn't be so bad if the damn skull route didnt force you to backtrack all the way at the end to beginning for one damn box! Luckily i already grabbed the skull route gem so i don't need to jump back down.
Why is the death route music still playing after you leave the death route?

Bug at 4:25 - The death route music doesn't change back to the normal level music until the level is completed.
Glad it wasn't just me, I noticed it and even dying after getting back to the main level didn't revert the music back to normal.
Perhaps because it was the checkpoint at the Death Route Platform. Even if you managed to get the boxes from the death route, you still need to survive until the next checkpoint (WHICH IS STILL A LONG TIME AWAY)
It definitely feels more fitting.

Oh jeez, this level. I actually did okay once I figured it all out (such as having to backtrack, AND having to use the original death platform), but getting there was pretty rough. And it didn't help that the first time I thought I'd finally nailed it, I'd gotten that TNT glitch or whatever.

If you by mistake hit the baddie and smash the box, so you can't get the '?' box at the top, you can smash it with a well placed "Slide-jump-spin" attack. It's a bit tricky but it can be done.
Just got this gem after a couple of days. Probably the hardest gem in the game to get.

Ooooh so you can go back down with the platform? Well now it makes sense because I was wondering how am I supposed to get the boxes in the normal part of the level if I jump down and it teleports me to the second part of the map....
For that one missing box. It's the hidden box behind the 2 nitro boxes. Letting the nitros blow it up won't count. You have to physically hit the box for the crate count of 155. I let the nitros blow it up and it didn't work, went back and physically broke it and that was it.

You have got to be kidding me, with the no death route I didn’t know you could go back on it, I go through that entire bit, hit the ! Block, go all the way back for that extra life, then went back the same way I originally did and fell down the hole only to now find out you can go back on that block. Well bite me in the alps
Pro tip- jump and lightly tap the direction opposite of where you’re going for instant momentum erasure.

It's almost a MUST that you use 3 aku masks for the death route or you're gonna get fucked by those nitro crates.

I came to this hoping there was a more practical way of beating the level without going invincible thru the death route but I was sadly mistaken. I honestly had more trouble on this death route than Stormy Acsent. I died 50 times on Stormy Ascent but 90 times here just trying to get out of the death route. Even with invincibility I was still falling in holes because of the ice
The point is make sure you have plenty of life (around 40), and reach to the death path without dying. You can try many time as you want if you reach death path. Just keep dying until the game give you 2 aku aku. Get the 3rd aku aku in the death path.Then, clear all nitro and touch the '!' Box at the end of death path. Finally, make your way back to the begining to death path. At the meantime, clear the last box in the death path. Be careful until reaching the next checkpoint~
I actually did it with 8 lives. Still a pain though
The first time I tried this level for this gem I was so frustrated I couldn’t do it. I got the 2nd instead and beat the level with it no problem and came back a different day to start fresh and got this level done on my 2nd attempt. I couldn’t believe it. I guess all that practice paid off. The key here the video doesn’t say is really if you don’t start the level with a mask you must get to the death level without getting hit once (level 2 Aku) and then make it all the way to the 3rd mask so that you can turn invincible. Then you must use that like the video shows to get to the end of the death level (don’t fall off the end) and spin that box. Then you just have to get back out of the death level without dying or you will need to start the entire level over again so that you can get invincible.
Now all I have left to do is piston it away for my 100%!!
My favorite snow stage of Crash 2. And its death route is really challenging.
Did all this, took about an hour, and then get to the end and I've missed one bloody box!
This level can go to the deepest, darkest pits of Hell. Buried in a mountain of salted, lemon juice drenched glass shards.
This level, by playing it just today, took me *over 30 F U C K I N G minutes* just to finish the rest of the stage & get the boxes, if you count the times I lost Aku Aku & had to farm for it, or died before or during the no-death route! Why did ANYONE think this level was OK in the remake, let alone the original!?
Still cant find the 1 box and its not from the bonus lvl.
Seeing the Death Route, I'm convinced they were expecting you to have 2 Akus for either Invincibility or to just help tank the nitro explosions. Cause I literally can't see how you're able to get past them without taking damage.

The no death zone was actual the death of me having to get to the end is bad enough without dying but having to go back again man
Managed to get everything with 2 lives left. Hit the last checkpoint, hit the ! box to destroy all Nitro boxes. Got one more life for collecting 100 fruits. Died. Start again, got to the end of the level, check boxes, there's 5 missing, what? How? Forgot to hit the fucking ! box again. Went back, but died. 1 more life remaining, hit the damn ! box and managed to get through all by jumping like a maniac, don't even know how i didn't miss any jump and fell into oblivion. Never felt so frustrated and tense in my whole life.
Also, fuck the hedgehog and the ice physics in this game.
