This video floored me briefly... I never realized that I didn't know the problem when it came to 'step 1 is admitting you have a problem' I looked at the surface and pointed at the proximal cause of damage x.x
I'm a bit sad this has so few views when it is well said (mostly, as a salesperson I could critique but that's asking a step too far lol.) I may adapt and try to viralize a more sales'd-up version for the good of people to understand better how this can help them outside of substance abuses.

The 12 steps started as a sub cult of The Oxford group (known cult). they prayed on people who were in the midst of their addiction to further the cult and gain members. Today every convicted sex offender is sent by a judge to these meetings. Not a safe environment for women at all.

I disagree with a judge forcing people into anything like this. Never knew about the cult bit but on the plus side even toxic land can eventually grow flowers if you treat it effectively... by which I mean it's possible that with the alterations that've happened to the original 12 steps (it's been tweaked a bit) perhaps it is a place and method that is their cult's one good contribution to the world?
I definitely am glad to know there are a variety of 12 steps out there now... some gender and/or sex specific, some very small groups, some that deal with non-specific substances, etc.
Thank you for the heads up that women might want to have some backup when they go, I would help my mother, sister, lady-friends or wife to be safe if they ever felt something this important needed my assistance (if at all possible that I could ofc.) I also know a lot of women who've been sent to these meeting have alienated everyone who would care about them and are nearly resourceless... We have sex ed and health class in school... but they don't talk about the social side of making sure you have a support system to help you uphold these, or at least they didn't back in the last century when us fossilizing humans attended schools lol.

Absolute rubbish, the problem is realapse. Uncontrollable, unpredictable, cunning, baffling. I know plenty of people who feel irritable, restless and discontented but the are not alcoholics or drug addicts. No effective mental defence against the first drink or drug

The effective mental defence (d.arn e.effective FENCE) begins to be built by digging down to make a place to secure to. This is when you find roots.
In this analogy the roots are various feelings and contributors to that first pick-up... knowing what might trigger you to want it so you can know it's time to guard yourself b/c sometimes guards fall asleep on the job.
Once you learn your personal landscape and what you can use for poles (a harder/higher power than you, step 2) you plant that between you and the temptations... we haven't filled in between the poles so we can't feel safe yet and she says you should expect to feel better until you've begun writing things down in step 4... which I advise easing into... maybe start with physical symptoms like pain and sleep issues before trying to get too serious all at once and making the process any extra difficulty level compared to easy for starters, then you can level up safely. (I know I just went gaming metaphor but I'll forgive myself, lol.)
