Probably the most shocking GA accident I have heard about in a long time. I remember seeing him in-person as TB1 and I remember a documentary on TV about his training to be TB1. He was apparently right-seat with another GA pilot.....actually, a former NE Patriots Tight End. Still shaking my head. :(

Great interview, thanks for replaying ! Snort in 2021 and now Spads…such great Americans gone too soon. What an amazing career Spads had of always giving back…! And he’s so right about Fighter Pilots in the 80’s (I was Willy 85-01 to an F-4 then F-16) a wingman followed the brief and his (didn’t have “hers” back then) only job was to follow the brief and only comm was either “2’s Joker/Bingo”, “Break left or right” or “Lead, Mayday, Mayday you’re on fire”.

I would have loved to have him as a CC throughout my career! Rain thank you for the excellent podcast - never got to meet him at any of the TBird shows but certainly your podcast made it feel like having a conversation with him. May his legacy live on through the USAF, TBirds and GA. RIP Sir.

Yep, it was very sad to hear of Col McSpadden death in a aircraft accident, because the pilot flying tried the Impossible turn at a very low altitude. Why that aircraft engine failed just after takeoff, is something that the NTSB will have to determine.

Why is it that so many of these well known ex fighter pilots die in flying accidents?

Complacency. Nobody thinks it will happen to them. It’s called the impossible turn for a reason…
