  • Reparenting Ourselves with Self-Compassion 🌈
The three components of self-compassion take a particular form when used in the service of tenderly reparenting ourselves.
Kindness manifests as love, gentleness and warmth. Recognition of common humanity provides a sense of connection with others. Mindfulness allows us to be present with our difficulties, rather than ignoring or getting lost in them.
When we hold our pain in loving, connected presence, we begin to heal.
I've created a 5-minute practice called the Tender Self-Compassion Break that can help you embody loving, connected presence as an ideally compassionate parent would.
This practice can be found here self-compassio... under guided practices.

Kristin thank you very much! I want to tell you that you are helping me, 28-years-old Turkish man, whose father was absent and abusive. I have never had a father role model. All i was thinking that i was a failure, not deserve to love and not a man enough... Self-compassin is helping me to be a father of myself. Big loves from Türkiye

Kristin, I'm a 69-year-old woman who always feared that I would only indulge myself more in unhealthy choices if I wasn't attacking myself vociferously (like my parents did)! I found your TED talk right before your channel & I'm finally willing to try what you recommend! I can't thank you enough for generous sharing of this counterintuitive message & for presenting the physiological hormonal responses to scornful self-talk & compassionate self-talk! After this message I finally feel safer to try this than all the years of therapists cajoling me to try it!
I'll pass around the love (your talks) to those I know! Thank you again!🎉

Self-compassion and compassion towards others should go together, don't you think? If you don't demonstrate it towards others you are, whatever you verbalize, not really offering it to yourself either -- not embodying it. Immense self-regard is also not the same as self-compassion. Self-compassion and self-forgetting are related -- not identical but related.
