Traffic engineering is a useless "profession". It involves a maniacal obsession with "solving" delays and small scale traffic problems that always leads to the answer of, more road is needed. Well, half a century of building cities that are car dependent should tell you that the more roads and highways you build, the more congestion you will get, such as in Los Angeles or Toronto. Most traffic engineers do not even consider the value of pedestrians, transit, and cyclists and will tell you that a lively road that has many jobs and activities is flawed because the cars are delayed. Unfortunately, traffic engineers are unable to think outside of the box, and they do not realise that their proposed "solutions" merely postpones the problem until a later time. If you choose this profession I sure hope that you can expose yourself to new ideas, and please ask yourself, are you actually making systems more efficient or are you just repeating the same mistakes of other traffic engineers for the last 50 years?
