As a nurse, I would like to suggest a bottle of 81mg Aspirin in every vehicle. 911 operator will advice you to chew 4 or 5 of them if you call in with heart attack symptoms. Most of the time they work very well! Also, keep a bottle on the headboard of your bed in case of a heart attack when you are asleep. That is when i had my heart attack. Also, keep your phone and car keys by your bedside. However, it is not considered safe to charge your phone overnight while you're sleeping due to the radiation emitted. You can use the car key fob to set off the car alarm in case of a prowler or break-in. It will alert neighbors and/or possibly scare off an intruder. Cheri

The dose of low dose Aspirin for chest pain is 4 tablets of 81mg chewable. You are correct works well and is inexpensive.

Great idea to have some extra in the vehicle. I usually carry my nitra and aspirin 81 with me but it's easy to forget them. I keep nitro and aspirin 81 beside my bed and nitro in the kitchen to. I've never thought of extra aspirin but that will change now. Ty.

You are so right I heard that a couple years ago and I got a question if you don't have 81 mg if you have the standard 325 you could also use that too correct I mean it may taste like crap but if you're having a heart attack and you need to get them in your right away you could you could do that with water or pop or something

@@lisasharinglifestorieswith4182I am one of the weirdos who actually loves the taste of aspirin (and since I now am a heart failure patient, that’s a good thing). My Grandmother Chapman used to keep Aspergum in the medicine cabinet when we were little. I was forever getting into trouble for getting into it and chewing it like regular chewing gum because I loved the taste so much. I can hear Mamaw now… Debbie Lynne, you’re going to ruin your stomach if you don’t stay out of my Aspergum! What I wouldn’t give to be able to hear her yell at me again. 🥰 Just another trip down memory lane for me courtesy of Ozark Family Homestead! ❤🙏

Shawn, I am a paramedic, I keep a medical kit in all cars and I have a small one that can be carried on our motorcycle. One thing you may consider adding is a tube of cake decorating icing. Cake decorating icing is excellent for use in a diabetic to increase their blood glucose levels. Use it as you would a tube of glutocse, as long as the person is alert enough to swollow, don't attempt to give to an unresponsive or several mentality altered peson as they may aspirate the icing into their lungs. To go peanut butter cups are good to have as well.

In Germany and I believe most other countries in Europe you have to have a special "vehicle first aid bag" in your car (which is sold as such and has to contain certain bandages, tape and such) which also has an expiration date so every 5 or so years you have to buy a new one. After 30+ years of driving I have a lot of bandages and gaze at home and a brand new first aid kit in my car 😅

My dad has always had us keep extra winter clothes (boots, snow pants, gloves, hat, and a couple blankets) in our cars for winter here In The Midwest if you break down in below zero temps it could be dire before help would be able to get to you. We have tow band and emergency crews won’t go out if the weather is unsafe. He also gave us all an emergency flashlight with usb chargers, multi tools and a tool to cut your seatbelt in case of emergency for Christmas a few years ago to keep in our car I believe it is also or can be solar powered. I know yall don’t get winter like we do so I wanted to add this for those of us who live in frequent winter storm areas. Also your pioneer hats are nostalgic to me my grandpa and dad both retired from pioneer so seed corn and silage has always buttered our bread.

Congratulations Shawn! You finally got way more Views than comments! 🎉 While watching your video it came to me for hot weather you could have small hand held battery or folded paper fans. Amazon also has fans for around the neck. Also, I've seen Alaskan shows where while doing daily chores they wear a holster w a powerful handgun. In case that mountain lion comes up quick and you don't have time to aim the rifle. I've seen them take down bears. I know nothing about what handguns would work but I'm sure you might know a thing or two about them. Stay safe! 🙏

Great video! I personally have never used a device. But we have them...and I would use it...that bug spray. 😁. I'm a diabetic...a person mentioned that below. You carry meds in your car. Whatever you use. That goes with any condition that requires medicine. If it is in your vehicle be sure to keep prescriptions in the bottles they come in. Proof that it is your medication both for instructions and legal reasons. Just a suggestion for those reading comments. I am glad no big cat got you while filming this video. While you may get millions of views if one had went after you...We all don't want you hurt! 😁. Big Hugs and Love to you and the family. Susan from Michigan

Hi Shawn Here's 4 things I thought of for the Bug out bag or medical bag.popsicle sticks for splints,Hefty has a Jumbo 2lb slider style resealable plastic bag that would be good for dirty clothing or for clean torn up old t-shirts to use as bandages.,also women's hygiene pads would make a great sterile bandage for a large wound..Also nail clippers and tweezers, round toothpicks.By the way I watched all your videos now complete with all the boring, stupid commercials just for you all so it would earn you money from UA-cam to help finish your Summer Kitchen faster!! I love your channel. You help so many people with your vast array of knowledge!! I'm so thankful I met you via UA-cam. It was meant to be.Lyatt Sandee from Ohio.💜💜🙏🤟😊

Some areas we go into have different kinds of predators. So we have to be alert at all times. Right now we are making our way to Big Bend national park, Texas. Southwest Texas. You have to be alert to rattlesnakes and scorpions. Thankfully have not come across any yet, thank you Heavenly God. I really enjoy all of your videos and live chats. I don't leave my bag in any space with big temperatures fluxes so as not to damage perishable items. I pack new snacks and fill my water bottle ech day. And I check the entire bag and contents for expiration and damage/wearing on the first day of the new year. I also bring it with when possible, bad things can happen anywhere. I also pack it for my needs and a bag for each family member for their needs. Just my thoughts. Happy packing everyone one.

Careful with the de-icer cans, mine says not to store it in the car. Here in TN I just need it in the winter as I carry to protect myself. For the medical bag I would add a bottle of Imodium caplets (generic work great too) and add a pack of baby wipes and store a 4 pack or more of toilet paper (Dollar General has the 4 pack for $1). I keep Hot Hands hand warmers and ponchos in the small pockets of the car doors along with a few empty zip lock bags and plastic grocery bags

You should also have an EpiPen in your gold bag if any of your children have allergies to any foods or insects because you may not have time to grab them in the event of emergency and you have to leave the house really fast so you should have an extra set in h vehicle and in your bags because that could be very dangerous I'm allergic to bees and I haven't condition called MCAS which causes me to have anaphylactic reactions to unknown things so I have EpiPens all the time around so that might be something to consider.

For your car and boat emergency bag we also have a bathroom towel because head injury or nosebleed usually bleed profusely. We also always have sea sick/ car sickness medication that can also been used if you’re are feeling nauseous( we also have the small acupressure bracelet against nausea) . Last but not least a little pocket flashlight that you can shake (so no battery ind)that can blink if our car or boat has no power so the emergency personnel can finde us in the dark ( we live in Scandinavia and therefore the winter month are dark nearly all day long).
About the scaring people or animal away, no weapon allowed here not even a peberspray but an emergency / fire horn is very effective against small and big human/ animal 😬.

Great info, Shawn. One thing I thought of to keep in vehicles is a mask for each member. In case of an accident, or running into an accident no one needs to be breathing smoke. I’m am an elderly woman with a compromised respiratory system and smoke, chemicals, etc can cause greater damage. I also agree with those who mentioned super glue. I don’t think I saw alcohol. I live in the UK where we aren’t allowed to carry the type of device you have. Even mace is banned and anything similar would be classed as “going equipped” and can lead to a prison sentence.
You have to think out of the box and maybe carry a small tin of hairspray with a hairbrush, but that’s no use if you’re a balding middle aged man!
I belong to a gun club (my average is 98 on the 10 metre range!) and the rules are very strict - you can no longer come to the club as a day member anymore, the government rules now are that you must join the club as a full member (way over £100) and have a police check, to be able to use their facilities.
My most used items in my everyday carry bag are scissors, knife and sewing kit!
…and making notes with a pen and paper,
    …and mug and spoon!
My friend used to carry dog treats as emergency food supplies - after many years of carrying chocolate/nuts etc but not for long as he would munch on them sooner or later - once he switched to bonios they were very safe!

The book series you speak of is excellent, scary but excellent. A great book for the younger children is Alas Babylon by Pat Frank. It is the story of a nuclear Holocaust with several characters being young children. It was given to me the summer between 4th and 5th grade. We are “preppers” not in a crazy sense but a very realistic sense. It helps tremendously that I am married to an Eagle Scout, he has taught me so much and is a walking encyclopedia of survival. Thank you for your videos on being prepared. No mountain lions here but since the savanna behind us has gone under water. Our eyes are pealed for gators, and yes they can climb a chain link fence.

Great idea using a lunch tote I actually still have my husbands that he took to work every day looks like the one you have. I liked your last video idea too on a fishing vest that a viewer suggested, really great idea. I suggested last week the tins for food storage, glad you mentioned it in this video I was also thinking to keep things more compact for storing in the tote is look at the thrift stores for cheap but tightly sealed travel cups to stack things where you can get it all together like bandages, gauze, etc. instead of them being all spread out and taking up so much room. I'm thinking on these things now to give to my sister, her husband and their 2 adult kids to keep in their vehicles. Thanks for the inspiration. I do have a First Aid Kit I made myself for home.. my nephew was over, former boyscout and he said with surprise " You have a First Aid kit"? lol. I am trying to get them motivated to realize they may have a Emergency and have their supplies all in one place. Anna In Ohio

We and others , usually seniors have to pay for transportation. If electronics go out we are stranded or something else, we aren't guaranteed a returned trip home!
We would only hope for protection to make it home.
As far as saying what one might use or for an unintended purpose can be considered premeditated. I was told by a local officer, if he comes in my yard I could not keep him in my yard.
That's crazy. So, he could enter my yard and I do absolutely nothing! I mentioned on a chat of what a Veteran in another state called them. He said, they come down from the mountain are bear bait!
God is good, people. The sx ofdr died from a disease.
Becareful where you are and whose house has one living there!
Garden tools will be my go to and that's only if I am home.
People will go to your homes and you can't keep them for the police to show up.
Self-defense is slim to none if you resent certain twisted people who are sx ofdrs.

In Alaska, in order for childten to graduate 8th grade, they must spend 3 nights in the wild on their own. There are 2 adults that stay close to them, but the don't kniw where they are and can't talk to them. They are allowed to take a large coffee can filled with whatever they feel they would need... Usually a knife, fishing line and hooks, matches, etc. Would love to see a video on your children doing this although there would be a concern about the mountain lion. So I don't know if that's feasable. However, Alaska has bears, moose, etc. Might be safe enough with an adult nearby. Cheri

(from Shawn) That is interesting. My high school age children know how to carry a means of defense in the woods, which they often do for hunting, so those mountain lions would be smart to stay clear of them!

What about some extra money if you don’t have a car

  • @debrasnipes7431
    @debrasnipes7431 6 місяців тому

This isn’t necessarily for safety, but… as one who has multiple allergies and always has exaggerated reactions to insect bites, I personally have found that using Icy Hot on the bite(s) stops the itching IMMEDIATELY and keeps me from crazed scratching episodes which can turn the bite into an actual wound (been there, done that). This works better, for me, than any OTC bite cream/stick/spray, etc. And the generic brands work just as well and will save you money. I don’t go anywhere without my liquid Benadryl and my Icy Hot. Although not a safety issue, per se, if anyone is prone to the severe itching, swelling, redness and irritation from insect bites like I am, this can definitely be classified as an emergency situation for the sake of your sanity. Especially in the case of multiple bites (like those nasty little black sand fleas at the beach). Sorry if this is too far off-topic. Just trying to help someone who might have the same issue as I. Great video!

And that is so true Sean you were a police officer and we just had a police officer a state police officer get killed about a month or so ago somebody hit him and I don't understand why people it seems like when people are walking on the side of the road police officers are regular people that break down I don't understand why people hate them I don't maybe they lose track of the road in their car but it's very common for that to happen so having a vest like that is a very smart idea cuz a lot of people wouldn't think of that and because you were a police officer you know to do that that's smart
