I’m gay and from an evangelical family. I learned to rip the bandaid off and live my own life and remain true to myself and love my parents and lead by example. Your parents will freak out for awhile but if you stay strong, they will come around and quit talking about it. The best thing to do is be honest with them, with love, and let them come around. Their initial reaction will be hard to deal with but just wait them out… if they love you, they will come around.

My thoughts exactly. They seem to be pushing this on him out of love and he needs to be honest with them that that’s not where he’s at right now. And while it may be an initial shock to his parents, that’s on them to navigate with each other and that’s ok

The Second Caller - The Düsseldorfian Dream - is gorgeous, adorable, has a super-high antenna, and is definitely being open and honest! Very insightful, solid suggestions from N & M, that all of us in perpetual home office with partners who have compulsions/addictions can apply and utilize! Favorite pod, so far!❤️

i dont think that gamer relationship plan is sustainable, i think she should talk to him directly, saying "you need to speak to me respectfully, especially in front of people period. What's going on for you in those public moments? When you talk to me like that i fell. xyz, my request is that you watch that and be mindful of how you speak please." If he cant meet that, she might be ready for another kind of energy.

First caller.. our lives sound identical, down to going to a church even when out of town. I told my parents at 19 I no longer went to church. If your parents truly love you they will come around. It may take a bit but they should come around. I don’t think anyone can give you the answer. You know your parents..you know the best way to go about it. May the force be with you

Because, why hurt the parents. they are clearly going to be mad about it and upset. It will cause a worry for the parents that is not needed. I think they should just say they are trying to find a church they like but have not found one yet or the ones they have been to are just not up to their standard. But to cause the parents to be upset is not necessary

Mail them a nice card with a letter, the old fashioned way. That way the next time you speak to them, they'll already know, and have had time to take it in first.
That's the wimpy way I'd do it.

The first guest doesn't know how his parents feel about gay people because he's never asked and that's why he doesn't know how they'll react. I come from a bit of that background and no one ever talks about anything real. His parents love him but spent 18+ years indoctrinatkng him, so it'll be all about setting and reminding them of boundaries.

he is a full grown adult that can make his own choices . Family can be toxic and you must remember you are under no obligation to have a big relationship with them. Btw.. if church feels like a chore. DONT GO!! Also, it’s hilarious that one family thought they could trick God to letting their grandpa on his deathbed into heaven

If you truly believed your son would go to hell if he didn't believe in what you believed, and you loved him, you would want him to go to church too. Just sayin'. Not that I agree with them.

Paused to talk to Garrett lol. out of hs I went to a Christian school (parents would pay if I went there, transferred after a year) but I will say. That call was like horrors of conversation past. They will eventually give up, stop asking and get the picture. Hope you find a good church family!

Garrot top needs to look into a Unitarian Universalist church. All the community but none of the bullshit. At least that’s my understanding. I have no personal experience. I’m as disinterested in the community aspect as the bullshit myself.

For the 2nd caller, joining your boyfriend in gaming or discord is NOT a great idea. As a gamer who's dating another gamer, it causes more tension because you guys will disagree on things in the virtual world (as the pod has put it) which can cause tension in the real world. And even putting yourself in that situation seems unnecessary if you don't want to even play! This doesn't mean you can't play other games together, but if you play Dota or any games he takes more seriously then it won't bode well.
Personally, I think you feel neglected in these tiny exchanges and that's what hurts and causes doubt. That's happened to me, especially in the saying goodnight when going to sleep. He just seems to have a hard switch between both realms and it'd be better to just let it be, especially if he's great offline :)
