The Electro Voice sounded very good, nice and clear. The Turner Plus Three probably stole the show with more punch, a fuller sound. I recently fired up a MKIII and found the EV to be good, and a D104 about the same. But on sideband they just didn't swing enough and found an SBE desk mic (and other power mics) to work much better. I was surprised by this because I though a high impedance mic would out do these. I am running them with a processor, which is mainly for AGC and switching purposes. And anyone that says these are no good on SSB (you see it all over the forums), that could not be further from the truth. You could barely fault mine, it has excellent audio, and they almost had me convinced.
